The start was alittle slow with only having 1 or 2 guys on site to start roofing that first week. Then 2nd week had more guys. Possibly rushed alittle in areas? My have been the cause of not doing a certain section of roofline properly.

Review: November 26, 2019 Completion: November 4, 2019

Delivery of materials was a disaster and did not go as it should have. The garbage bin was placed in an odd position (not where Mike had said) which made parking difficult for a couple weeks. Removal of all items at the end of the job instead of leaving plywood at the jobsite would have been nice. Finally I've been finding little aluminum pieces and styrofoam bits around the yard all over.It would have been better if we had gotten more information about the delivery before it came. We were told one date (and it didn't happen). We were told a different day and it was late. When the delivery driver did come we were asked to help move the load as he couldn't move it himself and weren't informed that we should not have helped as things were put in the wrong place and it damaged my vehicle in the garage. A simple "the driver will be responsible for delivery and proper placement of materials" and "materials stolen from jobsite will be Interlock's responsibility" would have made our lives so much easier in the long run. A final inspection by Mike (or other person from Interlock directly) along with us would have been nice. We had a friend come inspect the roof and found deficiencies which made things take longer and it would have been nicer if a final inspection with the company was included.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Abbotsford

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Abbotsford.

Will a metal roof handle Abbotsford's snow and ice buildup?

Yes—aluminum's smooth interlocking surface sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt. Abbotsford averages about 35 cm of snow annually across roughly 34 freeze-thaw cycles, conditions that cause ice dams on shingles but not on properly installed metal roofs. The four-way interlocking panels lock moisture out at seams, and the light weight (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural reinforcement needed even if snow temporarily accumulates. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof-to-ground melt deliberately.

How does metal roofing handle Abbotsford's heavy rainfall?

Abbotsford's 1196 mm of annual rainfall demands impeccable water-shedding, and metal roofing delivers it through interlocking seams that direct water downward, not inward. Interlock's four-way panels overlap and lock vertically and horizontally, eliminating the exposed nail holes and adhesive-reliant seams that trap water in shingles. The system is backed by ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 and covered under the Guardian Warranty against water intrusion. Over 1196 mm of rain per year, this overlap-and-lock design prevents the slow leaks asphalt develops at seams after year 10–15.

Can metal roofing resist Abbotsford's wind gusts?

Absolutely. The region sees typical gusts up to 117 km/h, and Interlock's panels are engineered to handle more—the warranty covers wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors both vertically and horizontally, creating a unified surface that resists uplift and edge flutter. In maritime climates like yours, this interlocking method outperforms nailed-down shingles, which can peel or lift at edges under sustained gust cycles.

Will a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers reflective finishes rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). These coatings reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering roof surface temperature by 30–50°F on sunny days. Abbotsford receives about 3005 sunshine hours annually, making summer solar gain a real cost factor; a reflective metal roof reduces HVAC load and cooling costs over the roof's lifetime while maintaining Class A fire rating and meeting CALGreen efficiency benchmarks.

Why does aluminum roofing resist rust better than steel in coastal climates?

Aluminum contains no iron—rust is iron oxide, and it cannot form in pure aluminum. Instead, aluminum naturally develops a thin oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, protecting the base metal from salt air and moisture indefinitely. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209) and applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel, adding 30 years of warranty protection against chalking and fading. Metro Vancouver's salt-air exposure is severe; aluminum is the only structural roofing material that stops corrosion at its source rather than relying on coatings alone.

Can an older Abbotsford home's framing handle a metal roof?

Almost certainly, because metal roofing is extraordinarily lightweight. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile—which replicates heavy clay or concrete tile—installs at just 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than the material it mimics. This means no structural reinforcement is needed, and the system installs directly over most existing roofs, saving you the cost and mess of a tear-off. Even an older home with 1196 mm of annual rainfall and 35 cm of snow loading can safely support aluminum roofing without joist or rafter upgrades.

Does hail damage metal roofing, and will my insurance notice?

Interlock roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty covers even perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Abbotsford's 34 annual freeze-thaw cycles suggest moisture stress but not extreme hail frequency; however, the Class 4 rating means your roof is physically tougher than asphalt or wood. Many insurers offer premium discounts for Class 4-rated roofs because claims history shows dramatically lower loss ratios. Check with your carrier—the impact rating and non-combustible classification (aluminum contains no fuel) often qualify you for reductions.

Is aluminum roofing actually recyclable, or is it marketing?

It is genuinely recyclable—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable by mass, and Interlock panels manufactured since 1998 in Delta, BC use recycled-content feedstock. At end-of-life, the metal is worth recovery; scrap aluminum markets ensure recycling happens. By contrast, asphalt shingles are not easily recyclable and generate hundreds of thousands of tons of landfill waste annually. Over Abbotsford's 1196 mm of rain and 35 cm of snow, an asphalt roof typically needs replacement every 15–20 years, multiplying waste; aluminum eliminates that tear-off cycle for the original owner and the next (warranty transfers once, lasting 50 years from completion).

How long does a metal roof really last, and what does the warranty cover?

Interlock's Guardian Warranty provides a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a 50-year bridge that asphalt cannot match. Aluminum does not rot or rust in any climate, including Abbotsford's 1196 mm annual rain and salt-air exposure. The Alunar coating is separately warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. The result: one roof purchase covers you and the next owner completely, turning metal roofing into the final roof.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Abbotsford, and how long does it take?

Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served the region since 1983 and is your local installer. Installation timelines depend on roof size and complexity but typically run 3–7 days for a residential home; since panels install over existing roofs in most cases, you avoid the 1–2 day tear-off delay asphalt requires. The crew manages water shedding during wet weather (Abbotsford receives rain about 150 days per year) by staging and sealing sections. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2499 on your installation. Contact the local team for a site evaluation and timeline specific to your home.
