Interlock Aluminum Roofing Review - Mundare, AB (Installed 2018, 50-Year Warranty)

Mundare, AB

TL;DR: Mundare Review Summary

Roofing installation in Mundare: the homeowner replaced failing asphalt shingles—blowing off and breaking after eight years—after the original supplier refused to honor their advertised “25 Year” shingles. They chose Interlock roofing; the company was customer‑orientated, with the local salesman and vice president involved, a week‑long installation, and daily crew reviews to address concerns. The finished roof is visually pleasing, drew positive comments from neighbors, has withstood 88 KPH wind gusts, is backed by a 50‑year guarantee, and the homeowner recommends the system.
Pat R.

This system of roofing is far superior to any type of asphalt shingles. After just 8 years my existing asphalt were blowing off and breaking in the wind. The company who supplied these “25 Year” asphalt shingles refused to stand behind their product leaving Us with a full replacement on my dime. So much for customer and support from those people. Interlock roofing was selected and the experience was very customer orientated. Not only did the local salesman come to do the estimate and job scope but the Vice president was with the salesman to see what his product could do for me. The order was placed and the job progressed to finish with little hassles and no real problems. Due to the complexity of this system the installation lasted a week from start to finish. The installation crew would have me review their work daily and address any concerns I had with members of Interlock’s installation team at the house or the way the installation was going. The final product is very pleasing to look at and all of my neighbors have commented on the “NEW” look to our home. There are some high winds in this area and the way this product is designed and installed there have been no problems in 88 KPH wind gusts which we have had since the installation. During a similar wind storm I was picking 8 year old asphalt shingles up off of my property as they were blowing off. I would recommend this system to everyone and the added cost is well worth it since they are guaranteed for 50 years.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mundare

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Mundare often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Mundare may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

A metal roof in Mundare commonly lasts 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last much less (15–25 years) and are more vulnerable to repeated freeze–thaw damage. Mundare experiences significant winter snowfall (about 539 mm total snow) and regular freeze–thaw cycles that increase roof stress and ice-dam risk, so durable materials matter most. Summers are mild, but Alberta’s prairie storms can include hail and strong winds that accelerate shingle wear and loosen fasteners, making metal a better long-term choice for local conditions. Homeowners often choose metal for its longevity, resistance to snow loads, and lower maintenance versus asphalt. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
In Mundare, AB a metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but the final price varies widely. Key cost drivers include roof area, slope and complexity (hips, valleys, multiple dormers), tear-off versus overlay, flashing and skylight work, and regional labour and permit rates. Local construction factors — seasonal labour availability, supply-chain delays and Alberta building codes — can also influence price. Many homeowners evaluate metal roofing by lifetime value rather than initial cost, considering longer service life, lower maintenance, and better resistance to Alberta weather. Durable systems can reduce future repair and replacement expenses, offsetting higher installation costs over decades. Interlock Metal Roofing prioritizes long-term ownership value and system durability rather than competing as a low-cost option, aiming to provide lasting performance that can save money over the roof’s lifetime.
Metal roofing costs more up front but typically lasts 40–70 years versus 15–25 years for asphalt shingles, so lifespan favours metal. Maintenance is lower for metal (periodic inspections, re-fastening or paint touch-ups) while shingles need more frequent patching, granule replacement and eventual full replacement. Durability: metal better resists heavy snow loads, freeze–thaw cycling and prairie wind/hail, whereas asphalt can lift, lose granules and suffer accelerated ageing in those conditions. Long-term value: metal’s higher initial price is often offset by fewer replacements and lower life‑cycle costs for homeowners planning to stay long term. Mundare faces notable snowfall and freeze–thaw cycles and can get strong winds/hail—these local stresses push the decision toward more durable materials. Homeowners prioritising durability and long‑term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals because it combines lasting performance with architectural curb appeal and low lifecycle maintenance.
This is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. Factors — insulation, attic space, underlayment and the overall roof assembly — greatly reduce rain noise. Installation quality matters: secure fastening, proper flashings and continuous underlayment prevent vibration and gaps that can amplify sound. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to other roofing materials such as shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, incorporating decking, underlayment and fastening details to minimise noise and improve durability. In Mundare, AB, local weather and building details influence perceived noise; a well‑designed system performs like shingle roofs.
Metal roofing can reflect sunlight, reducing heat gain during Mundare’s warm summers, but actual savings depend on roof colour, finish and reflectivity. Equally important are the roof assembly, insulation and ventilation — a reflective metal roof over a poorly insulated, unvented attic won’t deliver optimal energy performance. Mundare’s Alberta climate (cold winters, warm summers) means reflective roofing may cut cooling costs yet offer limited winter heating gains; insulation and airtightness determine net effect. Homeowners consider energy efficiency when replacing roofs to lower utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, extend roof and HVAC life, reduce environmental impact and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Mundare sees strong prairie winds, seasonal thunderstorms with hail, and heavy snow/ice and freeze–thaw cycles typical of central Alberta, all of which stress roofs.Environment and local forecasts note gusty winds and variable severe weather in the area. Metal roofing performs well in wind, sheds snow and resists water infiltration; hail resistance and denting depend on thickness and profile. Performance hinges on three factors: • roofing system design • installation quality • material durability Homeowners weigh weather resilience to protect structure, limit repairs, lower insurance and extend roof life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, improved hail protection and wind resistance, but final performance still depends on proper product selection and professional installation.
Metal roofing performance depends on the metal chosen—steel, copper, zinc and aluminium each have different corrosion behaviours. Some materials are naturally more resistant to corrosion: aluminium and zinc form protective surfaces, while untreated steel will rust unless coated. Aluminium performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a stable oxide layer that limits ongoing corrosion. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance when selecting roofing materials because it directly affects roof lifespan, maintenance costs, appearance, leak risk and warranty coverage in local conditions like snow, rain or road salt. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
Metal roofing is generally considered low maintenance and very durable for Mundare, Alberta’s seasonal climate. However, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should perform periodic inspections—after major storms and at least seasonally—to spot loose panels, fasteners or sealant issues. Check for accumulated debris, clear gutters, inspect flashing around chimneys, vents and skylights, and examine roof penetrations for corrosion or gaps. Wind, snow, freeze–thaw cycles and occasional hail can damage coatings or dislodge components, and fallen branches or leaves can trap moisture. With reasonable inspections and prompt minor repairs, metal roofs offer long life and low ongoing upkeep compared with many roofing types.
Yes — in Mundare, AB, metal roofing can increase home value. Buyers often prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future upkeep and insurance concerns. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, making homes stand out in established neighbourhoods. A long lifespan and strong warranty foster buyer confidence, especially where severe weather is a factor. Architectural style matters: matching roof profile to surrounding homes preserves neighbourhood character and resale appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, allowing you to choose a look that complements your home while delivering longevity and low maintenance.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems can accept solar panels in Mundare when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. Mundare’s roofs face heavy winter snow and repeated freeze–thaw cycles that stress attachments and flashing, so choose a durable roof with a long service life to avoid removing panels for reroofing (Mundare climate: heavy snowfall averages and seasonal freeze–thaw). When comparing materials, prefer long‑lasting metal systems like Interlock because they’re designed to support solar mounting solutions; plan future solar when replacing a roof so brackets and penetrations are compatible and warranty risks are minimised. Metal’s low maintenance, hail resistance and long warranty make Interlock a strong choice for solar in Alberta’s storm‑prone summers.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
