North Reading, MA Metal Roof Review — Interlock Red Metal Roof (Installed 2009)

North Reading, MA

TL;DR: North Reading Review Summary

Roofing installation in North Reading: the homeowner had a red Interlock roof installed and was initially nervous about the color choice. They praise Mike and Miranda for knowledgeable, responsive service and installers for prompt, polite work—who suggested adding ice guards above the skylights, worked late to avoid rain, and cleaned up each day—and say the roof looks amazing, draws attention from passing drivers, and is expected to deliver immediate reductions in heating and electricity bills plus the long-term benefit of not needing another replacement.
Christopher and Danon P.

Dear Interlock,

This letter is in regards to the absolutely gorgeous roof you recently installed for us.

The roof looks amazing. The red choice was a little nerve racking, but it is even better than we could have imagined. We live on a very busy street and we can often hear cars slowing down in front of the house to look at the roof.

Mike met with us in mid March and was extremely knowledgeable about the product and answered all our questions. When we were ready to proceed with the project. Miranda was very helpful and courteous to us. Within a couple of days of getting the go ahead for the project, one of Interlock’s installers was at our door, saying they would be starting the next day. He notice something that was missed in the initial roof review and suggested we add some ice guards above our skylights for extra protection. They started the next day promptly at 8am and with fear of rain the following day they worked til well after dark and then picked up the debris from our yard and took it away with them. They also carefully covered the additional materials to be used in case of rain. They finished the project in a couple of days and cleaned up every day before they left. The installers were very polite and worked hard to get the project completed.

We plan on staying in our home for many years to come and are pleased with the decision we made to go with the Interlock Roofing System. Both for the beauty it adds to the exterior of our home, the immediate savings coming over our way with reduced heat and electricity bills and the long term benefit of never having to replace the roof again.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Reading

Homeowners researching metal roofing in North Reading often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in North Reading may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years, so homeowners often choose metal for long-term value. In North Reading, winters are cold and snowy (≈48 in. average annual snowfall) and the region gets substantial annual precipitation—conditions that drive freeze–thaw cycles, ice dams and heavy snow loads that accelerate wear on asphalt and flashings but are less damaging to properly installed metal panels. Metal roofs shed snow, resist moisture intrusion and tolerate freeze–thaw and storm winds better, reducing maintenance and replacement frequency. For these reasons many local homeowners select durable systems. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.
How much does a metal roof cost in North Reading, MA? Metal roofs typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price in North Reading depends on roof size, slope and complexity (dormers, valleys, multiple pitches), plus tear-off and disposal, flashing, skylights, ventilation, and local labor rates. Local construction factors—winter weather, building codes, permit fees, and availability of experienced metal roofers—can influence cost. Many homeowners compare roofing options based on lifetime value rather than initial price: higher upfront cost for metal often yields a longer service life, fewer repairs, and lower replacement frequency. Durable metal roofing systems can reduce future repair and replacement costs, especially in New England’s climate. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long-term ownership value rather than competing as a low-cost roofing option.
Short answer: For many North Reading homeowners, metal roofing can be worth the higher upfront cost if you prioritize durability and long‑term protection; asphalt shingles cost less initially but usually need replacement sooner. Lifespan: Asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years; quality metal roofs often last 40–70+ years. Maintenance: Metal requires little routine upkeep; shingles need periodic inspections, moss/algae cleaning and more frequent repairs. Durability: Metal better resists heavy snow, ice-damming and freeze–thaw cycling common in North Reading and is less prone to moisture-related moss growth; shingles can be damaged by repeated freeze–thaw and biological growth. Long-term value: Metal’s higher initial price is offset by longer service life and lower life‑cycle costs for homeowners planning to stay or seeking long-term protection. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals because it pairs that longevity with strong architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth in North Reading, MA: metal roofs are noisy when it rains. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs; they sit on a continuous substrate rather than exposed rafters. Insulation, the attic cavity, underlayment, and overall roof assembly strongly affect rain sound, and a well‑designed assembly will dampen noise. Installation quality and fastening methods matter—gaps or improper attachment can increase sound. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt shingles or tile. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems specifically designed for residential homes, including components that reduce noise and improve performance.
Yes. In North Reading, MA, a metal roof can be energy-efficient because metal panels reflect sunlight and reduce summer heat gain, lowering cooling loads. Benefits vary with climate—New England’s warm, humid summers and cold winters mean reflectivity helps in summer, while winter performance depends more on a well‑sealed, insulated roof assembly. Roof assembly, insulation, and ventilation strongly influence real-world energy performance: adequate attic insulation, air sealing, and balanced ventilation control heat flow and moisture, reducing heating demand and ice-dam risk. Homeowners researching roof replacement often prioritize energy efficiency to cut utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, extend roof and HVAC lifespan, and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long-term home performance.
How does metal roofing perform in North Reading, MA during severe weather? North Reading faces nor’easters, heavy snow, ice‑dam risk and strong wind gusts that stress roofs. Properly engineered metal roofs resist high winds, shed snow and ice, tolerate hail better than many shingles, and often last longer, reducing leak and collapse risk. Many metal profiles shed snow more quickly than shingles, lowering ice‑dam and structural load exposure. Performance depends on system design (profile, underlayment, attachments), installation quality (fastening, flashing, seals) and material durability (gauge, coating). Even well‑made roofs can be damaged in extreme events. Homeowners consider weather resilience because it affects safety, insurance, maintenance and long‑term cost. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance. Regular inspection, prompt snow/ice removal and maintained flashing extend service life.
Metal roofing performance depends largely on the metal used: steel, galvanized steel, zinc, copper and aluminum each behave differently in moisture and salt exposure. Some materials—particularly aluminum, zinc and copper—are naturally more corrosion-resistant than untreated steel. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments because it forms a protective oxide layer that slows deterioration. Homeowners in North Reading, MA should prioritize corrosion resistance when choosing roofing to extend service life, reduce maintenance and avoid leaks, staining and structural damage from prolonged exposure. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection, helping safeguard your investment in harsh or humid conditions.
Metal roofing in North Reading, Massachusetts is generally considered a durable, low‑maintenance option. That said, no roof is completely maintenance‑free: homeowners should inspect their roof periodically and after major weather events. Remove seasonal debris, check and clear gutters, and inspect flashing, sealants, skylights, vents and other penetrations for signs of wear or loosening. New England freeze–thaw cycles, heavy snow, ice dams, wind and falling branches can affect seams and fasteners, so address issues promptly to prevent leaks. Regular visual checks and occasional professional inspections keep warranties valid and extend service life. When cared for, metal roofs offer long lifespan, strong performance and lower routine upkeep compared with many other roofing materials.
In North Reading, MA, metal roofing can boost home value. Buyers often prioritize durable, low-maintenance roofs, and premium materials that enhance curb appeal can make a difference. A metal roof’s long lifespan and resistance to weather improve buyer confidence at sale time. That said, architectural style matters—homes in established North Reading neighborhoods sell better when roofing matches local character. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles—slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam—so you can match historic or modern styles. Options are available in heavy-gauge aluminum and solid copper, providing both performance and premium aesthetics. Local realtors can better quantify the likely impact on sale price.
Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems in North Reading accept solar panels when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing – New England. North Reading’s notable winter snowfall and frequent freeze–thaw cycles increase snow loads and ice-dam risk, so choosing a durable roof that won’t need replacement soon is important for solar longevity. When comparing materials, prioritize long-lasting roofs (like Interlock’s metal) because roof lifespan affects panel removal/re-install costs. Plan for solar at reroof time so brackets and penetrations are integrated. Interlock systems are solar-compatible and engineered to support mounting solutions, making them a strong option for North Reading homeowners weighing durability and future solar installation.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

April 22, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

April 19, 2026

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

April 15, 2026

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

April 14, 2026

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof & Snow Guards Review — Owen Sound, ON (Installed 2017)

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Burnaby, BC Metal Roofing (Installed 2024)

April 13, 2026

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

April 12, 2026

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

Willowbrook, IL Metal Roof Review — Interlock Roofing (Installed 2016)

April 11, 2026

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
