What our customers are saying:
We ordered this roof because of the amount of debris that tends to collect on our formerly shake roof, and the difficulty of cleaning it, as needles accumulated in the space between the shakes and were difficult to dislodge. This new roof is relatively smooth and should be easier to keep clean (time will tell). Everything was as promised, appears to be good workmanship, was good communication and satisfactory in every way. Installers were friendly, cooperative and cleaned up thoroughly after each day's work. Took 2 1/2 weeks to complete but it is a big roof. Not cheap, though we wanted a good roof not a cheap roof. One small issue we didn't anticipate, but it is nobody's fault and doesn't reflect on the quality of the roof or workmanship. Because the roof is so smooth, snow collecting on the roof tends to slide down and accumulate beyond the eavestroughs. Then when it thaws, water drips down getting everything below it wet. Our covered patio used to be dry below but now we have to move furniture to keep it from getting soaked. We don't know if this will be a bigger problem when we get deeper snowfall on the roof.
see comments below. poor customer service better communications on start date for roof and not leaving materials sit in driveway for 6 weeks and then another 7 weeks to finish project we signed the contact on Feb 28,2022 with Mike Smith and was looking at a start time out of 4 to 6 weeks for the roof and then waited until July 22 before it was even started until finished 6 mouths later. poor customer service.
Everyone that we dealt with from the start was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. We never felt pressured to make a premature decision and follow up querstions were answered promptly with supporting research. No areas of improvement come to mind.
There are still metal clippings and aluminum nails around the property that I am cleaning up. It’s not a big deal but it is an area to improve on for future customers.
Everything was satisfactory from when Mike Smith showed up to when the boys finished up. It was a lengthy project but they got it done. We just love the product.
They communicated with me really well. There were a few times that they did not come and we did not know why.
When I agreed to have the work done, I wanted to do my shed on my own and just purchase the materials from Interlock and that didn't seem to be an available option. The only thing additionally I would like is to purchase the materials to do my shed, on my own, so it would match my home.
I would be embarrassed. Keep the schedule in a timely manner. It should not take a year to complete. I had to talk to General manager and he did his job.
Measurement estimates, gutter flasings fit and finish, room for improvement. Thank you!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Surrey
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Surrey, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Surrey.
Does a metal roof handle Surrey's winter snow and ice buildup?
Yes — the smooth aluminum surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles. Surrey receives about 57 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 38 freeze-thaw cycles each year, which accelerates asphalt degradation. Interlock's four-way interlocking panels shed meltwater cleanly, preventing the ice dams that trap moisture in traditional roofs. Optional snow guards can be installed if you want to control snow release on walkways. Aluminum's non-porous surface means no water absorption during freeze-thaw cycles, extending roof life in your climate.
With 1400+ mm of rain annually in Surrey, how does a metal roof stay leak-free?
The four-way interlocking system creates a continuous water-shedding surface that channels the ~1437 mm of annual rainfall off your roof immediately. Unlike asphalt, which absorbs moisture and degrades, aluminum panels overlap in four directions, eliminating the lap-leak vulnerability of single-seam designs. Water cannot pool between panels or penetrate the seams. When properly installed over solid deck and underlayment (as code ESR-1790 requires), the result is a moisture barrier that outperforms layered shingle systems. Surrey's wet climate makes this interlocking redundancy a genuine asset.
Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing in a damp climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element responsible for rust formation. Instead, aluminum naturally forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the underlying metal when exposed to air and moisture. On both sides of every Interlock panel, a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating adds 30-year protection against coastal salt-air degradation (warranted against chalking and fading per ASTM D4214). In Surrey's wet, freeze-thaw environment with 1437 mm annual rainfall, this means your roof will not corrode, pit, or deteriorate like steel would over decades. The coating warranty applies to both sides because coastal salt air and moisture exposure demand extra durability.
Can my roof frame support a metal roof, or do I need structural reinforcement?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only ~0.59 lb/sq ft — approximately 96% lighter than clay or concrete tile — while the Cedar Shingle profile weighs ~0.41 lb/sq ft. Most existing roofs can support this load without modification because it is comparable to or lighter than asphalt shingles. This means you can install Interlock directly over your existing roof in many cases, avoiding expensive tear-off and disposal costs. The lightweight aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 3105-H24) delivers slate, shake, and tile aesthetics without the structural burden those heavy materials impose, a genuine advantage in retrofit applications.
How does Interlock hold up to Surrey's wind gusts and storms?
The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Surrey's typical wind gusts reach about 114 km/h, well within this margin. The interlocking geometry — not fasteners alone — transfers wind load across the entire panel assembly, distributing stress rather than concentrating it at nail points as asphalt shingles do. This redundancy means each gust is resisted by multiple panel edges and mechanical locks, not by individual fasteners. The UL 2218 Class 4 hail impact rating is a byproduct of the same rigid construction that resists uplift. For a coastal region like Metro Vancouver with occasional intense wind events, this engineered redundancy provides real confidence.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of the roof?
Yes — the Guardian lifetime limited warranty for the original owner eliminates the repeat-replacement cycle of asphalt shingles (typically 15–20 years). Asphalt requires tear-off disposal (adding landfill waste and cost) every 15–20 years; Interlock lasts decades longer with no replacement. When you factor in 30-year coating warranty (ASTM D4214 fade and chalk protection), zero rust maintenance, and one-time transferability (50 years for the next owner), the total cost of ownership over 40–50 years favors metal. Current promotion: enjoy interest-free payments for 3 months and save at least $2499 on installation. This financing option reduces the perceived upfront burden while you benefit from the math of longevity.
What does the Guardian warranty actually cover and how long does it last?
The Guardian is a lifetime limited non-prorated material warranty for the original owner covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Non-prorated means claims are not reduced based on roof age — you receive full coverage for the life you own the home. The warranty transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from installation completion, adding significant resale value. Combined with the 30-year fluorocarbon coating warranty (ASTM D4214), you receive two overlapping protections: material integrity for life and coating color/gloss for 30 years. This dual-layer approach reflects Interlock's confidence in the aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) and manufacturing process, refined since 1998.
Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes — energy-efficient Interlock colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), meaning they reflect heat that asphalt absorbs. Reflective roofing reduces attic temperature and cooling load, particularly valuable when Surrey experiences about 2927 annual sunshine hours. The Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms this performance. Unlike dark asphalt, which converts sunlight to heat, metal with high reflectance sends that energy back to the sky. Over a 30-year roof life, this translates to measurable savings on summer air conditioning, especially during the warmer months when you're running cooling systems. Lighter colors (available across all five profiles) maximize this benefit.
How much maintenance does a metal roof really require?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt shingles (which curl, split, and lose granules in freeze-thaw cycles), wood shakes (which rot and require sealing), or tile (which cracks and requires mortar repointing), Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The non-porous aluminum surface does not absorb the 1437 mm of annual Surrey rainfall or degrade from the approximately 38 freeze-thaw days per year that damage traditional materials. No sealant reapplication, no granule replacement, no fungus treatment. Occasional gutter cleaning is standard for any roof, but the metal itself requires no seasonal upkeep. This maintenance-free profile makes metal roofing a practical choice for homeowners seeking durability without ongoing labor.
