Oakville, ON Metal Roofing Review: Why I Chose Interlock Aluminum Roof with PVDF Coating and Lifetime Transferable Warranty

Oakville, ON

Rodney M.

I have a new roof installed by Interlock and very pleased with the professionalism and aesthetics. My builder roof lasted 12 years and I needed something more durable. I spent months talking to steel roof installers and the thing that bothered me most, is whether the company will be around long enough to support warranty issues. The coatings were also prone to fading and I was looking for a worry free product. My research led me to select aluminum roofing with PVDF coating for durability and resistance to Color fade. The lifetime transferable warranty and fact that Interlock has been in business for over 40 years led me to contact the company. Interlock staff are courteous and Bruce gave a very fair price with a no pressure quote. My roof has some features that could affect aesthetics and Bruce arranged for special considerations at those locations. The installers were very courteous, and took the time necessary to do a great installation. They respected my views as a home owner and provided regular updates on progress and solutions. The installers cleaned up debris at the end of each day and coordinated with my neighbours to minimize impact from the roofing job. When rain was in the forecast the crew worked tirelessly to complete roofing sections that would be vulnerable to rainfall. Overall I am pleased with everyone’s efforts and now hope the roof will be durable for many years.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Oakville

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Oakville often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Oakville may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Oakville commonly last 40–70+ years; by contrast asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years. Oakville’s climate—cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and more freezing‑rain events, plus lake‑influenced moisture—can increase ice‑dam risk and corrosion stress on roof materials, so metal’s resistance to snow loads, cyclical expansion/contraction and moisture often prolongs service life. Homeowners choose metal for long life, lower maintenance, improved wind/hail performance and better energy efficiency, though proper slope, flashing and ventilation remain critical to reach 40–70+ years. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminium and are backed by a lifetime‑limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in Oakville typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price depends on roof size, slope, complexity, whether a tear‑off is required, flashing and skylight work, and local labour rates. Other local construction factors — permit fees, seasonal demand, site access for deliveries and disposal, and contractor availability in Oakville — can also influence cost. Many homeowners compare roofing options by lifetime value rather than initial price. Metal roofing systems generally last longer, resist storm damage and ice, and can reduce future repair and replacement costs, lowering total ownership expense over decades. Durable systems also often carry extended warranties and higher resale appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on delivering long‑term ownership value and reliable system performance instead of competing as a low‑cost roofing option.
Oakville has cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles that stress roofing materials, and proximity to Lake Ontario brings extra moisture and humidity that can encourage ice dams and biological growth on shingles. Metal vs asphalt in Oakville: – Lifespan: metal typically lasts 40–70 years; asphalt shingles usually 15–25 years. – Maintenance: metal needs little upkeep and sheds snow/ice well; asphalt requires more repair, and can suffer granule loss, moss/algae and freeze–thaw damage. – Durability: metal resists wind, hail and moisture-driven decay better; asphalt is more vulnerable in repeated freeze–thaw and wet, humid seasons. – Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal often pays off via longevity, lower maintenance and better resale value; asphalt is cheaper initially but may need replacement sooner. Homeowners prioritising durability and long-term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals because its interlocking panels offer long-term performance, weather resistance and strong architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. With solid sheathing, underlayment, and typical insulation or an attic cavity, rain noise is greatly reduced; the roof assembly and attic ventilation play large roles. Quality installation — secure fastenings, correct underlayment and flashing — also affects perceived sound. When properly specified and installed, residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt, composite or tile roofing. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, with appropriate underlayment and flashing to minimise noise and improve weather performance.
In Oakville’s warm summers and cold winters, metal roofing can be energy efficient because it reflects sunlight, reducing solar heat gain in summer. Overall energy performance also depends on the full roof assembly: adequate insulation, air sealing and ventilation control heat flow and moisture year‑round. Local climate matters — reflective finishes help cooling in summer while good insulation and ventilation prevent winter heat loss and ice-dam issues. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritise energy efficiency to lower utility bills, improve indoor comfort, meet green building goals, and increase resale value or qualify for incentives. Choosing a metal roof is one piece of a whole‑house strategy; paired with proper insulation and ventilation it can yield meaningful benefits. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
Oakville’s climate brings seasonal high winds, spring and summer thunderstorms with occasional hail, and winter heavy snow and freezing rain — all of which affect roofing performance. Metal roofing performs well in wind, sheds snow and water, and resists impact from hail better than many materials when panels, fastenings and underlayments are engineered for severe weather. Properly engineered metal roofs can reduce repair needs and limit leak risk. Performance depends on: • roofing system design (profile, attachment, underlayment) • installation quality (fastener pattern, flashing, sealing) • material durability (metal gauge, coating, impact rating) Homeowners consider weather resilience to protect structure, reduce insurance and maintenance costs, and extend service life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and high wind resistance, making them a strong choice for Oakville conditions.
Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing depend on the type of metal used. Steel (galvanized or Galvalume) can corrode if coatings fail, while metals like aluminium and stainless steel are naturally more corrosion-resistant. Aluminium performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that limits corrosion. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to ensure long-term durability, reduce maintenance, prevent leaks and protect their investment and home value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are finished with the Alunar Coating System for extra protection against the elements, extending service life and reducing upkeep. This makes them a good choice for Oakville’s climate.
Metal roofing in Oakville, Ontario is generally considered a low‑maintenance, durable option. However, no roof is entirely maintenance‑free: homeowners should perform periodic inspections—after major storms and at least seasonally—to catch issues early. Check for accumulated debris on the roof and in gutters, ensure flashings and seals at ridges, valleys and penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) are intact, and confirm fasteners and coatings are sound. Heavy seasonal leaves, ice, wind or hail can dislodge panels or block drainage, increasing wear. Promptly remove debris, clear gutters, and repair damaged flashings or penetrations to maintain performance and warranty coverage. With routine checks and minor upkeep, metal roofs provide long‑lasting, low‑maintenance protection.
In Oakville, ON, metal roofing can boost home value because buyers often prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs. Premium materials enhance curb appeal and can set a house apart on streets where presentation matters. A long lifespan and proven weather resistance improve buyer confidence and may reduce inspection concerns. Architectural style still matters — roofs that match neighbourhood character and heritage styles preserve resale appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles (slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam) and are available in heavy gauge aluminium and solid copper, letting homeowners choose finishes that suit local architecture while delivering longevity and low upkeep. In Oakville’s market, well‑specified metal roofs can be a selling point for buyers seeking long‑term value.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. In Oakville, freeze–thaw cycles and snowy, windy winters (lake‑influenced humidity) can stress roofs and mounts, so long‑lasting roofing is important for solar installations. Homeowners should factor future solar plans when replacing a roof: durable materials reduce removal/repair costs and improve mounting stability. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and engineered to support solar mounting solutions, making them a sensible choice compared with shorter‑lived roofing when planning rooftop PV in Oakville.
