Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fayetteville

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Fayetteville often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Fayetteville may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Fayetteville generally last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years depending on quality and maintenance. Fayetteville has a humid subtropical climate—hot, humid summers and mild winters with minimal snow—so heat/UV exposure and high humidity are major long‑term stressors for roofing materials, while heavy rainfall and occasional tropical storms or high winds pose episodic damage risks. Heat and UV accelerate asphalt aging and coating breakdown; humidity and storm-driven moisture increase corrosion risk and help biological growth on shingles, whereas metal resists rot and survives wind and heavy rain better. That durability is why many Fayetteville homeowners choose metal systems. Interlock Metal Roofing uses heavy‑gauge aluminum and carries a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in Fayetteville typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but total cost depends on roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys), tear-off, flashing/skylights, and labor. Local factors such as hot, humid summers and substantial annual rainfall can increase demand for corrosion‑resistant coatings, improved underlayment and ventilation to prevent moisture issues, which affects price and performance. Occasional tropical storms and strong winds in the region also raise requirements for wind‑rated attachments and flashing details, influencing material and labor costs. Many homeowners evaluate metal vs. shingles by lifetime value—metal’s higher durability often reduces future repair and replacement expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and system longevity rather than competing as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Yes — often worth it, depending on priorities. Fayetteville has hot, humid summers and year‑round rainfall (roughly mid‑40s inches annually), with occasional tropical storm/high‑wind impacts; those conditions favor materials that shed water, resist algae/moss in shaded spots, and stand up to wind uplift. Lifespan: metal typically lasts 40–70+ years versus 15–30 for asphalt. Maintenance: metal needs less routine upkeep and resists moss/algae; shingles can lose granules and require more repairs. Durability: metal better resists wind, water intrusion and fire; asphalt can be vulnerable in severe storms. Long‑term value: higher upfront cost for metal but lower life‑cycle cost and fewer replacements. Homeowners who prioritize durability and long‑term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals in Fayetteville for its interlocking panels that shed water, resist uplift, reduce maintenance, and deliver lasting architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth: metal roofs aren’t inherently noisy during rain in Fayetteville, NC. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking and underlayment do not sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on the roof assembly—insulation, attic ventilation and the thickness of decking and underlayment all reduce impact noise. Installation quality and fastening methods also matter; a well-installed system with proper clips, air barriers and insulation will sound similar to asphalt or tile. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically comparable in sound to other roofing materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered and installed as complete residential roofing systems, designed to control noise and meet homebuilding standards.
In Fayetteville, NC, a metal roof can be energy efficient because its reflective surface reduces solar heat gain, lowering attic temperatures and cooling loads during hot, sunny summers. Actual energy performance depends on the whole roof assembly—underlayment, insulation levels, and ventilation—which determine how much heat is blocked or vented. Local climate matters: Fayetteville’s hot, humid summers make reflectivity and ventilation especially beneficial, while winter heating savings are smaller. Homeowners researching roof replacement often consider energy efficiency to cut cooling costs, improve indoor comfort, and boost resale value, alongside durability and maintenance. Choosing a properly detailed metal roof with adequate insulation and ventilation is key to realizing savings. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Fayetteville roofs face hot, humid summers, frequent thunderstorms with heavy rain and occasional hail as part of local climate normals and a notable risk from hurricane- or tornado-strength winds during storm season. Metal roofing performs well in this environment: it sheds water quickly, resists rot and fire, and—when engineered—offers strong wind uplift resistance and good impact performance against hail. Actual performance depends on roofing system design (profile, fasteners, underlayment), installation quality (attachment, flashing, sealing), and material durability (gauge, coatings, impact rating). Homeowners weigh weather resilience to reduce damage, lower maintenance and insurance costs, and protect value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered specifically for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, but benefits require the right product selection and professional installation.
Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing vary by metal type. Steel, copper, aluminum and alloys perform differently: some metals and coatings resist corrosion better than others. Aluminum is highly resistant to rust and performs well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance when selecting roofing materials—poor resistance leads to faster deterioration, leaks, higher maintenance, reduced lifespan, and lower resale value. Choosing a corrosion-resistant roof can reduce long-term repair costs and preserve aesthetics. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are finished with the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, combining the metal’s natural resistance with a durable factory-applied coating to extend service life.
Metal roofing in Fayetteville, North Carolina is generally low maintenance—its durability, corrosion resistance, and long service life make it a strong choice for local homes. No roof is completely maintenance‑free, however: homeowners should inspect their metal roofs at least twice a year and after major storms. Check for and remove debris (leaves, pine straw), keep gutters clear, and inspect flashing, fasteners and penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for damage or looseness. Seasonal storms, heavy winds and hurricane-driven rain can dislodge debris and stress seams, so prompt attention after events reduces risk. With routine checks and occasional cleaning or minor repairs, metal roofs provide a durable, low‑maintenance roofing option for Fayetteville properties.
Yes — in Fayetteville, NC, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future expenses and inspections. Premium materials improve curb appeal, especially on well‑kept streets, and a long lifespan boosts buyer confidence during negotiations. Architectural style matters in neighborhoods: choose a profile that complements local homes to maximize appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles such as slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, giving authentic looks with modern performance. For Fayetteville sellers, a properly chosen and professionally installed metal roof can differentiate a property and significantly help justify a higher asking price.
Yes. Interlock metal roofs are solar‑compatible; Metal Roof NC can install custom solar brackets that secure racking without compromising seams. Fayetteville’s hot, humid summers with frequent heavy rainfall and periodic high winds/tropical‑storm impacts favor durable, long‑life roofs that reduce future re‑roofing under panels. Roof lifespan matters when adding panels—long‑lasting materials are often preferred—and homeowners should plan for future solar when replacing a roof. Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions. Ask Metal Roof NC about project‑specific engineering and warranties.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Corvallis, OR Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock (Installed 2017)

Review: April 24, 2026

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
