Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Vancouver, British Columbia
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Fantastic service, clear & consistent communication, and a beautiful, durable product. Simply one of the best contractors we have ever worked with. We got quotes from numerous leading roofers for this job. Mike from Interlock was the only one who came to our house, spent an evening patiently explaining every aspect of the job, showed us many photos and described some of the technical aspects in ways that were easy to understand. When we called back with more questions, he was always available and always super helpful. For the installation, Mike recognized that we had an old house and were concerned about the workmanship. He sent us an experienced crew led by Oswaldo that went above and beyond any expectation we could have had. They not only protected our home but also took pains to protect the neighbors' homes beside ours. They gave us near daily briefings and showed us photos of everything they found on our roof and their work throughout. The job ended up taking much longer than anticipated because our roof had many problems that needed to be repaired. Oswaldo and Mike worked with us to make sure everything was taken care of and repaired before the new roofing was put on. They proved flexible and extremely diligent, communicating effectively throughout. We are thrilled with the result and grateful for all their hard work. We would not hesitate to use their services again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for roofers. As a bonus, we're delighted that we will never send another huge pile of asphalt shingles to the landfill again!
Definitely not the cheapest roof but looks good! The people worked hard during the hottest days of summer and cleaned up after the job was done! It rained heavily two days after the roof was finished! No concerns! Well done!
I would suggest the sales team advise potential clients that even in a climate like Vancouver, due to the slickness of the roofing material that would be advisable to install snow guards. If the home is in close proximity to another dwelling.
Start date verbally agreed upon was not honoured.
None at this time. Great overall experience with the entire Interlock team.
I would recommend Interlock Roofing because their product works fine. I think they need to manage the schedule better because on our project sometimes they missed days but they would call us. I had a good experience because Interlock Roofing finished before their deadline.
Interlock Roofing could improve on communication with the office staff and with the installation crew.
Absolutely would recommend their products & installation. Was a great pleasure to work with the whole team - from sales to installation Great experience working with Interlock - the entire crew was fantastic
Roof looks great but it is an expensive investment. A supervisor visiting on site more often and better clean-up. Overall, we think the new roof is wonderful. We have noticed cooler temperatures this summer which is a pleasant surprise. The garbage left behind for several days after completion was not acceptable. The mess attracted rodents and smelled terrible.
Working schedule for 3rd party contractors that Interlock brings in for some of the job requirements. Thank you to the whole team at Interlock for a job well done. We love our roof and the snow guards:), Everything looks amazing. Looking forward to the next project with you all.
None
Absolutely. The only thing Interlock Roofing could improve on for our experience is the clean afterwards. Need to find a better way to get the majority of the little metal pieces that are all over the ground.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Vancouver
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Vancouver, British Columbia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Vancouver.
Can a metal roof rust in Vancouver's wet climate?
No. Interlock roofs use roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, providing inherent corrosion resistance without ongoing maintenance. With Vancouver averaging 2471 mm of rain annually and coastal salt-air exposure, this non-rusting property is a critical advantage over steel, which requires continuous coating vigilance. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both panel sides adds 30-year protection against chalking and fading, measured to ASTM standards, ensuring your roof's finish lasts as long as its structure.
How does a metal roof handle Vancouver's snow and ice buildup?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt due to their smooth, hard surface and low friction. Vancouver receives about 152 cm of snow per year across roughly 37 freeze–thaw cycles, conditions that crack and curl asphalt shingles but leave aluminum unaffected. The four-way interlocking panels lock together tightly, preventing water infiltration even when ice dams form. Snow guards can be added if you want to control roof-to-ground snow release. Aluminum's rigidity and lack of expansion-contraction issues make it genuinely superior in your climate's repeated freeze cycles.
Will a metal roof leak during Vancouver's heavy rainy seasons?
Heavy, sustained rainfall is where four-way interlocking shines. Vancouver's 2471 mm annual rainfall puts constant stress on roof seams and fasteners—traditional vulnerabilities in asphalt and even some metal systems. Interlock's locking mechanism creates a labyrinth that sheds water across multiple panel edges before it reaches any fastener. Combined with proper underlayment and solid deck installation, this design resists leak initiation far more reliably than nailed shingles that separate and curl over 2788 sunshine hours and countless wet days. Each interlocking point is engineered to shed water, not trap it.
Is a metal roof safe in Vancouver's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Vancouver's typical gusts reach about 95 km/h, well within this rating. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all edges, distributing wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating force on individual fasteners. This is fundamentally different from shingle systems, where high gusts can lift and separate edges. Even winter storms that approach your region's gust limits will not compromise an Interlock installation.
Can my house's framing support a metal tile roof?
Almost certainly yes, even without structural reinforcement. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile installs at only 0.59 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This exceptional lightness means no costly beam upgrades in most homes. By contrast, traditional tile demands expensive structural analysis and reinforcement. You can even install Interlock Tile over your existing asphalt roof without removing it, saving thousands in tear-off labor and landfill disposal. The Slate profile is lighter still at 0.41 lb/sq ft. Your house was almost certainly not engineered for heavy tile, but it is engineered for Interlock.
What metal roofing profiles does Interlock offer in Vancouver?
Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam. Each replicates the texture and shadow lines of its namesake material in genuine aluminum. Slate mimics quarried stone, Cedar Shingle captures the dimensional look of hand-split wood, Shake offers a rougher grain, Mediterranean Tile echoes clay barrel profiles, and Standing Seam delivers clean contemporary lines. All five are available in multiple colors, all ICC-ES evaluated (ESR-1790), and all non-combustible options qualify for Class A fire rating. Your choice of style doesn't compromise durability or warranty—only aesthetics shift.
How much maintenance does an aluminum metal roof really need?
Minimal. Asphalt shingles require regular inspection for curling, cracking, and moss growth; wood shakes split and rot; tile cracks under freeze-thaw stress. Aluminum resists all three. Vancouver's 37 annual freeze–thaw cycles will never crack Interlock panels, and the non-combustible aluminum surface doesn't harbor moss or mold like asphalt does. An occasional rinse after heavy rain or pollen season maintains appearance. The Alunar finish is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance requirements. Over a 50-year roof life, you'll spend far less time and money on repairs than any traditional material.
What warranty comes with an Interlock metal roof?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the failures that plague asphalt, wood, and concrete tile over decades. You also receive a one-time transferable warranty: the next owner is protected for 50 years from completion. This dual-owner protection reflects Interlock's confidence in longevity. Coupled with the 30-year Alunar coating warranty and UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, you're buying the last roof you'll install, plus peace of mind for whoever buys your home after.
Are metal roofs fire-safe for Vancouver homes?
Yes. Aluminum is non-combustible and cannot ignite or contribute fuel to a fire. Interlock offers Class A fire rating on all profiles—the highest available—when ordered in non-combustible specification. This is a decisive advantage over asphalt shingles, which are combustible and vulnerable to flying embers in wildfire zones. While Vancouver's urban climate is lower-risk than interior regions, Class A rating reduces insurance premiums and provides absolute certainty your roof won't accelerate fire spread. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms this rating across all approved applications.
