To Potential Interlock Customer:

We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years.

Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on.

Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, <a title="slate" href="” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>slate-looking tiles for our roof.

The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, <a title="hot" href="” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house.

Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore.

Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof.

Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? – how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year <a title="warranty" href="” data-wpil-keyword-link=”linked”>warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in York

Homeowners researching metal roofing in York often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in York may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

In York a metal roof commonly lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt roofs typically have shorter lifespans. Coastal Maine sees cold, snowy winters with seasonal snowfall and occasional Nor’easters that bring heavy snow, wind and tidal surge risk—factors that increase roof loads and weather exposure. Maine’s climate is also marked by freeze‑thaw cycles and a coastal moisture/salt environment that can accelerate corrosion and wear on lesser materials, so choosing corrosion‑resistant metals and proper flashings matters. Homeowners in York often choose durable roofing systems for long‑term protection against wind, snow loads and salt spray rather than frequent asphalt replacements. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
Metal roofs in York, ME typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but many homeowners judge options by lifetime value rather than initial price. Local factors—coastal moisture and salt spray that accelerate corrosion, and snowy, windy winters with freeze–thaw cycles and significant snow loads—raise performance requirements for fasteners, coatings, and attachment methods in York’s coastal climate. Final cost depends on roof size, pitch, complexity, tear-off, flashing, skylights, and local labor rates; coastal construction details (corrosion-resistant fasteners, enhanced underlayment, steeper snow guards) can add to price. Durable metal systems often lower long‑term repair and replacement costs through longer service life and better storm performance. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and system durability rather than competing as the lowest‑cost roofing option.
Metal roofing is often worth the premium in York for homeowners who prioritize durability and long-term protection, but it isn’t the right choice for every budget. Lifespan: Metal typically lasts 40–70+ years versus 15–30 years for asphalt. Maintenance: metal needs occasional seal/fastener checks; shingles require more frequent repairs and replacement as granules wear. Durability: metal better resists coastal wind, salt spray, heavy snow loads and repeated freeze–thaw cycles common on the Maine coast, while asphalt can deteriorate faster in salty, wet winters. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal is often offset by longer life, fewer replacements and potential energy/insurance benefits. York’s cold, snowy, windy winters and coastal moisture make durability a key factor in material choice. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to homeowners seeking long-term performance and architectural curb appeal.
Many people think metal roofs are noisy in rain, but that’s a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking don’t sound like barn roofs. A finished roof assembly—solid sheathing, underlayment, insulation and attic cavity—absorbs and dampens impact noise. Roof framing, insulation thickness, ventilation and the overall roof assembly influence how loud rain seems. Quality installation and proper fastening reduce vibration and rattling. When installed as designed, residential metal roofs typically sound similar to asphalt shingle or tile roofs in a home setting. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems engineered for residential homes, combining panels, underlayments and flashing to control noise and weather performance.
In York, ME, a metal roof can be energy efficient because its reflective coatings reduce solar heat gain in summer, lowering cooling loads. However, overall performance depends on the complete roof assembly: underlayment, insulation levels, and attic ventilation determine heat retention in winter and heat rejection in summer. Maine’s cool, snowy winters and occasional humid summers mean reflective benefits are modest compared with the advantages of good insulation and ventilation for year‑round comfort and reduced energy bills. Homeowners replace roofs to improve comfort, lower heating and cooling costs, meet building codes, and increase resale value, so energy efficiency is a key decision factor. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered to work with proper insulation and ventilation to support long‑term home performance.
Q: How does metal roofing perform in York, ME severe weather? York experiences nor’easters and coastal storms with strong winds, heavy snow, ice and occasional hail that can stress roofs and cause wind-driven damage. Metal roofing sheds snow and ice, resists water intrusion, and—when specified with heavier gauges or impact-rated panels—offers good hail protection. Engineered systems provide high wind-uplift resistance and resist storm debris when properly detailed. Performance depends on: • roofing system design • installation quality • material durability Homeowners consider weather resilience to reduce leaks, repair costs and structural risk during nor’easters, ice storms and coastal wind events. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered specifically for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance; select the right panel, gauge and certified installer for best results.
Metal roofing performance depends on the metal chosen—steel, copper, zinc and aluminum each behave differently in wet, salty or acidic environments. Some metals corrode faster; others form protective films or resist oxidation. Aluminum performs particularly well in wet or coastal settings because it naturally forms a thin, protective oxide layer that slows corrosion and resists rust. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to protect structural integrity, avoid leaks and reduce long‑term maintenance and replacement costs—especially in York, ME’s marine climate. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance, and Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, enhancing durability and maintaining appearance over time.
Metal roofing in York, Maine is generally low maintenance and highly durable, making it a good choice for coastal and seasonal climates. No roof is completely maintenance‑free: periodic inspections are recommended to catch small issues before they grow. Check for accumulated debris, clean gutters, examine flashing and sealants around chimneys or vents, and inspect fasteners and roof penetrations. After heavy weather—nor’easters, wind storms, or winter ice—and during leaf season, clear debris and look for damage or finish wear; coastal salt spray can accelerate wear if coatings are compromised. With routine checks and prompt attention to problems, a properly installed metal roof will give long service with relatively little upkeep.
In York, ME, a quality metal roof can boost resale value because buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofing that reduces future repair costs. Premium materials also enhance curb appeal, helping a home stand out in competitive neighborhoods, while a long lifespan improves buyer confidence in the property’s condition. Architectural style matters: a metal roof that suits nearby homes and historic districts is more likely to add value than one that clashes with neighborhood character. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles such as slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy gauge aluminum and solid copper. Proper installation and matching the roof profile to local styles are key to maximizing any value uplift.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are solar‑compatible and Interlock Metal Roofing – New England can install custom solar brackets engineered for their standing‑seam profiles. York’s coastal homes face persistent salt‑spray and high coastal moisture plus pronounced freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal snow loads, so durability and corrosion resistance matter for long‑term solar mounts. Roof lifespan is crucial—metal roofs often outlast asphalt shingles, reducing the chance you’ll remove panels for reroofing. When comparing materials in York, prioritize long‑lasting, corrosion‑resistant roofs and plan for solar at replacement to minimize future disruption.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
