Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Chilliwack, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I think Interlock Roofing can improve on their communication, but other than that everything else was great. I didn't hear from them for a few weeks from when they were supposed to start working. I work from home, so it was okay because I am flexible, but may not be okay for others.
Fix any issues while the crew is installing the roof......once they are gone its hard to rectify any problems. Not pleased with look of the job above our garage door. Even had neighbours commented on it. Still waiting to have our damaged cutters fixed. Not pleased that different ridge covers were installed than promised. We would still like above our garage door properly addressed.
With the weather that we had at the time of the job, they did a phenomenal job. I can't think of anything they would need to improve on. They had to work around the weather, and they did their best even in the pouring rain.
We wish the price was lower, but we love the product.
They did very well.
Improved sales team. Zero communication post sale and didn't do a thorough job during site visit. They also adjusted the contract after it was signed.
I am at work and we didn't get the product from Interlock Roofing, because it was very expensive.
Still debating what we are going to do. Move stay reno or what. Thanks

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Chilliwack
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Chilliwack.
How does a metal roof handle Chilliwack's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers less friction for accumulation. Chilliwack receives about 90 cm of snow annually across roughly 50 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that soften asphalt but don't compromise aluminum's structural integrity. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels stay watertight through freeze-thaw cycling because the aluminum alloy (3105-H24) doesn't absorb moisture, crack, or become brittle in cold. Snow guards can be added where code requires, and the lightweight design means your framing never bears the extra strain of heavy tile or slate equivalents.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Chilliwack damage a metal roof?
No—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw environments because it expands and contracts uniformly without losing strength or developing cracks. Unlike asphalt shingles, which stiffen and split after repeated freezing, or wood shakes, which absorb moisture and rot, Interlock's roofing-grade aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 certified) remains stable year after year through Chilliwack's average 50 annual freeze-thaw days. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading—it won't degrade from temperature swings. The interlocking design also means no fasteners working loose as the material moves, keeping your roof watertight through every season.
Can a metal roof handle Chilliwack's heavy rainfall?
Yes—Chilliwack's annual rainfall of about 1489 mm is substantial, but metal roofs shed water faster than any other material. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels are engineered so water flows downward and outward without pooling; each panel overlaps its neighbors in two directions, meaning leaks have to travel uphill to penetrate. When installed over a solid deck and ice-and-water underlayment (per ESR-1790 specifications), the system performs like asphalt in rain but without the deterioration asphalt suffers. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd., has weathered the Lower Mainland's wet climate for over 40 years.
Will Chilliwack's wind and gusts damage a metal roof?
Chilliwack's typical gusts reach 133 km/h—a serious wind climate—but Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking panels lock each sheet to its neighbors on all sides, creating a unified, wind-resistant assembly rather than overlapped shingles that can lift. There are no loose edges or nail-pop vulnerabilities that plague asphalt in high wind. The aluminum alloy's light weight (Shingle profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means even sustained gusts create minimal upward force, reducing mechanical stress on fasteners and framing compared to slate or concrete tile.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust in Chilliwack's wet climate?
No. Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes to form rust. What aluminum develops is a thin, invisible oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath; when scratched, this layer self-heals in air. Chilliwack's wet, 1489 mm rainfall annually and freeze-thaw cycles don't penetrate aluminum the way they corrode steel roofing. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 certified), and applies the Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish to both sides of every panel for additional salt and moisture resistance. Steel roofing requires ongoing maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum does not.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?
Interlock metal roofing requires minimal maintenance—typically just occasional gutter cleaning, far less than asphalt shingles, cedar shakes, or concrete tile. Asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years and shed granules into gutters; shakes need regular treatment to resist rot and insect damage; tile requires resealing. Aluminum won't rot, split, curl, or lose impact resistance (covered by the Guardian Warranty). Chilliwack's 1489 mm annual rainfall means debris can accumulate, but the smooth metal surface is quick to rinse clean. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is self-maintaining—no re-coating, no chemical treatments. When your roof is also your last roof, low maintenance saves thousands over decades.
Does metal roofing help with hail damage and insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Chilliwack's hail risk is lower than prairie regions, the durability may qualify you for insurance discounts depending on your provider's underwriting. More importantly, a Class 4-rated roof proves your home is protected against the unexpected; insurers recognize this. Asphalt shingles typically achieve Class 1 or 2 and fail under severe hail; metal roofing offers peace of mind that a single storm won't trigger a costly replacement claim. Check with your insurer about discounts when you upgrade to a documented Class 4 system.
Why does aluminum's lightweight matter for my home?
Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—roughly 96% lighter than genuine concrete or clay tile—so your existing framing can support it without costly structural reinforcement. Most homes can install over their current roof, saving thousands in labor and disposal costs. Slate and genuine tile demand stronger roof trusses, often requiring engineering assessment and structural upgrades; aluminum eliminates that. Chilliwack's homes vary in age and construction, but the lightweight advantage means nearly every property qualifies for installation without surprise expenses. Your contractor can inspect and confirm during the free site visit; with lighter roofing, structural surprises almost never happen.
Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable; at end of life, the entire roof can be melted down and reformed into new products indefinitely. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are torn off every 15–20 years and sent to landfills—millions of tons annually across North America, with no recovery path. Over Chilliwack's wet, freeze-thaw climate, an asphalt roof typically lasts 12–18 years, meaning three or four tear-offs per century. Choosing a roof that lasts a lifetime (Guardian Warranty non-prorated for the original owner, 50-year transfer term) ends that landfill cycle. The aluminum itself is manufactured in Delta, BC, reducing transportation emissions. A long-lasting, recyclable roof is the environmentally responsible choice.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?
Yes. While metal roofing costs more initially than asphalt, you're buying your last roof. Asphalt costs less up front but needs replacement every 12–18 years in Chilliwack's 1489 mm rainfall and freeze-thaw climate; a typical homeowner replaces it three to four times in a lifetime, paying installers repeatedly and disposing of landfill waste each time. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime non-prorated for the original owner and one-time transferable (50 years to the next owner), eliminating replacement expense. Metal also qualifies for insurance discounts, may reduce cooling costs in energy-efficiency colors, and adds resale appeal. Over 50 years, the total cost of ownership—material, labor, and replacement cycles—strongly favors metal roofing.
