L Flashing

Home / Glossary

L flashing is a type of metal flashing that is commonly used in roofing and construction to prevent water infiltration and damage. The “L” shape of the flashing provides a protective barrier at the intersection of two building surfaces, such as at the intersection of a roof and a vertical wall or chimney.

L flashing is typically made from a durable and corrosion-resistant metal, such as aluminum or galvanized steel, and is installed by bending the flashing to fit the specific shape and dimensions of the building surface. The flashing is typically fastened in place using screws or nails, and is sealed with a waterproof sealant to prevent water from entering the building.

The primary function of L flashing is to prevent water from infiltrating the building envelope at vulnerable points, such as the intersection of the roof and the walls. By providing a protective barrier, the flashing helps to divert water away from the building and prevent damage to the roofing materials and underlying structure.

L flashing is commonly used in a variety of construction applications, including roofing, siding, and masonry work. Proper installation and maintenance of L flashing is critical to its effectiveness, and it should be installed in accordance with local building codes and manufacturer’s specifications.

Overall, L flashing is an important component of many building systems, and plays a critical role in preventing water infiltration and damage. Its simple design and reliable performance make it a popular choice in roofing and construction applications.
