Kirkland, WA Aluminum Roof Review — Interlock Metal Roofing, 2024

Kirkland, WA

TL;DR: Kirkland Review Summary

Roofing installation in Kirkland: the homeowner chose to switch to an aluminum roof after a lengthy and somewhat overwhelming selection process. The installation took longer than expected compared to prior asphalt shingle work, but Interlock Metal Roofing used appropriate mounting hardware, replaced damaged boards as needed, and delivered a professional, secure finish that significantly improved curb appeal; the homeowner is very pleased and recommends them while noting the longer timeline.
Phillip P.

Deciding to switch to an aluminum roof was a significant decision for us, and honestly, the selection process was a bit overwhelming. There are so many styles and finishes available, and it took us quite a while to finally make our choice. If you’re considering aluminum, be prepared to invest time in understanding your options. The installation process itself also took longer than we initially anticipated, especially compared to the asphalt shingle replacements we’ve had done in the past. This is something to factor into your timeline if you’re working with specific deadlines. However, despite the longer decision and installation periods, we are extremely pleased with the final result. The aluminum roof looks fantastic and has significantly improved the curb appeal of our home. It truly turned out nice. We were also impressed with the attention to detail shown by Interlock Metal Roofing. They used what appeared to be the correct mounting hardware, ensuring a secure and professional installation. Additionally, they didn’t hesitate to replace any damaged or weakened boards as needed, which gave us peace of mind regarding the roof’s long-term integrity. Overall, while the decision-making and installation processes were more involved than expected, the quality of the finished product and the professionalism of Interlock Metal Roofing made it a worthwhile investment. We would recommend them to others considering an aluminum roof, with the caveat that they should be prepared for a longer timeline.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Kirkland

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Kirkland often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Kirkland may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

In Kirkland, WA, expect a metal roof to commonly last 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingle roofs typically last 15–30 years. Heavy winter and year‑round wet seasons—Kirkland averages roughly 37–41 inches of precipitation—plus mild snow mean roofs face persistent moisture and high humidity that promote moss and organic growth on shaded roofs, which shortens asphalt life but is less harmful to coated metal panels. Homeowners choose durable metal systems for long service life, superior resistance to rot and moss, and better performance under repeated wet/dry cycles. For Kirkland properties with tree cover and frequent rain, upgraded metal (aluminum or coated steel) reduces maintenance and replacement frequency. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and include a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
In Kirkland, WA, a metal roof generally carries a higher upfront cost than asphalt shingles, but pricing varies widely. Final cost depends on roof size, slope and complexity (hips, valleys, multiple planes), whether old roofing must be torn off, quality and amount of flashing, skylights or penetrations, and local labor and permit costs. Puget Sound construction factors — skilled labor availability, local code requirements, and regional weather exposure — can also influence price. Many homeowners evaluate roofing options by lifetime value rather than initial sticker price: metal roofs often last longer, require fewer repairs, and can lower long‑term replacement expense. Durable systems may reduce maintenance, insurance, and future replacement costs over decades. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and performance, positioning its systems as investments in durability and reduced lifecycle costs rather than the lowest up‑front bid.
Short answer: yes—many Kirkland homeowners find metal roofing worth the extra upfront cost if they prioritize durability and long-term protection. Lifespan: Metal typically lasts 40–70+ years vs. 20–30 for asphalt. Maintenance: metal needs occasional seam/fastener checks; asphalt needs more frequent repairs and replacement. Durability: metal resists rot, moss, and standing moisture better; asphalt can trap moisture and grow moss in shaded, humid areas common around Lake Washington. Long‑term value: higher initial cost but lower lifecycle repairs and longer resale appeal. Local weather influence: Kirkland has wet winters, significant annual precipitation, mild freeze days, and shaded, humid microclimates that encourage moss and algae—factors that accelerate asphalt wear and favor low‑maintenance metal roofing. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal to homeowners wanting long-term performance, tight panel interlocks, and architectural curb appeal without frequent re-roofing.
This is a common myth: metal roofs are noisy in rain. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking with proper underlayment and fasteners do not sound like thin barn panels. Sound depends on insulation, attic air space, and the full roof assembly—rigid decking, underlayment, insulation, and ceiling finishes all dampen impact noise. Installation quality and attachment method also matter: well‑installed systems minimize vibration and rattling. When specified and installed correctly, residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for homes, combining flashing, underlayment, and metal profiles to control noise and performance.
Metal roofs can reflect sunlight, lowering heat gain in summer and reducing cooling load in Kirkland’s mild maritime climate. However, overall energy performance depends on the full roof assembly—underlayment, insulation levels and proper ventilation all influence heat flow and seasonal comfort. In cooler months, good insulation and vents reduce heat loss; in warm spells, reflective finishes and attic ventilation help keep temperatures down. Climate variability in Kirkland means benefits vary by orientation, color and roof system details. Homeowners often consider energy efficiency during roof replacement to lower utility bills, improve comfort, meet local codes and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to integrate reflective finishes, durable assemblies and ventilation options to support long-term home performance.
Kirkland, WA’s maritime climate brings heavy seasonal rain, tree-debris and occasional snow/ice, plus winter windstorms and periodic high gusts that can stress roofs and cause ice dams or uplift damage. Metal roofing performs well in severe weather when systems are engineered and installed correctly: standing seams and interlocking profiles resist wind uplift and shed water/snow; thicker, impact-rated metal and underlayment improve hail resistance compared with many shingles. Performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability—poor design or workmanship reduces any roof’s resilience. Homeowners weigh weather resilience to protect structure, reduce leaks and minimize insurance/repair costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered specifically for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance.
Corrosion and rust resistance are key for metal roofing in Kirkland, WA. Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal used—some metals, like stainless steel, zinc and especially aluminum, are inherently more resistant to corrosion than plain steel. Aluminum performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a stable oxide layer that resists rust and requires less maintenance. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance to extend roof life, reduce maintenance and repair costs, preserve curb appeal, and protect the building envelope against leaks and structural damage. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection and durability.
Metal roofing in Kirkland, Washington is generally low maintenance: durable, corrosion-resistant, and long-lasting. However, no roof is completely maintenance-free. Homeowners should inspect their roof seasonally and after storms to catch issues early. Remove debris (leaves, needles, branches), keep gutters clear, and check flashing, sealants, fasteners and roof penetrations (vents, skylights, chimneys) for damage or leaks. Pay attention after heavy rain, wind events, snowfall or falling branches—West Coast seasonal debris and storm-driven material can collect and accelerate wear. Small repairs and resealing when needed extend service life and help preserve manufacturer warranties. With routine inspections and simple upkeep, metal roofing remains a very durable, low-maintenance option well suited to Kirkland’s climate.
In Kirkland, WA, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce long‑term costs and risk, making metal attractive. Premium roofing materials boost curb appeal, and a long lifespan improves buyer confidence at sale time. Architectural style matters—metal suits some neighborhoods better than others, so matching local character helps preserve value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting homeowners choose looks that complement their home and neighborhood. While no roof guarantees a higher sale price, quality metal installations in the right architectural context often enhance marketability and perceived value.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Kirkland are compatible with solar when fitted with Interlock’s custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc.; Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and are solar‑compatible. Given Kirkland’s wet, marine‑influenced climate with high rainfall and coastal moisture that promotes moss growth, choose a roof material with long life and corrosion resistance. Roof lifespan is crucial before adding panels — replacing a roof after panels are installed raises cost and complexity — so plan for solar when replacing your roof. Long‑lasting metal roofing like Interlock is often preferred because it minimizes future work and supports secure solar mounting.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
