Review: August 14, 2024Completion: August 12, 2024

Interlock is the best roofing available in our opinion and now have had it installed on our second home. Our 1st home had the shingles installed in 2009, and helped sell the home in 2021, as they looked identical to when installed, had no issues and had the transferable 50 year warranty for the second owner. We just got our new house fitted with interlock roofing, as our original (40 year warranty asphalt shingles) were deemed uninsurable (at 23 years old) when trying to get insurance and recently started leaking. Now to the new interlock roof and the customer service. The team is amazing, and professional, they got our roof on, were available to answer any questions, and ensured we were 100%.satisfied before the team left and final payment was made. Decision for the roof was mainly due previous satisfaction, but we also loved knowing we don’t have annual costs/work in the future for things such as moss removal. The roof great for wind, hail and fire rating as well with is a bonus in the Okanagan.

solid work. Quick and clean. No big mess. Engageable workers. a walk around after the job. I was away. Wife was there though. Could have resolved my minor concerns rapidly at the time of installation. by far the most prompt and efficient team I contacted for a new roof. By a long shot. The only thing keeping the masses from aluminum roofs (rooves?!) is the price. The final look and color is exactly what we were looking for. We also look for high quality and believe this to be present in this roof. Time will tell re: longevity of the roof wrt color fade, wind damage, hail damage or whatever.

Roofing material sat in my driveway for 2 months prior to install - taking up one of my parking spots. I don’t think that Intetlock should sell roofing in geographic areas where they don’t have an installation team located. My installers came from Calgary which is likely why I had to wait so long for the installation.

I wasn't aware two vents were going to be plugged and roofed over until it was done. UNLESS Randall had explained that and I had forgotten. The roadway advertising sign is at the top of my driveway if you want to re-use it.

Overall , I am very satisfied with my new roof. It only took a week to complete. Mike the installer did a very nice job , with as little disruption as possible. I am happy to say that I will not have to worry about my roof again. I was very satisfied with the project in it's entirety. Very satisfied

Review: March 26, 2026Completion: February 10, 2026

I like the product and the installation features over standing seam roofing for this application. There was never any third party quality assurance process to check on the installers work as he was working alone with a helper. Is this installed as per the recommendations of the manufacturer - I really cannot comment on that and neither can the sales person. All I have is a warranty piece of paper.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ellison

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Ellison, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Ellison.

How does a metal roof handle Ellison's snow load and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth surface and thermal properties help shed snow rather than trap it, reducing ice dam risk during Ellison's roughly 84 freeze-thaw days per year. The interlocking four-way panel design resists water infiltration when snow melts and refreezes. Aluminum expands and contracts differently than asphalt or wood, but the Alunar coating protects against corrosion damage during these seasonal transitions. Snow guards are available if you want to retain snow for insulation or manage runoff direction.

Why can't an aluminum roof rust, and does that matter in the Okanagan?

Aluminum contains no iron, so rusting is chemically impossible. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that automatically seals scratches and exposure. In Ellison's 335 mm annual rainfall and variable humidity, this passive defense outlasts steel, which corrodes regardless of coatings. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both panel sides, adding 30 years of color and fade warranty (ASTM D4214 / D2244). You're protecting against coating wear, not material failure—a fundamental difference over a 50-year home ownership.

Does freeze-thaw cycling damage metal roofing in climates like Ellison?

Aluminum's high thermal conductivity and non-porous structure mean water doesn't penetrate and freeze inside the material itself. Ellison experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days annually, but since water doesn't lodge in aluminum panels the way it does in wood shake or porous asphalt, cracking and splitting don't occur. The interlocking seams prevent meltwater from seeping behind panels during spring thaw. The Guardian warranty covers cracking and splitting—claims almost never filed on aluminum, unlike traditional materials in regions with this freeze-thaw frequency.

Can my existing roof frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?

Interlock metal roofing weighs 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—the Mediterranean Tile is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. Most Ellison homes built to code can support this load without reinforcement. Installation often happens over existing asphalt or wood shingles, saving tear-off labor and disposal costs. An ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) confirms compliance with IBC/IRC standards. Your installer will confirm your specific structure, but the exceptional lightness of aluminum typically eliminates the framing upgrades that slate or tile would require.

What hail protection does a metal roof offer, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum construction may qualify you for insurance discounts in some provinces; contact your broker with the ICC-ES ESR-1790 report and UL listing details. While Ellison's climate records don't show severe hail as a primary concern, the durability and impact resistance provide peace of mind and potential premium reductions that asphalt or wood cannot match.

Will a metal roof keep my Ellison home cooler and lower energy bills?

energy-efficient colors with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and solar reflectance to 0.55 reflect heat that asphalt shingles absorb, reducing cooling load in summer. Over Ellison's 3283 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance advantage compounds, especially on south-facing slopes. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings document measurable temperature reduction. Winter benefit varies with your heating system, but the reflective finish won't undermine solar gain through windows. Long-term energy modeling shows modest but real savings in this sunny, temperate climate—a secondary benefit to durability and cost-of-ownership.

What's the actual lifespan of a metal roof, and is the warranty worth the claim?

Aluminum roofing installed since 1998 (Interlock's founding) at Antarctic research stations, coastal salt-air homes, and across North America shows 25+ years of field performance with minimal coating wear. The Guardian warranty is non-prorated lifetime limited material coverage for the original owner, then one-time transferable at 50 years from installation for the next owner—an unusual commitment. Coverage includes rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. In Ellison's moderate climate with 109 cm annual snowfall, no rust mechanism, and quality installation, warranty claims are exceedingly rare. This is the only roof you need to buy.

How long does metal roof installation take, and can it go over my existing shingles?

Installation timeline varies with roof size and weather; most Ellison homes complete in 3 to 7 days. The interlocking panel design fastens directly to your existing roof structure or over asphalt shingles, eliminating tear-off labor, debris hauling, and landfill fees. This over-roof approach reduces total project cost and minimizes weather exposure. Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. has served the region since 1983 and handles permitting, inspections, and coordination. Your installer will confirm your specific roof's suitability; nearly all standard residential structures qualify.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing ends the asphalt shingle cycle: no tear-off, no landfill, no repeat replacement every 15–20 years. Interlock aluminum panels are approximately 95% recyclable at end of life—far higher recovery than fiberglass asphalt. Over Ellison's 335 mm annual rainfall and 84 freeze-thaw days, durability directly reduces waste. CALGreen verification documents maintenance reduction and resource efficiency. A 50-year lifespan across one or two homeowners means one installation environmental footprint, not three. If environmental impact matters to you, the math heavily favors metal over asphalt's perpetual landfill loop.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt over 30 or 50 years?

Asphalt costs less initially but requires replacement every 15–20 years; metal's higher first cost is recovered over the roof's life through zero re-roofing, lower maintenance, potential energy savings, and insurance discounts. A 50-year scenario typically shows metal 20–40% cheaper per year. Interlock's current promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 savings on installation. The Guardian's non-prorated lifetime warranty and transferability to the next owner add resale value. In Ellison's moderate climate with manageable snow and wind loads, metal roofing becomes the financially rational last roof, not a luxury choice.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Ellison’s climate?

Yes. Ellison averages about 109 cm of snow, 335 mm of rain, roughly 84 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 79 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
