Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Marion

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Marion often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Marion may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last 50–75+ years; in Marion you can generally expect a metal roof to reach the high end of that range because metal resists rot and UV degradation better than asphalt. Asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years, so they often need replacement sooner. Marion gets roughly 48 inches of rain annually, which stresses roofs via persistent moisture and biological growth, and summers are hot and humid with strong UV exposure — occasional tropical systems can also bring high winds inland—factors that favor durable, wind-resistant materials over asphalt. Homeowners choose metal for longevity, low maintenance, and wind/rain performance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
Metal roofs in Marion typically cost more up front than asphalt shingles, often reflecting higher material and installation costs. Final price depends on roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys, skylights), tear-off and flashing needs, and local labor and access conditions. Marion’s humid subtropical climate—about 48 inches of annual rainfall—and hot, humid summers with heavy late‑summer rains can influence material choice and installation methods, which affects cost. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value (resistance to leaks, corrosion, thermal movement, and long service life) rather than initial price; durable metal systems often lower future repair and replacement expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long-term ownership value and durability rather than competing solely on being the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Short answer: yes—often. Metal roofs typically outlast asphalt shingles in Marion, but the right choice depends on budget and priorities. Lifespan: metal 40–70+ years vs. shingles 15–30 years. Maintenance: metal needs less routine repair; shingles require more frequent replacement/patching after storms. Durability: metal resists rot, algae and wind uplift better—useful given Marion’s high annual rainfall (~48 in) and humid conditions that encourage moisture-related wear. Metal also performs better in severe wind events and tropical-storm exposure common to eastern South Carolina. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal, but lower lifetime costs and better resale value for homeowners prioritizing durability and long-term protection. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal to those buyers by combining robust weather resistance, low maintenance and strong architectural curb appeal for long-term performance.
In Marion, SC, the idea that metal roofs are loud in rain is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like exposed barn panels. Sound level depends on the roof assembly: insulation, attic space, underlayment, and ventilation all absorb and break up noise. Quality installation matters—secure fastening, continuous decking, and proper underlayment reduce sound transmission. When done correctly, residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt or tile roofs during rain. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, combining panels, underlayment, and flashing to minimize noise and perform like other common roofing materials.
Yes — in Marion, SC a metal roof can be energy efficient. Metal roofing reflects more sunlight than dark asphalt, reducing solar heat gain on hot summer days. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly (underlayment, decking), insulation level, and attic ventilation; those components control heat transfer and cooling loads. Marion’s warm, humid climate means reflective coatings and light colors deliver the most cooling benefit, while proper insulation and ventilation prevent moisture issues and reduce HVAC run time. Homeowners replacing roofs often weigh energy efficiency to lower utility bills, improve comfort, and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered to work with appropriate assemblies to support long-term home performance.
Marion, SC experiences hurricanes/tropical storms, strong thunderstorms with damaging winds, occasional tornadoes, hail and heavy rainfall/flooding that stress roofs. Metal roofing can resist high winds, shed heavy rain, and often outperform shingles in hail events when the system is properly specified. Performance depends on roofing system design (profile, gauge, attachment), installation quality (flashing, fasteners, proper sealing), and material durability (coating, metal grade). Even durable metal underperforms if design or installation is poor. Homeowners consider weather resilience to reduce repair costs, insurance exposure, and downtime after storms. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, but real-world performance varies by design, installation, and maintenance. Regular inspections after storms and hiring certified installers improve lifespan and warranty coverage. Ask installers for wind- and impact-rating documentation for Marion-area conditions.
Metal roofing performance depends greatly on the metal used: steel, zinc, copper and aluminum each offer different corrosion behaviors. Some metals develop protective patinas or require coatings to resist rust, while others corrode more quickly in humid or salty conditions. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a stable oxide layer that resists corrosion and does not rust like iron. Homeowners should weigh corrosion resistance when choosing roofing to ensure longevity, lower maintenance, and to protect structural elements and interior finishes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, extending service life and preserving color and finish.
Metal roofing is generally considered low maintenance in Marion, South Carolina, but it is not maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect their roof periodically—after storms, high winds, or seasonally—to spot loose fasteners, damaged flashing, or seal failures. Remove debris that can trap moisture (leaves, branches) and keep gutters clear so water drains properly. Check penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) and all flashings for corrosion, gaps, or movement. Weather events and seasonal debris can accelerate wear or cause localized damage, so prompt attention after storms reduces problems. Overall, metal roofs offer excellent durability, resistance to rot and pests, and lower routine upkeep compared with many other roofing materials when cared for with these simple checks.
In Marion, SC, metal roofing can increase home value because buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair concerns. Premium materials boost curb appeal and help a property stand out in local listings. The long lifespan of metal roofs — and associated warranties — tends to improve buyer confidence, especially in markets prone to storm exposure. Architectural style matters; a metal roof that complements neighborhood character and historic streetscapes will have greater appeal than one that feels out of place. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles — slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam — and are available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, allowing homeowners in Marion to match aesthetic expectations while delivering lasting performance.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing systems can be fitted with solar panels; Interlock offers custom solar brackets (installed by Interlock Metal Roofing – New England) so panels mount securely to their interlocking panels. Marion’s high annual rainfall (~48 in/yr) and humid summers, plus regional hurricane/wind risk, make long-lasting roofing especially important. When comparing materials here, prioritize roof lifespan — durable metals resist humidity, UV and storm wear and better justify the extra cost of solar. If you plan solar, consider installing a long-lived roof now so mounts and panels don’t outlast the roofing system; Interlock systems are solar-compatible and designed to support solar mounting solutions.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

April 15, 2026

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

April 14, 2026

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Burnaby, BC Metal Roofing (Installed 2024)

April 13, 2026

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

April 12, 2026

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

Willowbrook, IL Metal Roof Review — Interlock Roofing (Installed 2016)

April 11, 2026

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
