Durable Metal Shingle Roof in Mar, ON: Interlock Review Praises Quality, Value, and Professional Installation

Mar, ON

From talking with Marcella the receptionist then meeting Bruce when he came to our home to show us the product and finally meeting Maurice and Brian the installers we are unable to say enough good things about Interlock or the people we met from Interlock. Their price was comparable with asphalt shingles in our area and far below other metal roofers. They offered better value and a better warranty than anyone else we talked to,. We live on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario and it is a very windy and stormy as we are between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. So far our roof has maintained the quality we were promised and it has definitely exceeded our expectations. We have had two blizzards so far this year (22/23) with lots of snow and we are glad we decided to get Interlock roofing installed on our home and have the ice guards installed as well. Maurice and Brian worked during the latter part of the summer and didn’t quit even though the weather was extremely hot. They were a welcome pair at our home and are always welcome to return when they wish. As I stated earlier I can not say enough good about Interlock and the roof or the people we met and now consider our friends and family. We further feel this is the best investment we have made to upgrading our home so far, and have received multiple compliments from our neighbours about our roof. Thank you Interlock and job well done.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Mar

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Mar often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Mar may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Mar, ON commonly last 40–70+ years, while asphalt roofs typically have shorter lifespans (often 15–25 years depending on quality). Mar experiences cold winters with significant snowfall and more frequent freeze–thaw cycles—conditions that increase snow loads and ice-dam risk and accelerate sealant and shingle wear. Because metal sheds snow, resists moisture intrusion and tolerates repeated freeze–thaw and wind/hail events better than asphalt, homeowners choose durable metal systems to reduce maintenance, extend service life, and protect against local weather stresses. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
In Mar, ON, a metal roof typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles, but exact pricing varies. Key cost drivers include roof size, slope and complexity, whether old roofing must be torn off, the amount of flashing and skylight work required, and local labour rates. Local construction factors — seasonal access, municipal requirements and prevailing contractor demand in Mar — can also influence the final price. Many homeowners compare roofing options on lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofs often have longer lifespans, better durability and lower maintenance, which can reduce future repair and replacement costs over decades. If budget is a concern, get detailed quotes that break down materials, installation and expected service life. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value and performance, positioning its systems as investments in durability and reduced lifecycle costs rather than as the lowest-cost roofing option.
Short answer: metal roofing can be worth the higher upfront cost in Mar for homeowners who prioritise durability and long‑term protection; asphalt shingles are cheaper initially but usually need earlier replacement. Lifespan: metal: 40–70+ years; asphalt: 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs occasional seal/fastener checks; shingles need more frequent repairs, moss treatment and earlier full replacement. Durability: metal resists heavy lake‑effect snow, ice dams, freeze–thaw cycling and wind better than shingles; asphalt is more prone to granular loss, curling and moisture damage in these conditions. Mar’s proximity to Lake Huron means variable precipitation, lake‑effect snow and frequent freeze–thaw cycles—factors that accelerate shingle wear and favour long‑lasting, low‑maintenance roofing. Long‑term value: metal often lowers life‑cycle cost and boosts curb appeal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to homeowners seeking lasting performance, strong weather protection and architectural curb appeal.
Are metal roofs noisy in the rain in Mar, ON? This is a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking with proper underlayment, insulation and attic space do not sound like barn roofs; they’re typically similar in sound to asphalt or tile. Roof assembly — deck, underlayment, insulation and ventilation — plus installation quality all affect how much rain noise you hear. Poorly installed panels or roof cavities can increase sound, while complete systems with insulation and air gaps reduce it. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes and, when fitted correctly, produce rain-noise levels comparable to other roofing materials.
In Mar, ON, a metal roof can be energy efficient because its reflective surface reduces sunlight absorption, lowering cooling loads in summer. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly — underlayment, insulation and ventilation — which control heat transfer and moisture. In Ontario’s climate, seasonal heating demand means reflective benefits in summer may be offset by winter heat loss unless the assembly is well insulated and ventilated. Homeowners researching roof replacement consider energy efficiency to reduce utility bills, improve indoor comfort, avoid moisture problems, qualify for incentives, and boost resale value. Choosing a metal roof as part of a complete, well‑insulated and ventilated system delivers the best results. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
Mar, ON faces heavy snow, freezing rain and ice storms, thunderstorms with hail, strong winds and occasional tornado risk—conditions that commonly challenge roofs in Ontario. Metal roofing performs well in wind, shed snow effectively, resists water intrusion from driving rain and—when specified with impact-resistant panels—offers strong protection against hail. Performance, however, depends on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability: a well‑designed Interlock system, correct underlayments and expert fastening matter. Homeowners prioritise weather resilience to protect structure, reduce maintenance and lower insurance risk. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and rated wind resistance, but final performance relies on the chosen profile, gauge, fasteners and installer expertise. Regular inspections after severe weather help maintain long‑term protection.
In Mar, ON, metal roofing corrosion and rust resistance depends on the metal chosen. Different metals—steel, Galvalume, zinc and aluminium—have different behaviours: some develop protective films while others need coatings to prevent rust. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it naturally forms a stable oxide layer that resists corrosion. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to ensure long service life, lower maintenance and repair costs, better weather performance and stronger resale value—especially in Ontario’s wet, freeze–thaw and lakeside conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, giving enhanced durability and reduced upkeep.
Metal roofing is generally considered low maintenance but not maintenance‑free. In March in Ontario, homeowners should inspect roofs periodically — at least twice a year and after heavy storms — to spot loose fasteners, damaged flashing, blocked gutters or accumulated debris. Clear leaves, branches and meltwater pathways, and ensure gutters, downspouts and roof penetrations such as vents, chimneys and skylights are secure and sealed. Check flashing around valleys and eaves for corrosion or gaps. Severe weather, ice dams or seasonal debris can cause dents, scratches or leaks, so repair damage promptly. Overall, metal roofs offer excellent durability and long service life, making them a resilient, lower‑maintenance choice for Ontario.
In Mar, ON, metal roofing can increase a home’s resale value. Buyers often prioritise durable, low‑maintenance roofs, so a metal roof can be an attractive selling point. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, helping a property stand out in its neighbourhood. The long lifespan of metal roofs improves buyer confidence because it reduces near‑term replacement costs. Architectural style matters locally — a metal roof that mimics slate or cedar may suit heritage streets, while standing‑seam profiles fit modern builds. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles — slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam — available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, allowing you to match material and style to neighbourhood character and buyer expectations.
Yes. Interlock metal roofing is compatible with solar panels when fitted with custom solar brackets supplied and installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. In Mar, ON, snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw/freezing‑rain events can affect roof attachments and flashing. Because panels add weight and limit easy reroofing access, roof lifespan matters: choose a long‑lasting material so you don’t need to remove panels for replacement soon. If you’re comparing materials, prioritise durable options now and tell your roofer you plan to add solar later. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and engineered to support secure mounting solutions, reducing leak risk and making future panel installation simpler.
