Adherence to schedule; communicating effectively with customer; doing the job in environmental conditions that were conducive to high quality workmanship - working at night with tiny head mounted lamps leads to sloppy work, errors and omissions. With complex multi-level structures such as this I would not have attempted the job at this time of year, in the dark, and without the aid of man lifts and proper area lighting. While I am left to deal with an unsatisfactory roofing job, given the conditions it is also extremely fortunate that no one was injured during the job. As a final note, with snow and ice covering the roof I will be requesting that a company rep come out and inspect the finished product once conditions allow a thorough inspection. e.g. late spring/early summer An email is being sent to the company regarding the issues in workmanship and damages observed.

Communication

“Job booked in summer for early fall installation but when that did not happen and no one had contacted us we started making inquiries. Despite numerous requests for updates no one from company would respond to messages left with receptionist to speak to a representative. Material delivery driver provided one day notice of arrival. Material sat for many weeks with no further contact. Attempts to have the assigned installer contact us were not successful. Apparently the installer told company management that he had contacted us, which was untrue. A different installation crew was assigned and in spite of a significant language barrier was able to effectively coordinate the job with us. The salesman was excellent throughout the ordeal, presenting aforementioned issues to management and even making a follow up call to us when he was out of country on holidays.”

Quality Of Workmanship

☆☆☆☆ Strongly disagree
“Due to delay between booking and installation the job was completed in cold, snowy, icy winter conditions, with the majority of the work done in total darkness. This could help to explain the shoddy workmanship and damage to my house in some areas. Specifically: Misaligned tiles and wavy ridge vents; damage to cedar siding and excessive removal of siding resulting from attempt to tuck flashing under it; incomplete/jagged trimming of the new flashing; visible damage to the pre-existing sky light window hardware/flashing as a result of installer hammering it back down after he bent it up (instead of removing it properly) to install his flashing material; the roof with sky light windows is totally unacceptable due to the "troughing" effect made by either crushing tiles while walking on them or, as was offered as an explanation, the buildup of multiple layers of flashing installed; a number of areas, including two holes covered after roof vents were removed, have clearly visible and unsightly dips (low spots) due to shoddy workmanship or wrong materials used. Lastly, only 85 snow guards were installed when we contracted and paid for for 113, as recommended by the salesman. Because the installation crew used ladders without stand-off legs damage was done to the eavestrough in a number of areas. Other issues or deficiencies may exist but snow and ice cover preclude a proper inspection at this time. An inspection must be carried out in the spring/summer to fully assess the problem areas.”

Clean & Safe

“Despite efforts to maintain a clean site shingle debris, nails, screws and small sharp metal shards are strewn around the house and in the driveway where materials were kept.”
