Kelowna, BC Metal Roofing Review: Why We Chose Interlock Twice for Durable, Worry‑Free Roof Protection

Kelowna, BC

Tyler M.

Interlock is the best roofing available in our opinion and now have had it installed on our second home. Our 1st home had the shingles installed in 2009, and helped sell the home in 2021, as they looked identical to when installed, had no issues and had the transferable 50 year warranty for the second owner. We just got our new house fitted with interlock roofing, as our original (40 year warranty asphalt shingles) were deemed uninsurable (at 23 years old) when trying to get insurance and recently started leaking. Now to the new interlock roof and the customer service. The team is amazing, and professional, they got our roof on, were available to answer any questions, and ensured we were 100%.satisfied before the team left and final payment was made. Decision for the roof was mainly due previous satisfaction, but we also loved knowing we don’t have annual costs/work in the future for things such as moss removal. The roof great for wind, hail and fire rating as well with is a bonus in the Okanagan.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kelowna

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Kelowna often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Kelowna may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

In Kelowna a quality metal roof commonly lasts 40–70+ years, while conventional asphalt shingles typically last much less (15–30 years). Kelowna’s climate—warm, dry, very sunny summers with strong UV exposure and cold, snowy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and snow loads—affects longevity: UV and heat accelerate coating ageing, while freeze–thaw and heavy snow can stress fasteners and roof assemblies, though metal sheds snow and resists rot better than asphalt. Homeowners choose metal for its durability, low maintenance, resistance to moss/decay, and better performance against hail and wind. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminium and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty, offering long-term protection well suited to Kelowna’s sunny summers and snowy winters.
In Kelowna, a metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but exact pricing varies widely. Key factors include roof size, slope and complexity, whether old material must be torn off, flashing and skylight work, and contractor labour rates. Local construction influences — permitting, material availability, seasonal demand and skilled installers in the Okanagan — also affect price. Many homeowners evaluate options by lifetime value rather than initial cost: metal roofs often deliver longer service life, lower maintenance and reduced repair or replacement frequency, which can offset higher installation costs over decades. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on delivering durable systems that minimise long‑term ownership costs and maximise performance, rather than competing solely as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Short answer: often yes — if you prioritise long life and low lifecycle costs. Kelowna has hot, sunny, dry summers with strong UV and cold, snowy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and measurable snowfall, so roofs must resist UV, snow loads and seasonal thawing. Lifespan: metal typically lasts 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs less regular care (periodic inspections/fastener checks); shingles require more frequent repairs, moss/edge lifting and eventual replacement. Durability: metal sheds snow, resists rot and UV degradation better; asphalt can lose granules in freeze–thaw and suffer wind uplift. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal but lower replacement/maintenance costs over decades. Homeowners prioritising durability and long-term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals because it combines long-term performance with clean architectural curb appeal, making it a common choice for Kelowna properties.
Noise from rain on metal roofs is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. A complete roof assembly—solid sheathing, underlayment, insulation, attic cavity and interior finishes—greatly reduces impact noise. Insulation levels, an air gap or attic space, and the overall roof assembly affect how much sound is heard inside. Quality of installation and attachment method also matter: properly installed systems minimise vibration and rattling. When fitted as intended, residential metal roofs typically sound similar to asphalt, tile or shingle roofs during rain. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and installed as complete residential roofing systems designed to meet these performance expectations.
Yes. A metal roof can be energy efficient in Kelowna. Metal roofing reflects sunlight, reducing heat gain in hot summer months, but actual savings depend on the whole roof assembly: insulation levels, underlayment and attic ventilation strongly influence heat transfer. In Kelowna’s hot, dry summers and cold winters, reflective coatings help summer comfort while proper insulation and ventilation prevent heat loss in winter, so climate and installation determine net benefit. Homeowners researching replacement often consider energy efficiency to lower heating and cooling costs, improve comfort, increase resale value and meet sustainability goals. Choosing a metal roof alone isn’t enough — workmanship and system components matter. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Kelowna sees hot, dry summers with occasional thunderstorms and hail, along with seasonal strong winds and winter snow—conditions that can stress roofs. Metal roofing performs well in severe weather when engineered and installed correctly: it resists uplift in high winds, sheds snow and water, and—depending on gauge and finish—offers strong impact resistance to hail. Performance depends on: roofing system design; installation quality; material durability. Homeowners prioritise weather resilience to reduce leak risk, lower repair costs, and protect home value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, making them a resilient choice for Kelowna’s variable climate.
Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal chosen: steel, zinc, copper and aluminium each behave differently in moisture, salts and temperature swings. Some materials are inherently more corrosion‑resistant—aluminium, zinc and coated steels resist rust better than bare steel. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that limits ongoing corrosion. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance to extend roof life, reduce maintenance and avoid staining or leaks that can arise from degraded metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, offering enhanced durability and lower lifetime costs.
Metal roofing in Kelowna, British Columbia is generally low maintenance and highly durable, resisting rot, insect damage and many storm impacts. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: homeowners should inspect their roofs at least twice a year and after major weather events. Check for and remove seasonal debris (needles, leaves, branches), keep gutters clear, inspect flashing and sealants, and examine penetrations such as vents, skylights and chimneys for loose fasteners or gaps. Heavy snow, wind and falling limbs can dent panels or dislodge fasteners; rapid attention to damage prevents leaks and corrosion. With routine checks and prompt minor repairs, metal roofing remains an excellent, long‑lasting, low‑maintenance choice for Kelowna homes.
In Kelowna, BC, a metal roof can increase a home’s resale appeal. Buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofs, and premium roofing materials often enhance curb appeal. The long lifespan of metal roofs—plus strong warranties—can improve buyer confidence and help justify a higher asking price. Architectural style matters in neighbourhoods, so matching roof profile to local character is important. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, letting you choose a look that complements heritage or contemporary homes. While exact value uplift varies by neighbourhood and market conditions, well‑installed metal roofing is widely seen as a quality upgrade by Kelowna buyers.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. Kelowna’s climate—cold, snowy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and strong summer sunshine/UV—makes roof longevity a key factor in solar planning. Long‑lasting roofing materials are preferred because they minimise the chance of removing panels for roof replacement. Interlock systems are solar compatible and designed to support solar mounting solutions. When comparing materials, consider expected roof lifespan now and any future solar plans so you choose a roof that protects your solar investment.
