Interlock Metal Roof Review — Milwaukee, WI (Installed 2017)

Milwaukee, WI

TL;DR: Milwaukee Review Summary

This is a roofing installation in Milwaukee: the homeowner chose a new metal roof after meeting Interlock at a remodeling show and receiving a prompt, thorough estimate. Work started about two months later; crews removed old shingles and installed the waterproofing membrane quickly, but delayed material delivery and a heavy rainy week led to water in the kitchen and ceiling damage before the company expedited completion in one day—the finished metal roof is attractive, the installers did a great job, and the company has promised to pay for the kitchen damage.

We visited the booth Interlock had at the Remodelling Show at State Fair Park. We got a lot of excellent information there and left our number for a call-back. We did receive the call back promptly and got an appointment right away. The estimator showed up on time and thoroughly explained the process, the product choices and the costs. We signed up for a new metal roof that evening because the advantages were so many, and the expense over time was not much different from regular shingles. This metal roof will probably outlive us! The actual work didn’t start for about two months because the company was very busy, but removing the old layers of shingles was the first process. This was done in a day, and the waterproofing membrane went on. The roofing materials were supposed to be delivered in a couple of days, which unfortunately didn’t happen. The actual work didn’t start for about two months because the company was very busy, but removing the old layers of shingles was the first process. This was done in a day, and the waterproofing membrane went on. The roofing materials were supposed to be delivered in a couple of days, which unfortunately didn’t happen. Instead, a heavy, rainy week intervened, and we did get water in our kitchen. It took a while to get someone to call me back and that was frustrating because it damaged our kitchen ceiling. Ultimately, though, I did get a call, and the work was expedited to the following day. The roofers did the entire installation in one day and did a great job. The roof is beautiful, and we have many people stopping and looking at the wonderful work and superior materials. I know the company will honor their promise to pay for the damage to the kitchen. Once that is done, all is well. The experience wasn’t perfect, but it was as close as mother nature and shipping glitches allowed.

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Milwaukee

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Milwaukee often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Milwaukee may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Milwaukee, WI?

In Milwaukee, a quality metal roof commonly lasts 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically last 15–30 years. Milwaukee’s humid continental climate—cold, snowy winters and warm summers—is strongly influenced by Lake Michigan, producing higher humidity and lake-effect moisture that can accelerate corrosion and moss growth on some materials. Heavy seasonal snow (Milwaukee averages roughly 49 inches annually) and repeated freeze–thaw cycles add stress and potential for ice dams, which shorten the life of weaker roofing systems. That’s why homeowners often choose durable systems—metal resists snow load, freeze–thaw damage, and moisture better than asphalt. Interlock Metal Roofing uses heavy-gauge aluminum and carries a lifetime-limited 50-year transferable warranty, offering long-term protection suited to Milwaukee’s specific conditions.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Milwaukee, WI?

Metal roofing in Milwaukee, WI typically costs more upfront than asphalt shingles. Final price depends on roof size, pitch, complexity (ridges, valleys, dormers), tear‑off and disposal, flashing and skylight work, and labor rates. Local construction factors — including seasonal installation constraints, permitting, material availability, and regional labor costs — can also influence bids in the Milwaukee area. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value rather than initial price: metal roofs often carry longer warranties and greater durability, which can lower future repair and replacement expenses compared with lower‑cost systems. Durable roofing systems may reduce maintenance needs, insurance impacts, and total cost of ownership over decades. Interlock Metal Roofing focuses on long‑term ownership value and system performance rather than competing solely as the lowest‑cost roofing option.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Milwaukee home?

Milwaukee’s humid continental climate brings cold, snowy winters, wide temperature swings and frequent freeze–thaw cycles—factors that stress roofing materials. Lake Michigan also increases humidity and wind-driven precipitation locally. Lifespan: metal roofs typically last 40–70 years; asphalt shingles 15–30 years. Maintenance: metal needs occasional seal/fastener checks; asphalt requires periodic shingle replacement and inspection for granule loss or ice-damage. Durability: metal resists snow, ice, wind and freeze–thaw better and sheds snow; asphalt can oxidize and lift under repeated freeze cycles. Long-term value: higher upfront cost for metal is often offset by lower lifecycle costs, fewer replacements and higher resale value. Homeowners who prioritize durability and long-term protection—especially near the lake or in neighborhoods with heavy winter loads—often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal to those buyers by combining robust, long-lasting performance with strong architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Milwaukee?

In Milwaukee, WI, this is a common myth: modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking do not sound like barn roofs. Unlike thin, exposed agricultural metal, contemporary metal roofing is fastened over sheathing, underlayment, and often insulation or an attic cavity, all of which dampen rainfall noise. The roof assembly—decking, underlayment, insulation—and available attic space influence perceived sound, and proper fastening and workmanship are critical to avoid rattling. When installed correctly, metal roofs are typically similar in sound to asphalt or tile roofs during rain. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete roofing systems designed specifically for residential homes, incorporating components that reduce noise and deliver consistent performance.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Milwaukee?

Metal roofing can be energy efficient in Milwaukee because reflective coatings reduce solar heat gain during warm months, lowering cooling loads. Overall energy performance also depends on the roof assembly—underlayment, insulation levels and continuous air sealing—and on ventilation that removes trapped heat and moisture. Milwaukee’s climate (cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers) means reflectivity helps summer comfort while proper insulation and ventilation are critical to retain heat, prevent ice dams and maintain efficiency in winter. Homeowners consider energy efficiency when replacing a roof to reduce utility bills, improve year‑round comfort, avoid moisture problems, qualify for rebates and increase resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance, addressing reflectivity, assembly compatibility and durable ventilation solutions.

How does metal roofing in Milwaukee, WI withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

Milwaukee experiences severe storms, tornado risk, heavy snow and summertime hail and damaging wind that can harm roofs. Hail and strong gusts are common storm hazards that drive roof damage and dents. Metal roofing performs well in wind (interlocking panels and correct fastening resist uplift), sheds snow, and limits water intrusion during storms; large hail can dent thinner panels depending on gauge and finish. Performance depends on roofing system design (profile, gauge, coatings, underlayment), installation quality (fastening, flashing, sealants), and material durability (alloy, thickness, finish). Homeowners consider weather resilience to reduce leaks, repair and insurance costs, and extend roof life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection, and wind resistance to address Milwaukee’s severe-weather exposures.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Milwaukee's wet climate?

In Milwaukee, WI, metal roofing performance depends on the base metal—steel, copper, and aluminum age and resist corrosion differently. Some metals form protective oxide layers or receive coatings that slow rust; others require more maintenance. Aluminum performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments because it naturally resists rust and forms a stable oxide barrier. Homeowners should consider corrosion resistance to protect structural integrity, avoid staining, reduce maintenance and replacement costs, and preserve resale value in a climate with snow, freeze–thaw cycles, and road salt. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection. Durability counts.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Milwaukee?

Metal roofing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is generally considered a low-maintenance, durable option for local weather. Still, no roof is completely maintenance-free; homeowners should perform periodic inspections, after storms and at least seasonally, to spot issues early. Clear leaves and branches, keep gutters free of debris, and check flashing, sealants, fasteners and penetrations (vents, chimneys, skylights) for gaps or corrosion. Inspect for loose panels, damaged coatings, or accumulating snow and ice that can affect performance. After severe weather events, examine the roof for dents or displaced components. With routine checks and prompt minor repairs, a metal roof offers long life and reliable protection in Milwaukee’s freeze-thaw and storm conditions.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Milwaukee?

In Milwaukee, WI, a metal roof can increase home value because buyers often prioritize durable, low‑maintenance roofs that reduce future repair concerns. Premium roofing materials also enhance curb appeal, helping homes stand out in competitive neighborhoods. A proven long lifespan boosts buyer confidence by lowering perceived lifecycle costs. Neighborhood architectural style matters—metal works best when profiles complement nearby homes and local character. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles (slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam) available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, combining performance with premium appearance. Consult a Milwaukee real estate agent for local market specifics.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Milwaukee?

Yes. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar panels when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing - Midwest. In Milwaukee, heavy annual snowfall (≈48.7 in/year) and frequent freeze–thaw/lake‑effect cycles increase snow loads and ice‑dam risk, so durable attachments and roof integrity matter. Because roof lifespan matters—solar panels often outlast roofs—choosing long‑lasting materials like Interlock metal helps avoid panel removal later. Homeowners should plan for future solar when replacing a roof; Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and designed to support engineered, snow‑rated mounting solutions.
