Aluminum Shingle Roof Review — Minden Hills, ON | Storm & Wind Repair (2016)

Minden Hills, ON

TL;DR: Minden Hills Review Summary

Roofing installation in Minden Hills: roof repair for storm and wind damage. After an extremely violent May storm that caused extensive property damage but little to the 2009 roof, Brad Cook inspected the roof, replaced five lifted peak caps and added ice guards to the cottage roof 1.5 hours north; the homeowner noted he was courteous and patient despite a 45-minute delay and thanked him for excellent work.
Peter B.

During the extremely violent storm this past May, I had very little damage to my roof (2009) although extensive damage to my property.
A gentleman, BRAD COOK came and inspected the roof and replaced 5 caps that lifted on the peak.
He also added ice guards at my request to my cottage roof which is 1.5 hours north of my home.
Not only was Mr Cook courteous, he was patient as I was delayed when I missed our scheduled appointment by 3/4 of an hour.

Thank you for your excellent work and looking after my issues.
Peter

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Minden Hills

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Minden Hills often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Minden Hills may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

A metal roof in Minden Hills commonly lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles generally have a much shorter service life (often 15–30 years). Minden Hills sees about 1,080–1,100 mm of annual precipitation and regular winter snowfall, so heavy snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles are the two local factors that most affect roof longevity. Metal roofs shed snow, resist moisture-related rot and moss better than asphalt, and withstand repeated freeze–thaw and wet summers, which is why homeowners here often choose more durable systems despite higher upfront cost. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminium and include a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofing in Minden Hills typically carries a higher upfront cost than asphalt shingles, but exact pricing varies. Major factors include roof size, slope and complexity (valleys, dormers), tear‑off and disposal, flashing and skylight work, and local labour and delivery. Local construction factors—seasonal access, municipal permits, contractor availability and Ontario material pricing—can also influence cost. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofs often last decades with lower maintenance and fewer repairs, which can reduce long‑term replacement costs. Durable metal systems can therefore cut future repair bills and improve resale appeal. Expect higher quotes for steep or remote roofs or where structural repairs are needed. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long‑term ownership value—prioritizing durable systems, workmanship and warranties—rather than positioning itself as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Short answer: metal is often worth it for homeowners who prioritise durability and long‑term protection, though asphalt shingles remain cheaper up front. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70+ years vs asphalt shingles about 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs less routine upkeep; shingles need more frequent inspection, patching and eventual replacement. Durability: metal better resists heavy snow, ice and freeze–thaw damage common in Minden Hills winters; shingles can suffer curling, granule loss and ice-dam problems with repeated freezes. Long‑term value: higher initial cost for metal usually pays off through longer service life and lower lifecycle maintenance. Local weather note: Minden Hills has significant winter snowfall and freeze–thaw cycles and moist summers that encourage moss—conditions that make low‑maintenance, resilient roofing attractive. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals for long‑term performance, reduced maintenance and strong architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth in Minden Hills, ON: metal roofs are noisy when it rains. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. The perceived sound depends on insulation, attic space and the entire roof assembly — underlayments, insulation and ventilation all reduce impact noise. Quality of installation matters: fasteners, clips, and secure fastening to decking prevent rattling. When designed and installed as a residential system, metal roofing is typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems engineered for homes, with components chosen to minimise noise and meet residential performance expectations.
Metal roofing can be energy efficient in Minden Hills. Metal panels reflect sunlight and reduce heat gain in summer, lowering cooling demand. However, actual performance depends on the full roof assembly—underlayments, insulation levels and ventilation—to control heat flow and moisture. The local climate (cold winters, warm summers) influences benefits: reflective coatings help in summer while adequate insulation and air sealing matter most in winter. Homeowners researching replacement often consider energy efficiency to reduce utility costs, improve year‑round comfort, prevent moisture issues and increase resale value. Choosing a well‑designed metal system with proper insulation and ventilation delivers the best results. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered to support long‑term home performance, durability and energy‑conscious outcomes.
Residents of Minden Hills face seasonal snow and ice, strong wind gusts and occasional severe thunderstorms that bring heavy rain and hail—Environment Canada notes gusts to about 50 km/h in local forecasts, and the municipality issues significant weather event notices for ice and storm impacts. Severe storms producing nickel-sized hail and damaging winds have been reported in nearby Haliburton/Minden areas. Metal roofing performs well in wind (standing seams resist uplift), sheds hail and rain better than many materials, and resists ice and snow loads when designed and installed correctly. Performance depends on system design, installation quality and material durability. Homeowners prioritise weather resilience to protect structure, reduce repairs and lower insurance risk. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and high wind resistance.
Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing in Minden Hills, ON: Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal chosen—steel, galvanized steel, galvalume, zinc, copper and aluminium each behave differently. Some materials (stainless steel, zinc, aluminium and properly coated steels) are far more resistant to corrosion than bare carbon steel. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer and does not rust like iron‑based metals. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to ensure longer service life, fewer leaks and lower maintenance, plus better warranty outcomes and higher resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
In Minden Hills, Ontario, metal roofing is generally considered a low-maintenance, durable option well suited to local seasonal conditions. However, no roof is completely maintenance-free: homeowners should inspect roofs periodically—ideally annually and after major storms—to spot loose fasteners, damaged panels, or worn sealant. Keep valleys, eaves and gutters clear of leaves, needles and branches; check flashing, roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) and fasteners for corrosion or gaps. Seasonal debris, heavy snow loads, wind events or ice can affect performance and lead to leaks if left unchecked. With routine visual checks and timely minor repairs, metal roofs provide long life and reliable protection with lower upkeep than many other roofing materials.
In Minden Hills, ON, metal roofing can increase a home’s value because buyers prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair worries. Premium roofing materials also boost curb appeal, helping homes stand out in local listings. A long lifespan and strong warranties improve buyer confidence, especially in cottage and rural neighbourhoods where weather resilience matters. Architectural style still matters — choose a profile that suits nearby homes and the character of the streetscape. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles to match local styles, including slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam, available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, providing both aesthetic flexibility and lasting performance.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems can support solar panels in Minden Hills, ON, using custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. Because Minden Hills experiences substantial winter snowfall and freeze–thaw cycles, and humid summers that can encourage moss growth, it’s wise to choose durable roofing that reduces maintenance and withstands thermal cycling. Roof lifespan matters: installing solar on a roof near end‑of‑life often means removing panels to reroof. When comparing materials, prefer long‑lasting systems (metal) so panels remain mounted longer. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and engineered to accept solar mounting solutions with bespoke brackets, making them a strong choice for homeowners planning future solar.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

I love my Interlock roof. It was installed about 7 years ago. Recently had indication that a little roof leak was occurring and I called Interlock up. Customer service was excellent and they promptly got a technician out to see what the issue was. Ivan was efficient and knowledgeable and identified the issue and fixed it quickly. He checked over the entire roof to make sure there were no other issues. I’m very happy with the product and the service.
