Chicago Heights, IL Metal Roofing Review — PVC Membrane & Flashings (2016)

Chicago Heights, IL

TL;DR: Chicago Heights Review Summary

Roofing installation in Chicago Heights: a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation, integrated metal flashings, and badly needed ventilation was installed over the existing roof at the Church of the Nazarene. The homeowner praised sales manager John Mondschean and reported the crew was punctual, kept the site clean and secure, produced straight, clean seams and careful welded skylight fittings, followed strict safety protocols, and completed a well‑managed, professional job; they look forward to the second phase.
Charles N.

Dear Mark,

I would like to provide you some feedback on the first phase of work done on our project at the Church of the Nazarene, in Chicago Heights. Before going into the details of the work perforn1ed, I would like you to know how pleased I was putting together this project with your sale manager, John Mondschean. John’s a pleasure to work with, always prompt, courteous, and clear with feedback and follow-ups. He not only knew his product well but proved to be very helpful in overcoming the various issues of the job. John was able to meet our needs while staying within the budget by offering helpful suggestions and options. I could only hope to have such a knowledgeable, responsible person to work with on future projects.

As for the first phase of work, installing a 50-year PVC membrane roof with insulation over the existing roof, integrating metal flashings and adding badly needed ventilation to the top flat area above our sanctuary.
This job was performed by a group of tradesmen that took pride in their workmanship; not only did they arrive at the job site on time each workday, they never left without ensuring that the work site was clean and secure daily. For me, that was a big plus. I watched the installation and was pleased with the care utilized by the workmen. Roofing seams were straight, smooth and clean. Details cuts and welded fitting were secured around each of the skylights with care. I was pleased with your workers and their workmanship as witnessed on the job site. Mark, most of all, I’m pleased to inform you that my biggest pet peeve was adhered to without fault, Safety. Your workmen used proper fall protections with tie-offs, body harnesses, and safety lanyards. All ladders and guards were properly secured. At the completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned, and all scrap materials were removed from the work site.

Thank you for a job well done. This job was well-managed and professionally carried out. I look forward to the second phase of our project in the fall.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chicago Heights

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Chicago Heights often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Chicago Heights may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically wear out in 15–30 years. Chicago Heights has cold, snowy, windy winters and warm, humid summers, exposing roofs to freeze–thaw cycles, snow loads, and occasional hail and high winds that stress fasteners and coatings. Annual precipitation and measurable snowfall increase roof moisture exposure and ice-dam risk, accelerating wear on lesser materials. Because metal resists rot, sheds snow, and tolerates thermal cycling and wind better than asphalt, homeowners in Chicago Heights often choose durable metal systems to reduce long-term maintenance and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
Metal roofs in Chicago Heights usually cost more up front than asphalt shingles, but total cost varies widely with roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys, skylights), tear-off needs, flashing, and local labor rates. Chicago Heights has freezing, snowy winters and warm, humid summers—conditions that create frequent freeze–thaw cycles and storm events (hail/wind) that stress roofing materials and favor durable metal systems. These local factors can raise installation requirements (ice & water shielding, reinforced flashings) and therefore cost. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value rather than initial price: a higher‑quality metal roof can reduce future repair and replacement expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and durability rather than competing as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Chicago Heights has cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and periodic heavy wind/hail storms—conditions that stress roof materials and flashings. Lifespan: Metal roofs typically last 40–70+ years versus 15–30 years for asphalt shingles. Maintenance: metal needs less routine replacement; inspect fasteners and sealants occasionally. Durability: metal resists snow loads, ice dams, wind uplift and hail better than asphalt, which can crack or lose granules in freeze–thaw and storm events. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal can be offset by longer life, lower replacement frequency, and often higher resale value; asphalt is cheaper initially but may require multiple reroofs over a homeowner’s tenure. Homeowners who prioritize durability and long-term protection in Chicago Heights often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal because they provide integrated panels that resist leak points, improve wind/snow performance, and deliver lasting architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth in Chicago Heights, IL: metal roofs are loud in rain. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like open‑framed barn roofs. Sound depends on the full roof assembly—insulation, attic space (air cavity), underlayment, and sheathing all dampen impact noise. Proper fastening, clips, and a professional installation reduce vibration and rattling; poor installation can cause noise issues. When designed and installed as a complete system, metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt or tile roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems specifically engineered for residential homes, not barns, and include the components needed to control sound.
A metal roof can be energy efficient in Chicago Heights. Metal roofing can reflect sunlight, lowering attic temperatures in hot summers, but overall performance depends on roof assembly, insulation, and ventilation, which control heat flow in both warm summers and cold Illinois winters. Climate affects benefits: high reflectivity delivers larger cooling savings during humid, warm months, while proper insulation and air sealing preserve heat in winter. Homeowners researching roof replacement consider energy efficiency to cut utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, extend the life of the roof and HVAC systems, and increase resale value. Energy-conscious choices may also support sustainability goals and qualify for local programs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Chicago Heights faces severe spring/summer storms with damaging winds, large hail and occasional tornado risk, plus heavy snow and ice in winter—exposing roofs to hail impact, wind uplift and snow/ice loading. Metal roofing can perform very well: properly engineered and fastened systems resist high winds, shed snow and ice, and limit water intrusion; they withstand many hail events but can dent from very large hail. Actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability (gauge, coatings, fasteners). Homeowners weigh weather resilience to reduce structural damage, lower repair and insurance costs, and meet local code. Chicago Heights’ location in northeastern Illinois and proximity to Lake Michigan can add brisk winds and lake‑effect snow that increase roof stress. Regular maintenance and correct attic ventilation further improve metal roof longevity. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance when installed per manufacturer specs.
Metal roofing performance in Chicago Heights depends on the metal used. Steel, copper and aluminum behave differently: some metals and coatings offer greater corrosion resistance. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it naturally forms a protective oxide layer and resists rust. Homeowners should weigh corrosion resistance when selecting roofing materials to extend service life, reduce maintenance and avoid staining or structural damage from long-term exposure to moisture and pollutants. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems use aluminum construction engineered for strong corrosion resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are also protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, improving durability and long-term appearance. This is particularly important in Illinois, where seasonal freeze-thaw cycles and road salt can accelerate corrosion.
Metal roofing in Chicago Heights, Illinois is generally considered low maintenance and highly durable, making it a smart long-term option. However, no roof is completely maintenance-free. Homeowners should perform periodic inspections—after storms and seasonally—to check for debris buildup, clogged gutters, loose or damaged flashing, and issues around penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights). Remove leaves, branches, and salt residue promptly to prevent corrosion and standing water. Heavy weather, ice dams, and seasonal debris from nearby trees can affect fasteners and seams, so address storm damage quickly. With routine checks and minor upkeep, metal roofs deliver extended service life, strong weather resistance, and lower ongoing maintenance compared with many other roofing materials.
In Chicago Heights, IL, metal roofing can boost a home’s resale value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair costs. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, helping a property stand out on local streets. A long lifespan increases buyer confidence, since less immediate investment is required. That said, architectural style matters—roofs should suit the character of a neighborhood and home to maximize perceived value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles to match styles, including slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper. Proper installation and color choice tailored to the neighborhood will further improve marketability significantly.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Chicago Heights can support solar panels. Chicago Heights has freezing, snowy, windy winters and warm, humid summers, so roofs face freeze–thaw cycles and measurable snowfall that influence mounting and flashing choices. Interlock Metal Roofing — Midwest provides custom solar brackets for Interlock profiles; the systems are solar‑compatible and engineered to accept mounting solutions. Roof lifespan matters: choose long‑lasting materials now to avoid removing panels for reroofing. If you’re comparing materials, prefer durable roofs and plan attachment, flashing, and warranties with future solar in mind to handle local snow and wind loads.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
