London, ON Aluminum Roofing Installation Review: Professional, Eco‑Friendly Charcoal Slate Roof by Interlock

London, ON

Fred F.

We purchased this product from Interlock after admiring other projects they had completed in our neighbourhood. The owners of the other homes highly recommended Interlock Industries, as do we. Our roof has drawn interest from many passerby’s during the installation and since completion. The charcoal slate product we selected is very striking. The Installer who completed the project did an excellent job and was thorough in his cleanup during and at the end of the project. Since the aluminum “shingles” were installed on top of the existing shingles there was no need to dump a whole load of old materials into landfill which was an important consideration in our decision. And since our original roof was in fairly good condition, a layer of strapping was not required before installing the aluminum product.

Positive: Professionalism, Value
Services: Roof installation

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in London

Homeowners researching metal roofing in London often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in London may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years, so metal is a longer-term choice for London homeowners. London, ON has warm summers and cold, snowy winters with regular freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation—conditions that challenge roofing materials and increase wear from snow loads and moisture penetration. Metal systems resist moisture, shed snow, and tolerate freeze–thaw movement better than asphalt, and are less prone to algae/moss when properly detailed. Homeowners choose durable metal for longevity, lower maintenance, and improved performance in snow and wet seasons. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminium and a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in London, ON typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but offer longer service life and lower lifetime repair/replacement costs. London experiences cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal snow loads that can stress underlayment and fasteners—conditions that make metal’s durability and snow-shedding advantages worth considering. Actual installed cost depends on roof size, slope and complexity, tear-off or re-roof, flashing and skylight work, access and labour. Local construction factors (winter scheduling, ice-dam prevention, ventilation requirements) also affect price. Many homeowners compare options on lifetime value rather than initial price because a durable metal system can reduce future repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value rather than competing as a low-cost roofing option.
London’s climate includes regular snow/ice and frequent freeze–thaw cycles plus year‑round precipitation—conditions that stress roofing materials and can drive ice dams and accelerated asphalt wear. Lifespan: asphalt shingles typically last ~15–25 years in London’s climate; metal roofs often last 40+ years with proper installation. Maintenance: shingles need more frequent inspections, moss/ice removal and patching after storms; metal needs less routine upkeep. Durability: metal resists freeze–thaw damage, sheds snow and resists wind/ice better; asphalt is more prone to granule loss, curling and leaks over time. Long‑term value: higher upfront cost for metal often pays off via longer life, lower maintenance and fewer replacements. Homeowners who prioritise long‑term protection and curb appeal often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal because they combine durable, weather‑resistant performance with clean architectural lines and lasting aesthetic value.
This is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs—rain noise is usually comparable to other materials. Insulation, an enclosed attic or underlayment, and the overall roof assembly significantly reduce impact noise. Installation quality and fastening methods also matter: poorly installed systems or exposed purlins can amplify sound. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt or tile roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete residential roofing systems, engineered and fitted to perform like conventional roofs while providing metal’s long‑term durability.
In London, ON, a metal roof can be energy efficient because its surface often reflects sunlight, reducing heat gain in summer. Overall performance depends on the roof assembly — including underlayment, insulation and ventilation — which together control heat transfer and moisture. Local climate also matters: seasonal sun, humid summers and cold winters influence whether reflective coatings or added insulation will pay back. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritise energy efficiency to lower heating and cooling costs, improve year‑round comfort, extend roof life, and increase resale appeal or qualify for rebates. When comparing options, look at whole‑roof performance rather than panel material alone. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance, combining durability with compatibility for high‑performance assemblies.
London, ON roofs must withstand seasonal heavy snow, freezing rain, strong winds and occasional summer hail and convective storms, per local forecasts and advisories. Metal roofing performs well: interlocking steel or aluminium panels resist wind uplift when engineered and fastened correctly, shed snow and ice, and suffer less hail damage when made from thicker gauge or impact‑rated profiles. Actual performance depends on roofing system design (profile, fastening, underlayment), installation quality (details at eaves, ridges and penetrations) and material durability (gauge, coating, impact rating). Homeowners consider weather resilience to protect the home, lower leak risk, reduce repair costs and meet insurer expectations. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance; specified and installed to local code, they offer reliable long‑term performance.
Metal roofing performance varies by metal type: steel, zinc, copper and aluminium each behave differently with regard to corrosion. Some materials — aluminium, zinc and specially treated steels — are much more resistant than untreated steel. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer and resists salt‑air attack. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance to extend roof life, reduce maintenance and repair costs, avoid leaks, preserve curb appeal and resale value. Choosing corrosion‑resistant materials can also help maintain warranty coverage and lower lifecycle costs. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems use aluminium construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection against moisture and atmospheric exposure.
Metal roofing in London, Ontario is generally considered a durable, low‑maintenance choice. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect their roof at least twice a year and after major storms. Remove seasonal debris from the roof and gutters to prevent trapped moisture and abrasion. Check flashings, sealants and roof penetrations such as vents, chimneys and skylights for secure attachment and signs of corrosion or seal failure. Weather events—ice, wind or heavy rain—and fallen branches can cause dents, loose fasteners or displaced panels. Routine, simple upkeep preserves performance and warranty coverage, making metal roofing a long‑lasting, relatively low‑effort option for London homes.
In London, ON, metal roofing can increase home value. Homebuyers in the area often value durable, low‑maintenance roofs because they reduce future repair costs. Premium roofing materials also boost curb appeal and can set a home apart in local listings. A long lifespan—often decades for quality metal—gives buyers confidence in fewer replacements and lower insurance and maintenance concerns. Architectural style matters: the right metal profile should complement the neighbourhood’s character and your home’s design. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, allowing you to match traditional or contemporary styles while delivering lasting performance. This combination can translate to stronger resale value in London’s market.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are solar‑compatible — Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. installs custom solar brackets and the systems are engineered to accept solar mounting solutions. In London, frequent winter freeze–thaw cycles with ice‑damming risk and humid, rainy summers that can encourage moss growth affect roofing performance and mounting details. Panels add weight and penetrations, so using Interlock’s custom brackets and approved attachment methods helps preserve waterproofing and warranty. Roof lifespan matters when adding panels: choose long‑lasting materials and consider future solar plans when replacing your roof to avoid premature rework. Durable metal roofs are often preferred for solar and make future upgrades simpler.
