Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Fundy Shores, New Brunswick
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Yes I would recommend. Increased communication by the crew to the home owner regarding progress, schedule based on weather. More attention to clean up. Although our experience was not perfect, we are very very happy with our roof. It looks amazing.
I don't think there is an area that could be improved on. They were very good and very helpful. I am very pleased with the quality of the material and workmanship.
When Greg was here, we agreed upon the installation date and time. The installers did not arrive on time, but this was not a big inconvenience for me. Greg could have updated me and kept in contact with me more during the course of the installation.
Product not as authentic looking as other imitation slate shingles product on the market. Interlok product too shiny and slippery looking. Salesperson said they use local crews for installing. Our crew came from Moncton, 2-3 hrs. drive away. Resulted in shortened workday and delays to the installation. Punctuality, problem resolution, safety.
Installation was 3 months behind schedule.I feel questions 6,7,9 and 10 would be better asked in future....difficult to answer so soon after installation.
Great roof and good people. Delivery promises were never met. Not even close. You should have given and met more realist completion dates. Model of fewer installation teams results in delays, unnecessary travel and inefficient use of your teams. You should consider more local expert installation teams. This would be safer and more respectful of customers and your installation teams.
At the veery end a few nails came off the roof but they cleaned it right away. They were in the gutters and didn't come out until it rained.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Fundy Shores
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Fundy Shores, New Brunswick. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Fundy Shores.
Will a metal roof handle Fundy Shores' freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or deteriorating?
Yes—aluminum's non-porous structure is immune to freeze-thaw damage that degrades asphalt and wood. Fundy Shores experiences about 86 freeze-thaw days per year, plus 149 cm of snow annually; traditional roofing absorbs meltwater, expands when it refreezes, and progressively delaminates. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) in Interlock panels simply doesn't absorb moisture, so the freeze-thaw cycle passes harmlessly through the material. Combined with the Alunar 70% PVDF coating, the panels remain intact through decades of Maritime winters without cracking, curling, or splitting—covered under the Guardian lifetime limited warranty.
How does a metal roof perform under heavy snow loads and ice dams in our region?
The weight of snow won't cause sagging or stress because Interlock panels weigh just 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than traditional clay or concrete tile. At Fundy Shores' annual 149 cm snow fall, the accumulated mass that would strain wood or heavier materials sits safely on your roof. The smooth interlocking aluminum surface also sheds ice and snow faster than textured asphalt, reducing the freeze-thaw-refreeze cycle that forms ice dams. Four-way interlocking seams prevent water intrusion if ice does back up. Snow guards can be added if desired for additional control.
Can a metal roof withstand Fundy Shores' coastal wind gusts?
Absolutely. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Fundy Shores' typical gusts reach 138 km/h, and the four-way interlocking edge design locks adjacent panels together—a single failure point is eliminated. The mechanical sealing of each interlocking edge, combined with proper fastening to the deck, distributes wind load across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating stress on individual shingles. This system design is verified in ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790, which covers the complete installation protocol, and is why the warranty explicitly covers wind damage.
How reliable is a metal roof during Fundy Shores' wet season with over 1200 mm of annual rainfall?
The four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water by design, never trapping it. Fundy Shores receives about 1266 mm of rainfall yearly; because Interlock's panel edges overlap and interlock, water is channeled downslope immediately—there is no flat surface where it can pool. Each panel locks to its neighbor on four sides, creating a labyrinth that forces any water breach back down and out. Combined with a solid substrate (many installations go directly over existing asphalt) and an underlayment, this mimics the deck+underlayment protection of asphalt while the interlocking geometry provides additional redundancy. The system is verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790 for residential weather exposure.
Does aluminum roofing rust in Fundy Shores' salty, wet climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—its oxide layer forms instantly when exposed to air and seals the metal underneath. If the oxide is scratched, it re-forms automatically, protecting the core alloy. Steel roofing, by contrast, corrodes progressively in salt-air and wet climates like Fundy Shores. The Interlock Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, and Standing Seam profiles all use roofing-grade 3105-H24 or 3003-H24 aluminum (ASTM B209), coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish. This dual-sided protection is critical in coastal regions where salt spray accelerates corrosion. The Guardian warranty covers rusting—because it simply won't happen.
What's the hail rating on a metal roof, and could it lower my insurance premium?
Interlock panels achieve UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation even from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible, impact-resistant rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts; contact your insurer with the UL 2218 Class 4 documentation and ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation report. The durability also means no hail damage repair costs that would otherwise raise future premiums. While Fundy Shores' climate focuses more on snow and wind than hail, the impact resistance adds long-term value—the roof won't need replacement after a severe weather event, and insurers recognize that lower-risk profile.
How long does installation take, and can you install over my existing roof?
Installation timeline depends on roof size and weather; your installer, Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd., will provide a precise schedule during the site visit. Most critically: yes, Interlock panels install directly over existing asphalt or wood roofing because they weigh just 0.41–0.58 lb/sq ft—about 96% lighter than slate or tile. No structural reinforcement is needed, and no tear-off costs or landfill fees apply. A solid substrate is required, so if decking is damaged it must be repaired, but the lightweight aluminum means you avoid the heavy equipment, labor cost, and timeline of full decking replacement that tile or slate demand. Maritime Metal Roofing has served the region since 2007 and handles the full process from inspection to warranty registration.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?
A metal roof is the last roof you'll buy. The Guardian lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner) means zero replacement cost during your ownership. Asphalt roofs require replacement every 20–25 years; the cumulative cost of two or three asphalt replacements, including tear-off and disposal, typically exceeds Interlock's installed price. Current regional promotion offers interest-free payments for 3 months and at least $2499 in savings. Factor in no maintenance (versus clearing debris from asphalt annually), no hail or wind damage repairs, and potential insurance discounts, and the break-even point falls within 15–20 years for most Fundy Shores homeowners—leaving decades of free protection.
What's the warranty on a metal roof, and does it transfer if I sell my home?
The Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner—non-prorated coverage for the entire material lifespan, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It is one-time transferable to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from the completion date. This dual-tiered structure reflects the product's durability: aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy (ASTM B209) with a 30-year Alunar 70% PVDF coating (tested per ASTM D4214 and D2244) simply outlasts traditional materials. If you sell, the transferable warranty becomes a selling point—buyers receive decades of protection without mystery about the roof's remaining life. Few roofing products offer this level of buyer confidence.
Can a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?
Yes. energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it the way dark asphalt does. Aged Copper Penny and other cool-finish options achieve solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing heat absorption that would otherwise raise indoor temperatures. While Fundy Shores averages about 2909 sunshine hours per year (modest compared to southern regions), summer comfort and reduced air-conditioning runtime still add up over decades. The Cool Roof Rating Council rating confirms this performance. Light-colored metal also radiates absorbed heat more efficiently than asphalt, so even on the 149 cm of snow doesn't melt as aggressively in spring, reducing ice dam formation during those critical freeze-thaw transitions. Energy savings compound annually.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Fundy Shores’s climate?
Yes. Fundy Shores averages about 149 cm of snow, 1266 mm of rain, roughly 86 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 138 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
