TL;DR: Boston Review Summary

This roofing installation in Boston was an Interlock metal roof chosen as part of a challenging home upgrade. After working with Christopher Lacky, Chris, Paul and Nazar the homeowner praised the team’s professionalism and knowledge; the roof has made winters feel warmer and summers cooler, though it is noisy during rainstorms—a feature the homeowner has grown to like.

Choosing a metal roof was an easy decision after working with Christopher Lacky choosing Interlock was definitely the best choicewe made. Chris, Paul and Nazar made a challenging home upgrade into such a delight. The professionalism and knowledge was by far top notch. The winter months seem warmer and summer cooler. Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Boston

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Boston often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Boston may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

In Boston a properly installed metal roof commonly lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last much less (often 15–30 years depending on quality). Boston’s climate features nor’easters and winter snow loads along with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and onshore coastal moisture and salt spray—conditions that speed deterioration of asphalt and can corrode lesser metals. Metal roofing resists heavy snow, sheds ice and water, and stands up to wind and coastal humidity better than asphalt, which is why homeowners choose more durable systems to reduce maintenance and replacement frequency. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and carry a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty, offering long-term protection well suited to Boston’s coastal, snowy climate.
How much does a metal roof cost in Boston? Metal roofs typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but exact price depends on roof size, pitch, complexity (multiple planes, valleys), tear‑off, flashing, skylights, and labor. Local factors — heavy Nor’easter snow with freeze–thaw cycles and coastal moisture with wind‑driven rain — increase demands on flashing, fasteners and underlayment and can raise material and installation complexity for Boston roofs. Climate change is also increasing storm intensity and coastal risks that affect long‑term roofing choices. Local construction factors such as labor rates, code requirements, permits and roof access/scaffolding can further influence cost. Many homeowners compare lifetime value — warranty length, energy savings and reduced maintenance — rather than initial price, since durable metal systems often cut future repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long‑term ownership value rather than competing as a low‑cost roofing option.
Metal vs asphalt in Boston: Lifespan — metal typically lasts 40–70+ years while asphalt shingles last about 15–25 years. Maintenance — metal needs occasional inspections and seal checks; asphalt often requires more frequent repairs after winter freeze–thaw cycles and ice-dam events. Durability — metal better resists snow loads, coastal moisture, high winds and salt spray; asphalt can crack, curl, or lose granules during harsh winters and Nor’easters. Long-term value — metal’s higher upfront cost is offset by longer service life, fewer replacements, and possible energy/insurance savings, while asphalt is less expensive up front for owners planning shorter-term occupancy. Boston’s cold, snowy winters, freeze–thaw cycles and coastal storms increase shingle wear and ice‑dam risk, making metal attractive for homeowners prioritizing durability and long‑term protection. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal because interlocking engineered panels provide weather-tight performance, long-term durability, and strong architectural curb appeal.
Many people think metal roofs are noisy in rain, but that’s a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs; they sit on plywood or OSB and don’t vibrate like thin, exposed panels. Sound depends on insulation, attic space, and the full roof assembly (underlayment, sheathing, insulation, ceiling), so well‑insulated homes reduce rain noise to levels similar to asphalt, tile, or slate. Installation quality matters—fastening, flashing, and proper attachment control noise and movement. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to other roofing materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed specifically for residential homes.
Metal roofs can be energy efficient in Boston because their reflective surfaces reduce solar heat gain in summer, lowering cooling loads. Actual savings depend on the full roof assembly: insulation levels, underlayment and attic ventilation play a major role in overall performance. Boston’s climate—cold winters and warm, humid summers—means benefits vary by season; reflective coatings help summer comfort, while proper insulation and air‑sealing preserve winter heat. Homeowners researching roof replacement often consider energy efficiency to cut utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, qualify for local incentives or codes, and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered to work with appropriate insulation and ventilation strategies and are designed to support long-term home performance.
Boston roofs face Nor’easters with heavy snow, ice and strong coastal winds, plus occasional tropical storms and severe storms that can produce wind damage and hail—conditions that routinely affect roof performance in the region. Massachusetts has also experienced numerous costly severe-weather events, underscoring the need for resilient roofing. Metal roofing can perform very well in wind (secure anchoring, interlocking panels), shed snow and ice efficiently, and resist rot and fire. Large hail or poor design/installation can still cause dents or leaks, so actual performance depends on system design, installation quality, and material durability. Homeowners weight weather resilience to protect structure, reduce leak and repair risk, and lower insurance/long‑term costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance, making them a strong option for Boston’s severe weather.
Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing depend on the metal type and exposure. Steel, copper, and aluminum perform differently: some alloys and coatings make certain metals more resistant to corrosion than others. Aluminum performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer and resists saltwater damage. Homeowners should prioritize corrosion resistance to extend roof lifespan, reduce maintenance and repair costs, and avoid leaks and structural issues caused by rust. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, making them a sensible choice for Boston’s humid, coastal-influenced climate.
Metal roofing in Boston is a durable, low‑maintenance option, resisting rot and many common roofing problems. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free. Homeowners should inspect their metal roofs periodically—especially after nor’easters, heavy snow, high winds, or salt‑spray events common to the Boston area. Check for accumulated debris, clogged gutters, loose or damaged flashing, and roof penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights). Remove leaves and branches, clear gutters, and verify sealants and fasteners are intact; seasonal freeze–thaw and coastal conditions can accelerate wear or expose weak points. With routine visual checks and prompt attention to storm damage, a metal roof will typically provide long life and lower upkeep than many other roofing materials.
In Boston, MA, metal roofing can increase a home’s market appeal and sometimes its value. Buyers often value durable, low‑maintenance roofs that lower future repair costs, and premium roofing materials can noticeably enhance curb appeal in competitive Boston neighborhoods. The long lifespan of metal roofing also improves buyer confidence, since fewer near‑term replacements are needed. That said, architectural style matters—roof choices that fit a neighborhood’s historic or contemporary character (e.g., Beacon Hill vs. South Boston) will perform best. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles such as slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam, available in heavy gauge aluminum and solid copper. When properly specified for Boston’s climate and streetscape, metal roofing can be a strong selling point.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on Interlock Metal Roofing Systems in Boston? Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are solar compatible and can accept custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing – New England. Boston’s frequent freeze–thaw cycles and ice‑dam risks increase roof stresses, and coastal moisture/salt spray can accelerate corrosion—both should be addressed in mounting and flashing details. Because panels add weight and may outlast some coverings, choose long‑lasting roofing materials and consider future solar plans when replacing a roof. Interlock systems are designed to support solar mounting solutions, making them a strong option if you want durability and easier solar integration.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

Completion: November 9, 2017

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
