Chapel Hill, NC Metal Roofing Review - Lifetime-Guaranteed High-End Install (2022)

Chapel Hill, NC

TL;DR: Chapel Hill Review Summary

Roofing installation in Chapel Hill: the homeowner chose a high-end, long-lasting roof to avoid future re-roofing as they age. Salesperson Mr. Brougham was knowledgeable and non‑pressuring, installation was completed seamlessly as described, a minor follow-up issue was remedied the next day, and the job includes a transferable lifetime guarantee—homeowner is completely satisfied and wholeheartedly recommends the company.
Mr. S.

Our experience with this company was exceptionally good. Their sales person, Mr. Brougham was extremely well versed in all of the products he displayed for us, demonstrating the pros and cons of each of them. He did NOT pressure us at all and allowed us to select the roof we wanted. There was a call back for a minor problem which they came out the next day and addressed and remedied the problem immediately.

The installation of the new roof was accomplished seamlessly and exactly as they described. We chose a very high-end roof as we are getting older and do not want to ever need to re-roof our home again. They provided this for us with a no-nonsense lifetime guarantee which is also transferable (goes with the home – not that we would ever leave it!) we are completely satisfied!

We would wholeheartedly recommend both the company and Mr. Brougham. Excellent experience top to bottom, beginning to end!

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chapel Hill

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Chapel Hill often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Chapel Hill may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Chapel Hill commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years. Chapel Hill has a humid subtropical climate with roughly 46–49 inches of annual precipitation and hot, humid summers—conditions that mean frequent rain, high humidity (which can promote organic growth on shaded roofs), and strong summer heat that drives thermal cycling and UV exposure, all of which shorten lesser roofing systems’ lifespans. Snow loads are light but occasional freeze–thaw events and summer storm winds should be considered. Homeowners often choose durable metal systems for corrosion resistance, wind and storm performance, and low maintenance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and carry a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in Chapel Hill typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price depends on roof size, slope, complexity (hips, valleys, dormers), tear-off, flashing, skylights and local labor/permit rates. Local factors that affect choice and cost: Chapel Hill averages roughly 48 inches of rain annually and has warm, humid summers that encourage algae/moss and can accelerate corrosion without coated finishes; homeowners often choose coated or standing‑seam systems to resist this, which raises initial cost. Occasional strong wind and tropical‑storm remnants also favor wind‑rated fastening and flashings. Durable metal systems cost more up front but generally reduce future repair and replacement expenses. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and system durability rather than competing as a low‑cost roofing option.
In Chapel Hill’s humid, rainy climate—warm, humid summers and frequent precipitation—roofing choice matters; heavy rain and humidity encourage algae/moss and roof wear, and the area also sees strong storms and occasional freeze–thaw events that stress materials. Lifespan: Asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years; quality metal roofs last 40–70+ years. Maintenance: Asphalt needs periodic shingle replacement, moss/algae cleaning, and attention after storms. Metal needs less routine care—inspections, sealant checks, occasional debris removal. Durability: Metal resists wind, rot, and freeze–thaw cracking better; some metals require protective coatings to prevent corrosion in humid conditions. Asphalt is more prone to granule loss, moss growth, and storm damage. Long-term value: Higher upfront cost for metal but lower replacement/maintenance costs and longer service life often yield better value for owners prioritizing durability and protection. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals because interlocking panels shed water, limit leaks, offer architectural curb appeal, and deliver long-term performance.
Is a metal roof noisy when it rains in Chapel Hill, NC? That’s a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on the roof assembly: underlayment, insulation, attic space and ventilation all absorb and reduce rain noise. Quality installation—secure fastenings, proper flashings and continuous decking—also matters. When built as a complete system, metal roofing typically produces sound levels similar to asphalt shingles or tile rather than louder, hollow-sheet noise. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed specifically for residential homes, with components chosen to control weather and acoustics.
Yes — in Chapel Hill a metal roof can be energy efficient. Metal roofing reflects sunlight, reducing heat gain on hot, humid summer days, and can lower attic temperatures when combined with reflective coatings. However, overall energy performance depends on the full roof assembly: underlayment, insulation levels, and attic ventilation all influence heat transfer. Local climate matters — Chapel Hill’s warm summers offer more savings from reflective roofs than mild winters. Homeowners replacing roofs often consider energy efficiency to lower cooling bills, improve indoor comfort, reduce HVAC strain, extend roof life, and increase resale value. Proper installation and ventilation are essential. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance by integrating durable panels with attention to assembly and ventilation.
Chapel Hill, NC faces severe thunderstorms with high winds, heavy rain, hail, occasional tornadoes, and periodic impacts from tropical storms or hurricane remnants. Metal roofing performs well in wind (interlocking panels resist uplift), sheds heavy rain, and—depending on gauge and profile—offers strong hail resistance; very large hail can dent panels but properly designed systems typically remain watertight. Performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability—clip spacing, fasteners, underlayment, and panel gauge all matter. Homeowners consider weather resilience to protect structure, prevent leaks, lower long‑term repairs, and maintain insurance eligibility. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, but final performance depends on product selection and correct installation. Check product ratings (UL, ASTM) and local code compliance for final selection.
Corrosion and rust resistance are key for metal roofing in Chapel Hill’s humid climate. Metal roofing performance depends on the base metal—steel, zinc, copper and aluminum age and corrode differently—so some materials are naturally more corrosion resistant. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a stable oxide layer that inhibits rust and requires less maintenance. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance to extend roof life, avoid staining and leakage from fastener or panel failure, reduce maintenance costs, and protect home value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, adding durable barrier protection against moisture and environmental pollutants.
Metal roofing in Chapel Hill, North Carolina is generally a durable, low‑maintenance choice. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect their metal roof periodically—seasonally and after major weather events—and check for accumulated debris, clogged gutters, loose or damaged flashing, and seal conditions around penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights). Remove leaves, pine needles, and branches that can trap moisture or scratch coatings. Inspect fasteners and seam integrity after high winds, hail, or fallen limbs. With routine visual checks and prompt attention to problems, metal roofs perform well in Chapel Hill’s variable weather and offer a long‑lasting, low‑maintenance roofing option.
In Chapel Hill, NC, metal roofing can increase a home’s resale appeal and value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair costs, and premium materials boost curb appeal in established neighborhoods. A long lifespan — often decades for quality metal — gives buyers confidence in fewer near‑term expenses. Architectural style matters: a modern standing seam looks different than a slate or tile profile, and matching local neighborhood character can affect perceived value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—and are available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting you choose a look that complements Chapel Hill’s varied streetscapes while delivering durability and longevity.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Chapel Hill are solar‑compatible when custom solar brackets are installed by Metal Roof NC. Chapel Hill’s humid, rainy climate (about 46–47 inches annual precipitation) and hot, sunny summers with occasional freeze–thaw cycles make roof longevity and corrosion resistance important for PV longevity. Homeowners should consider future solar plans when replacing a roof because panels often outlast common roofing; long‑lasting materials like Interlock metal are often preferred. Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and, with properly installed custom brackets, provide a durable platform for rooftop solar in Chapel Hill. Ask Metal Roof NC about wind‑rated attachments to handle occasional storm winds.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Corvallis, OR Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock (Installed 2017)

Review: April 24, 2026

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!

I love my Interlock roof. It was installed about 7 years ago. Recently had indication that a little roof leak was occurring and I called Interlock up. Customer service was excellent and they promptly got a technician out to see what the issue was. Ivan was efficient and knowledgeable and identified the issue and fixed it quickly.
