Review: January 13, 2026 Completion: March 8, 2009

We recently had extra snow guards added to our roof. The workers that showed up, were professional and dedicated, it was Saturday evening, they were all smiles and very polite.

Review: February 5, 2022 Completion: January 19, 2022

The materials used are of good quality and professionally installed. Very pleased with the completed work.

Review: December 11, 2020 Completion: November 17, 2020

I was happy to see that the work was done effectively, the installers were well-informed, courteous and did quality work. Very pleased! I had the dumpster in my driveway for 13 days which was rather inconvenient. I’m really satisfied with the look of the shingles, the workmanship and completion of the job. Looking forward to having more roofing done in the following year. I was wondering about the estimate that included the use of the dumpster since it had very little debris in it.

Review: December 10, 2018 Completion: November 28, 2018

1. John Amirault was good overall, but could not provide technical support to the online visual software2. The installation crew did not use fall protection, there was only one person working on my roof for the entire last week, they did not use a magnet to pick up loose nails after removing the old roof, There were numerous nails in my driveway. I had to call several times to confirm when they were showing up, I requested notification as to when they would be onsite Day 1 so I could meet them, and that did not happen. The bin used for the old roof blocked my driveway unnecessarily for weeks after it was no longer needed. When I asked the installation crew head for a business card so I could verify if he was an employee or subcontractor, he didn't have one. I had insurance coverage concerns as a result.3. Over a week after paying in full by bank draft, I am still awaiting the information whereby I can register my warranty.4. The installation crew took down eavestrough and did not re-install them. When my wife questioned it, Emmanuel said it wasn't part of the contract. This was pointed out to John A on November 30 and he said "he would look after it." It's been sitting on my walkway for weeks now. John was off and said he passed my concern on to Chris. I emailed again today and am waiting for some follow-up.5. Does anyone at Interlock follow-up on the installation crews???? Why Interlock would jeopardize a premium brand product with poor service execution is beyond me.

Review: March 30, 2016 Completion: February 22, 2016

Again, as long as that missing step gets completed I give this a 4. For now, I will say 3.6. It would have been if they had taken care of that one ommitted step, but they said they will take care of it.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Berwick

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Berwick, Nova Scotia. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Berwick.

Will a metal roof handle Nova Scotia's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle and cracks as it cycles through 83 freeze-thaw days per year, aluminum's oxide layer remains flexible across temperature swings. The four-way interlocking panels expand and contract uniformly without splitting or curling. Berwick's 187 cm annual snow and frequent temperature oscillations are exactly the kind of climate where a non-corrosive, dimensionally stable metal roof outlasts traditional materials by decades.

How does a metal roof perform under heavy snow loads?

Metal roofs shed snow efficiently because panels are smooth and slippery—snow doesn't accumulate as it does on asphalt. At just 0.41 to 0.59 lb per square foot (depending on profile), Interlock's aluminum weighs about 96% less than concrete or clay tile, so your existing roof structure handles the weight of both snow and panels without reinforcement. Berwick receives roughly 187 cm of snow annually, but the four-way interlocking system distributes that load evenly while the low mass keeps your home's frame safe.

Why is aluminum roofing better than steel in a coastal climate?

Aluminum simply cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes in moisture. Your roof's 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that seals against salt air, rain (Berwick averages 994 mm per year), and coastal humidity. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel for extra protection in salty environments. This combination means no rust stains, no corrosion weakening the material, and no premature failure in Nova Scotia's damp climate.

Can this roof withstand Berwick's winter gales?

Yes. The roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), well above Berwick's typical gusts of about 125 km/h. The four-way interlocking panels lock together on all sides, distributing uplift forces across the entire system rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. Combined with proper installation per ICC-ES ESR-1790 specifications, this design keeps your roof secure through the strongest Atlantic weather—giving you confidence during winter storms without monthly worry.

Does this metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock holds the highest impact rating available: UL 2218 Class 4, which covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. The warranty explicitly covers hail damage. Because aluminum roofs are impact-resistant and last 50+ years (vs. asphalt's 15–20), many insurers offer discounts—though your policy terms depend on your provider. In Berwick's climate with occasional severe weather, Class 4 impact protection gives you real security and a roof that won't need replacement after a single storm.

Is metal roofing worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Metal roofing is the last roof you'll buy. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require tear-off and landfill disposal every cycle; Interlock comes with a non-prorated lifetime limited warranty for the original owner and remains transferable for 50 years from completion. Over 50 years, you replace asphalt 2–3 times while maintaining one metal roof. Current regional promotion includes interest-free payments for 3 months and savings of at least $2,499 on installation. That spread narrows dramatically when you factor in zero replacements, minimal maintenance, and avoided labor costs.

How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?

Remarkably little. Unlike asphalt shingles (which degrade and need regular inspection), wood shake (which splits and rots), or tile (which cracks and breaks), Interlock aluminum requires only occasional gutter cleaning and a rinse after winter salt spray—that's it. The material doesn't rot, split, crack, or curl. Berwick's 994 mm annual rainfall naturally rinses buildup. The 30-year Alunar coating warranty (ASTM D4214/D2244) means your roof stays color-fast without re-coating. No fasteners loosen, no seams leak, no seasonal repairs—just a roof that performs.

Can you install this over my existing asphalt shingles?

Yes. Because Interlock weighs just 0.41–0.59 lb per square foot—about 96% lighter than concrete tile—it installs directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. No tear-off, no disposal, no weeks of disruption. Maritime Metal Roofing Ltd., serving the Annapolis Valley since 2007, will assess your current structure and timeline during a consultation. Installation is fast and clean. This advantage is enormous: you avoid the cost and landfill impact of removing old asphalt while gaining decades of durability in one step.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?

Substantially better. Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles are predominantly landfilled. Over 50 years in Berwick's wet climate, you'll send two or three asphalt roofs to the landfill while your one metal roof cycles through zero replacements and eventually recycles into new aluminum products. The manufacturing footprint and embodied energy are offset by the elimination of repeated tear-off, transport, and disposal. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance and environmental impact—you're not just choosing durability; you're choosing a circular material.

What style options look good on a Berwick home?

Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile, and Standing Seam—so you can match your home's character without compromise. Slate and Cedar Shingle suit classic Annapolis Valley architecture; Shake and Tile deliver high-end visual weight; Standing Seam reads modern and clean. Each profile uses the same durable aluminum core and four-way interlocking system. Choose the aesthetic that reflects your home, knowing the underlying material is non-rusting aluminum with a 30-year color warranty, so the look you select today remains authentic for decades in Berwick's salt-air and freeze-thaw environment.
