Ocean Shores, WA Metal Roofing Review: Interlock Black Slate Roof Transforms Home and Withstands Harsh Weather

Ocean Shores, WA

Frank H.

It’s been about 6 weeks since our new roof was completed, and we are thrilled with the result. The whole process from start to finish was seamless and very efficient. As a salesperson myself, I was impressed with the ‘no pressure’ approach to selling us the roof and the information that was provided to us to make an informed decision on the type of roof for our home. We chose the black slate and it looks very smart and has transformed the look of our home considerably. Since the roof was installed, we have had the usual mixed bag of Washington weather – heavy rain, hail, strong winds, and frost. Our roof has been put to the test and passed with flying colors.

Frank observed the installation process and was impressed with the seamless flashing, custom-made on site, and state of the art vent coverings. Our roof looks beautiful and stands out from the others in our neighborhood. We were particularly impressed with the workmanship of Victor and Mark Lomakin, the two men who installed the roof. They were punctual, fast, courteous, respectful, efficient and very professional. Our neighbors also commented on how well they worked. When the roof was complete, they cleared away all debris and even removed the unwanted satellite dish from our roof. It couldn’t have gone better.

We received all the financial documentation in a timely manner and all of the employees we have dealt with have been very knowledgeable and helpful. Our only criticism is that it would be nice to have an online payment facility for overpayments. Currently the only way to do that is to mail a payment to Canada but we don’t have checks so we would have to purchase money orders and mail them as we intend to make over-payments along the way.

We would happily recommend Interlock to anyone looking for a new roof.

Kind regards

Jennifer and Frank Herboldsheimer

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ocean Shores

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Ocean Shores often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Ocean Shores may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Ocean Shores commonly last 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles typically last 15–25 years and are usually replaced sooner. Ocean Shores gets heavy, year‑round rainfall—about 75 in (≈1,915 mm) annually—which accelerates rot and moss on organic roofing and stresses flashings and fasteners if not corrosion‑resistant. The town’s marine climate brings persistent coastal moisture, salt spray and frequent strong winds, so wind uplift and corrosion are key longevity concerns for roofs. Because metal sheds water quickly, resists biological growth, and can be installed to withstand high winds, homeowners often choose metal or other durable systems for longer service life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and include a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in Ocean Shores, WA generally cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but exact pricing varies. Key cost drivers include roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys), number of tear-off layers, flashing and skylight work, and local labor rates. Coastal construction factors—corrosion resistance, wind-load requirements, permitting and access—can also influence material choices and installation costs. Many homeowners compare roofing options by lifetime value rather than initial price: durable metal systems often reduce future repair, maintenance, and replacement expenses, especially in a marine environment. A site-specific estimate from a local installer will give the most accurate cost for your home. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value—durability, warranty support, and reduced life‑cycle costs—rather than competing as a low-cost roofing option.
Ocean Shores’ high rainfall and persistent coastal moisture, plus frequent wind-driven storms, strongly affect roof performance. Lifespan: Metal roofs typically last 40–70 years; asphalt shingles usually 15–30 years. Maintenance: Metal needs occasional inspections, touch-up of coatings, and fastener checks; asphalt requires more frequent repairs, moss/algae cleaning and periodic replacement. Durability: Metal resists wind uplift and sheds heavy rain and salt spray (with proper finishes); asphalt can trap moisture, encourage moss, and degrade faster in humid coastal air. Long-term value: Metal has higher upfront cost but lower life‑cycle costs and stronger protection—often better ROI for homeowners prioritizing durability and low replacement frequency. Asphalt may suit those on tighter short‑term budgets. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals in Ocean Shores because interlocking panels and concealed fasteners reduce leak risk, withstand coastal winds and salt exposure, and deliver lasting architectural curb appeal.
In Ocean Shores, WA, the idea that metal roofs are loud in rain is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs; their underlayment, insulation, and the enclosed attic space greatly dampen noise. The roof assembly—decking, underlayment, insulation, and ceiling—affects how much rain you hear, and quality installation (secure fastening, proper seams, and correct underlayment) matters. When designed and installed properly, residential metal roofing typically produces sound levels similar to asphalt shingles or tile during rain. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems specifically engineered for residential homes, with panels and components that help minimize rain noise.
Yes — a metal roof can be energy-efficient in Ocean Shores, WA. Metal roofing reflects sunlight, which can reduce heat gain on sunnier days. However, overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly, insulation levels, and attic ventilation; a reflective roof with poor insulation or ventilation won’t deliver optimal savings. Local climate matters: Ocean Shores’ cool, maritime conditions and frequent cloud cover mean reflective benefits are smaller than in hot, sunny regions, though reduced heat transfer and improved durability still help year‑round comfort. Homeowners replacing roofs often weigh energy efficiency to lower utility bills, improve indoor comfort, extend roof life, and boost resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Ocean Shores, WA experiences frequent coastal rain, winter storms and strong onshore winds—breezy conditions with sustained westerlies and gusts reported up to about 47 mph, so roofs face wind-driven rain and storm exposure. Metal roofing can perform very well in wind, hail and heavy storms when the system is properly engineered: long panels shed water, interlocking profiles resist uplift, and impact-rated finishes or thicker gauges improve hail resistance. Performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability—choices and workmanship matter. Homeowners prioritize weather resilience to limit leaks, structural damage, maintenance and insurance exposure. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance. Choose coated, corrosion‑resistant materials and a certified installer familiar with coastal conditions; proper fastening, flashing and underlayment are critical to long-term performance.
Corrosion and rust resistance are critical for metal roofing in Ocean Shores, WA’s coastal, wet climate. Metal roofing performance depends on the metal—steel, copper, and aluminum behave differently in salty, humid conditions—and some materials are inherently more corrosion-resistant. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that resists rust and pitting. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance when selecting roofing to extend service life, reduce maintenance, protect structural elements, and avoid premature leaks or staining. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are finished with the Alunar Coating System for extra protection against coastal exposure. This combination helps maintain appearance and resale value in marine climates.
Metal roofing in Ocean Shores, WA, is generally considered a durable, low‑maintenance choice. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect roofs periodically—after storms and seasonally—to catch issues early. Clear debris (leaves, branches, sand), keep gutters free‑flowing, and check flashing and roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for sealant or fastener problems. Coastal weather, salt spray, strong winds, and seasonal debris can accelerate wear or lead to loose fasteners and clogged drainage, so respond promptly to visible damage. With routine inspections and timely minor repairs, metal roofs provide long life and reliable protection in the Ocean Shores climate.
Yes—metal roofing can increase home value in Ocean Shores, WA. Local buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that withstand coastal weather and salt air, so a metal roof can be a selling point. Premium materials and attractive profiles boost curb appeal, while a long, warranty-backed lifespan improves buyer confidence and may justify a higher price. Architectural style matters: metal is most valuable when the profile suits the neighborhood—traditional, craftsman, or coastal homes may prefer slate, cedar-look, or shake profiles, while modern houses favor standing seam. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting homeowners match local style while delivering performance.
Yes—Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels in Ocean Shores when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. Ocean Shores sees heavy year‑round rainfall, high humidity and coastal salt/moisture that promote moss and corrosion, so roof longevity and corrosion‑resistant mounting hardware matter particularly there. When comparing materials, prioritize long‑lasting roofs because solar arrays add weight and are expensive to remove; homeowners should plan for future solar when replacing a roof. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and designed to accept dedicated mounting solutions, making durable metal a smart choice in this coastal climate.
