Interlock Aluminum Roofing Review — Edmonton, AB (Installed 2016)

Edmonton, AB

TL;DR: Edmonton Review Summary

Roofing installation in Edmonton: after 30‑year shingles installed twelve years earlier began curling and wearing out, the homeowner contacted Interlock Roofing. Salesman Derek Bryer explained pros and cons and, despite Interlock costing three times standard asphalt shingles, the homeowner proceeded; installers were professional, efficient, communicative, and left a neat site, and the new roof looks great, boosts curb appeal, and is expected to increase resale value.

Twelve years ago I put thirty year shingles on my house. They were now curling up and worn out.
I got quotes from three different roofers in the area who were all telling me that the new and improved thirty year shingles would be better.
I wasn’t buying it. They looked exactly the same as the ones I bought twelve years ago.
I saw an add from Interlock Roofing and decided to give them a call.

Derek Bryer, their salesman came by the house and explained the pros and cons of various roofing products. I was very comfortable with his approach and chose to go ahead with Interlock even though the price was 3x that of asphalt shingles. It was worth knowing I would never have to do this again.

The installers were professional and they worked efficiently as a team.
Every one knew what they were doing and communicated well with me throughout the process. They kept the job site neat and tidy.
My roof looks amazing and really adds to the curb appeal. I believe it will add significantly to the resale value of my home down the road.
I was so impressed with the Interlock product that when we needed to replace the shingles on my Church I referred them to Derek. He was able to work out a good deal for them as well.

If your looking at a residential or commercial roofing product that will stand up to Edmonton weather I would highly recommend you give Derek Bryer at Interlock Roofing a call.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Edmonton

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Edmonton often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Edmonton may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofing in Edmonton commonly lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last much shorter (often 15–25 years depending on quality). Edmonton’s long, cold winters with substantial snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles accelerate wear on roof membranes and fasteners, making durable, low-maintenance materials advantageous. Hail events and high winds are also local risks that can dent or displace weaker roofing systems, another reason homeowners favour metal for longevity and storm resistance. Homeowners often choose metal for its snow-shedding ability, hail and wind resilience, low maintenance, and energy efficiency. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminium and a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for long-term protection.
Edmonton’s climate—long, cold, snowy winters with significant snow loads and repeated freeze–thaw cycles—directly affects roofing choices and costs. Wind and occasional hail add extra risk to roof materials and fastening details. Metal roofs typically cost more up front than asphalt shingles. Final price in Edmonton depends on roof size, slope, complexity (ridges, valleys), tear-off and disposal, quality of flashing and underlayment (ice‑and‑water shields for snow/ice), skylights and penetrations, and labour rates. Local construction factors—required snow-load design, extra ice‑shielding, and seasonal labour availability—can raise costs. Many homeowners evaluate options by lifetime value (durability, lower maintenance and replacement frequency) rather than initial price. Durable metal systems often reduce long‑term repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasises long‑term ownership value and performance rather than competing as a low‑cost roofing option.
Edmonton’s cold, snowy winters with significant snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles place extra stress on roofs—ice damming and repeated freeze–thaw damage are common. Hail and strong wind events also occur and can accelerate wear on roofing materials. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70+ years; asphalt shingles 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs less upkeep (periodic inspections, fastener checks); shingles need more frequent repairs and eventual replacement. Durability: metal sheds snow and resists moisture and freeze–thaw cycling better; asphalt can lose granules, suffer ice-dam damage and wind uplift. Long-term value: metal costs more up front but often lowers lifetime costs and improves resale; shingles are cheaper initially but may require multiple replacements. Homeowners prioritising durability and long-term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals for its long-term performance, integrated snow/wind resistance and strong architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth: metal roofs in Edmonton, AB are noisy when it rains. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. Sound depends on the roof assembly—insulation, attic space, underlayment and fastening method all affect how rain noise is transmitted into living spaces. Quality installation and appropriate underlayments reduce vibration and airborne noise; poor installation can increase it. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed for residential homes, incorporating decking, underlayments and attachment details to control noise and performance.
Yes — a metal roof can be energy efficient in Edmonton, AB. Metal roofing often reflects sunlight, reducing solar heat gain during warm months, and reflective coatings or lighter colours boost that effect. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly: quality insulation, air‑sealing and attic ventilation control winter heat loss and summer heat transfer. Edmonton’s climate — cold winters and warm, sunny summers — shapes which benefits matter most. Homeowners replacing roofs often consider energy efficiency to lower heating and cooling costs, improve year‑round comfort, and future‑proof their houses for resale and operating costs. Choosing the right colour, finish and professional installation helps maximise benefits. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance.
Edmonton’s climate includes cold, snowy winters and an active convective season with strong winds, heavy rain and frequent hail; Environment Canada issues local warnings for storms in the Edmonton area. Severe thunderstorms, heavy winds and hail cause most storm damage across Alberta, so roofs here face impact and wind-loading risks year-round. Metal roofing performs well in severe weather when the system is properly designed and installed: interlocking profiles and mechanical fastening resist wind uplift, thicker gauge and coated metals reduce hail damage, and smooth surfaces shed snow and water. Actual performance depends on roofing system design, installation quality and material durability. Homeowners prioritise weather resilience to protect structure, reduce repair costs and maintain insurance eligibility. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance.
Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal chosen: steel, zinc, copper and aluminium each behave differently when exposed to weather. Some materials are inherently more resistant to corrosion—aluminium and copper form protective surface oxides, while untreated steel can rust. Aluminium performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because its oxide layer slows corrosion. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance because it significantly affects roof lifespan, maintenance costs, appearance and the risk of leaks or structural damage. In Edmonton’s climate, with freeze–thaw cycles and regular snowfall, corrosion resistance helps ensure reliable long‑term performance and keeps warranties valid. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems use aluminium construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
Metal roofs are generally low maintenance but not maintenance‑free. Inspect periodically—after storms, high winds or seasonal debris—to spot loose panels, fasteners, damaged flashing, clogged gutters or compromised roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights). Remove leaves, branches and grit that trap moisture and check gutters and downspouts for proper drainage. Ensure flashing and sealants remain intact and tighten or replace fasteners as needed. Weather events (hail, ice, heavy snow) and seasonal debris can cause dents, scratches or block drainage, so inspect promptly after such events. With routine checks and occasional minor upkeep, metal roofing remains a durable, long‑lasting, low‑maintenance option for Edmonton homes.
Can metal roofing increase home value in Edmonton, AB? Yes—many buyers value durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair concerns and ongoing costs. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, helping homes stand out in local listings and attract higher offers. A long lifespan boosts buyer confidence because fewer near‑term replacements are expected. In Edmonton’s climate, buyers often prize resilient roofing that handles freeze‑thaw cycles and heavy winter conditions. Architectural style matters too: a roof that complements neighbourhood character and streetscape will add more value than one that looks out of place. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam—available in heavy‑gauge aluminium and solid copper, letting you match local styles while delivering longevity and low upkeep.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are compatible with solar panels when fitted with the custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. Edmonton’s heavy snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles can increase roof loading and stress on mounts, so choosing a durable roof and proper attachment details is important. Roof lifespan matters when adding panels—long-lasting materials are generally preferred because panels remain after roof work. If you plan solar in future, replace your roof with a long‑life, solar‑compatible system now. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions and minimise future re‑work.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Corvallis, OR Metal Shingle Roof Review — Interlock (Installed 2017)

Review: April 24, 2026

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
