Hillsboro, OR Interlock Metal Roof Review (Installed 2015)

Hillsboro, OR

TL;DR: Hillsboro Review Summary

Roofing installation in Hillsboro, Oregon. Initially apprehensive about Interlock’s higher upfront cost versus a basic composite shingle replacement, the homeowner was swayed by the product’s engineered interlocking panels, long-lasting appearance, and environmental benefits—keeping the home cooler and serving as the last roof replacement the house will need—and praised the installation crew for completing their small, simple roof in just over two days in triple‑digit heat while leaving gutters and yard cleaner; they are very happy with the new roof and overall experience.
Ben S.

I was initially apprehensive about the higher upfront cost of Interlock when compared to a basic composite shingle replacement, but three factors swayed me to give Interlock my business.

First, the engineering behind the product is quite impressive. By that, I mean the way the panels interlock to form a tight, durable roof.

Second, the roof looks great and will look the same for decades.

Third, it’s a more environmentally sound solution by keeping my home cooler in the summer and also by being the last roof replacement the house will need.

I have to say the installation crew was top-notch. They completed the job from tear-off to done in just over two days and left the gutters and yard cleaner than they found them. Admittedly my roof is small and fairly simple but to knock it out in two days during the triple-digit heat earned them my respect. All in all, I’d say I’m very happy with my new roof and the overall experience of working with Interlock.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hillsboro

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Hillsboro often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Hillsboro may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

A metal roof in Hillsboro typically lasts at least 50–75+ years, while conventional asphalt shingles usually last about 15–30 years. Hillsboro sees roughly 38 in. of annual precipitation and only light, infrequent snow—wet, cool winters are common, which promotes persistent moisture and moss growth that shortens asphalt life. Because rainfall and year‑round humidity (and resulting moss) are the main local stressors, homeowners favor metal for its moisture resistance, low maintenance, and superior durability. Metal also sheds water and snow better and resists rot and algae that plague shingles. For long-term protection in Hillsboro, Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and are backed by a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty, making them a common choice for homeowners seeking longevity and low upkeep.
Expect a metal roof in Hillsboro to cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Prices depend heavily on roof size, slope and complexity, tear-off and disposal, flashing and skylights, local labor rates and permit/site access. Hillsboro averages about 38–39 inches of precipitation a year, so wet winters increase demand for water‑shedding, corrosion‑resistant materials that stand up to frequent rain and runoff. Persistent winter moisture and moderate humidity can promote moss and algae on shaded roofs, making low‑maintenance metal systems attractive for long‑term performance. Many homeowners judge roofing by lifetime value rather than initial price: durable systems often cut future repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and performance rather than competing as the lowest‑cost option.
In Hillsboro, metal roofing can be worth the higher upfront cost for homeowners who prioritize durability and long-term protection. Hillsboro averages roughly 38–39 inches of rain and high humidity, which encourages moss and accelerated asphalt wear, while winters are generally mild with low snow loads. Lifespan: metal typically lasts 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs minimal upkeep and resists rot and moss; asphalt requires periodic moss removal, patching, and shingle replacement. Durability: metal better resists driving rain, wind, and moisture-driven deterioration; asphalt is more susceptible to granule loss and biological growth. Long-term value: metal’s higher initial cost often pays off via fewer repairs and longer service life. Homeowners wanting long-term performance, low maintenance, and architectural curb appeal often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal because interlocking panels reduce leaks, enhance wind resistance, and offer lasting finishes that suit Hillsboro’s wet climate.
This is a common myth in Hillsboro, OR: metal roofs are loud in rain. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking and proper underlayment do not sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on the full roof assembly—insulation, attic volume, underlayment, and ventilation greatly reduce impact noise—so a metal roof with adequate insulation and an air gap often matches the rain sound level of asphalt or tile. Installation quality and fastening matter: secure fasteners, proper clips, and correct substrate minimize vibration. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to other roofing materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes.
Yes—metal roofing can be energy efficient in Hillsboro, OR. Metal roofs reflect sunlight, reducing heat gain in summer and helping lower cooling loads. Overall energy performance also depends on the full roof assembly: proper underlayment, adequate insulation, and ventilation all influence heat transfer and moisture control. Hillsboro’s temperate, wet winters and mild summers mean reflective coatings help in summer, while insulation and ventilation are critical year‑round to prevent heat loss and condensation. Homeowners replacing roofs often weigh energy efficiency to reduce utility bills, improve comfort, qualify for incentives, and increase resale value. When specified and installed with the right components, metal roofing can deliver measurable benefits. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
In Hillsboro, metal roofs can perform very well against local severe weather—frequent heavy rain, seasonal strong winds and occasional hail—when the system is designed and installed correctly. Performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality, and material durability: panel profile, attachment pattern, underlayment and fasteners control wind uplift and leak resistance. Metal roofing sheds water quickly and resists wind uplift; impact-rated alloys and coatings improve hail protection, though extreme hail or poor installation can cause damage. Homeowners consider weather resilience to limit water entry, reduce repair costs, and maintain insurance coverage and resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance and can deliver long-term performance in Hillsboro’s climate. Work with certified installers and choose impact-rated panels and tested attachment systems for best results.
Corrosion and rust resistance are vital for metal roofing in Hillsboro, OR. Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal: steel and corten rust differently, while aluminum and some coated steels resist corrosion better. Some materials are inherently more resistant—aluminum forms a protective oxide layer—so it performs especially well in the wet Pacific Northwest and in coastal or salt‑exposed environments. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to avoid leaks, reduced service life, and higher maintenance costs over time. Choosing a corrosion‑resistant system preserves home value and minimizes long‑term repairs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, improving longevity and reducing upkeep in Hillsboro’s wet climate.
Metal roofing in Hillsboro, Oregon is generally considered a low‑maintenance choice due to its durability and resistance to rot, insects and fire. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: homeowners should inspect their metal roof periodically—after major storms and at least twice a year—to catch issues early. Look for accumulated debris, clogged gutters, damaged or loose flashing, and problems around penetrations such as vents, chimneys and skylights. Seasonal leaves, moss and wind‑driven branches common in the Pacific Northwest can trap moisture and hasten wear if left unchecked. With routine visual checks and timely cleanup or repairs, a metal roof provides long‑lasting, low‑maintenance protection well suited to Hillsboro’s climate.
In Hillsboro, OR, metal roofing can increase home value because buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair costs. Premium roofing materials also boost curb appeal, helping a house stand out in local neighborhoods. A metal roof’s long lifespan gives buyers greater confidence in the home’s condition. Architectural style matters—choosing a profile that complements neighborhood character is important for resale. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting homeowners match aesthetics while providing the durability many buyers seek. In Hillsboro’s competitive market, the right metal roof can help justify a higher asking price when it fits the home’s style and neighborhood context.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar when custom solar brackets are installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. In Hillsboro’s rainy, humid climate (about 39 in. annual precipitation), moisture and moss can affect roof fasteners and underlays, so a durable, long‑lasting roof minimizes future panel removal and rework. Homeowners should factor future solar when replacing a roof: longer‑life materials reduce outage risk and total cost over the array’s life. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and designed to support solar mounting solutions, making them a good choice versus shorter‑lived materials for Hillsboro’s wet, moss‑prone conditions.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
