We love the stylish new look our house got with the Metal Slate Roofing and the longevity Interlock Roof System offers. Although the roof is made of aluminum, the design makes the roof look as if it was traditional slated roof, hard to tell it is even metal. The crew professionally installed the new roof in no time.

It has only been a few months since Installed but we have seen already some of the benefits. During hot days the house seems cooler and the snow slide off during winter. And the lifetime limited non-prorated roof <a class="wpil_keyword_link" title="warranty" href="” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>warranty give us peace of mind.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Merrimack

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Merrimack often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Merrimack may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years depending on quality. Merrimack experiences long, cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers, so roofs face heavy snow loads, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal rain and wind that shorten asphalt life. Merrimack averages high annual snowfall, which increases snow-load and ice-dam risk on roofs and makes snow-shedding and corrosion resistance important for longevity. Because metal sheds snow, resists freeze–thaw damage, and tolerates wind and UV better than asphalt, homeowners often choose durable metal systems to reduce maintenance and replacement frequency. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and include a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection in climates like Merrimack’s.
Metal roofs in Merrimack typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Exact price depends on roof area, slope, complexity (dormers, valleys, skylights), tear‑off, flashing, and local labor rates. Local factors — heavy winter snowfall and frequent freeze–thaw cycles — often require stronger attachment, ice‑and‑water underlayment, higher snow‑load detailing, and better ventilation/insulation, which raise installation costs. Permits, steep pitches, and difficult access add labor and equipment expenses. Many homeowners compare roofing options by lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofs resist snow/ice damage, lower repair frequency, can cut energy costs with reflective coatings, and often carry long warranties. Durable roofing systems therefore reduce future repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long‑term ownership value and performance rather than competing as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Merrimack gets heavy snow in winter (roughly 50–60 inches annually) which increases roof snow loads and ice-dam risk, and receives moderate year‑round precipitation—conditions that drive frequent freeze–thaw cycles and moisture exposure. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70+ years vs asphalt shingles ~15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs occasional seal/fastener checks; asphalt needs more frequent repairs and replacement after granule loss or curling. Durability: metal resists snow shedding, rot and many wind events (can dent from hail); asphalt is more vulnerable to freeze–thaw damage, UV, and ice-dam water intrusion. Long‑term value: metal’s higher upfront cost often pays off with fewer replacements, lower life‑cycle cost, and better long‑term protection in Merrimack’s snowy, wet climate. Homeowners prioritizing durability and long‑term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals here for long service life, superior snow shedding, and architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth: modern residential metal roofs in Merrimack, NH, are not the noisy barn-style roofs many imagine. When installed over solid decking and with proper underlayment, insulation, and an attic cavity, metal roofing sounds very similar to asphalt, tile, or shingle roofs during rain. The roof assembly—underlayment, insulation, ventilation—and installation quality (secure fastening, continuous substrate) significantly influence sound levels. Poor installation or exposed purlins can increase noise, but properly installed systems are typically comparable to other materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete residential roofing systems, engineered to include the decking, underlayment, and detailing needed to minimize noise and perform like other modern roof assemblies.
Yes—metal roofing can be energy efficient in Merrimack, NH. Metal roofs reflect sunlight, reducing heat gain in summer; reflectivity and cool‑roof coatings can lower attic temperatures. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly, insulation levels, and ventilation, which control winter heat loss and moisture/ice‑dam risk. Merrimack’s cold winters and humid summers mean benefits vary by season: reflective metal helps cooling, while proper insulation and ventilation are essential to limit winter heat loss. Homeowners researching roof replacement often consider energy efficiency to reduce utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, prolong roof and HVAC life, and enhance resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
Merrimack, NH faces cold, snowy winters (heavy snow, ice and ice‑dam risk), seasonal strong winds, and summer storms with heavy rain and occasional hail—conditions that stress roofs. Metal roofing can perform very well in these conditions: properly engineered panels shed snow and ice, interlocking profiles resist wind uplift, and thicker coated metals offer good impact resistance to hail. Actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability. Homeowners weigh weather resilience to reduce repair and insurance costs, prevent leaks and interior damage, and protect long‑term home value. Choose standing‑seam or interlocking panels, heavy‑gauge metal, tested fasteners, and appropriate underlayment to maximize performance; poor fastening or thin gauges reduce resistance to wind and hail. Regular inspections and maintenance preserve performance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance.
Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing depend largely on the metal type and protective coatings. Some metals—like steel—can corrode without galvanizing or paint, while aluminum and certain alloys are inherently more corrosion-resistant. Aluminum performs especially well in wet, humid, or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that slows deterioration. Homeowners in Merrimack, NH should prioritize corrosion resistance to extend roof lifespan, reduce maintenance, and avoid leaks or structural damage caused by rust. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are also protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, providing durable, long-term defense against moisture and salt exposure.
Metal roofing in Merrimack, New Hampshire, is widely regarded as a durable, low‑maintenance option for homeowners. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: periodic inspections—after winter, spring storms, or heavy winds—are important. Check for accumulated debris (leaves, branches), clear gutters and downspouts, and inspect flashings, sealants, fasteners, and roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for looseness or corrosion. Promptly remove debris and address damaged flashing to prevent water intrusion and ice dams. Severe weather, fallen limbs, and seasonal buildup can affect appearance and performance. With routine visual checks and occasional minor upkeep, a properly installed metal roof will provide long-lasting protection and low ongoing maintenance for Merrimack homes.
In Merrimack, NH, metal roofing can raise home value by addressing priorities local buyers look for. Buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future upkeep and insurance concerns. Premium roofing materials enhance curb appeal—especially on streets where architectural cohesion matters—and a long lifespan boosts buyer confidence at resale. Neighborhood style matters: a high-end metal roof that complements colonial, cape, or contemporary homes will attract more interest than a mismatched finish. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, enabling you to match style while delivering performance and longevity. In Merrimack’s market, well‑installed metal roofs often command higher offers compared with similar homes with aging asphalt shingles.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing systems are compatible with solar in Merrimack when fitted with Interlock Metal Roofing – New England’s custom solar brackets. Merrimack has cold, snowy winters (about 58 inches of snow annually) and frequent freeze–thaw cycles that increase snow/ice loads on roofs. Because panels add weight and extend roof service expectations, roof lifespan matters: plan solar when replacing a roof and prefer long‑lasting materials. Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and, with properly installed custom brackets, provide a durable platform for panels. Metal roofs also shed snow and resist freeze–thaw damage better than many materials, reducing future rework.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
