The installation crew that did the job was not impressive. I went up on the roof when they were done, and I had to call them back because it was a terrible job.

Review: October 14, 2020 Completion: September 18, 2020

they should have stopped the leak my roof was leaking when i called you, your metal roof look beautiful but my roof still leaks. your staff have now started to break their commitments to get it sorted. below is the email i sent to Derek. and despite visiting to repair twice it still leaks... Sunday August 23rd DerekKing gave us presentation and we agreed to the roof. August 24th withdrawalmade from RBC of $6042.70 CAD as a money order. Derek picked up payment that day and an attempt was made to find someone to measure the two skylights. We were unable to get someone to measure so Derek came to measure on Monday 31st August 2020. Derek took pictures of the both skylights and measured them both and gave a piece of paper with the measurements. That day the measurements were given to Rona and I was advised that the window guy was not in until the next day. Copy of measurements was taken and I was contacted the following day by Kelsey Lemire for confirmation of order. C04 for bathroom (as confirmed in email to Derek King) and M04 for kitchen. On 2 nd September 2020 email confirming skylights have been ordered with Rona, Cornwall sent and the skylights arrived in on 4th and were picked up on 5th September. $1361.65 has been paid out in total for the two skylights with flashing kits Skylights were installed on the 15th of September 2020, roof was completed on the 16th August 2020. Derek King called at 12.03pm September 18th 2020 to see how happy we were and I advised that it is beautiful (which it is). On the evening of the 29th September 2020 we had the first rain since the roof was installed. I noticed that there was a wet bubble on the kitchen ceiling, I took a picture and sent it to Derek King the next morning, along with a picture of the ceiling on Wednesday morning. At 08.25 am September 30th 2020I received a call off Mel Martin informing me that her husband John will be coming over to look at it. John arrived and was shown the kitchen leak and was also informed that there is water coming through the soffit near the front door. John went up onto the roof for approx. 15 min and when he came down he informed me that the skylight did not have seal between the glass and the frame and that he has now filled it. Mel Martin told me if there is any other issues then I should call her directly. Next rain – Saturday October 3rd 2020 we woke up to rain coming through the soffit and called Mel Martin at 8.07am, she didn’t answer so a message was left to inform her that it was leaking. We got no response and on Sunday (4thOctober 2020) evening an email was sent to Derek King informing him that the roof is still leaking and pictures of the roof beams soaking with rain water. Derek responded that he will send a man again and that he would “come by this week”. John came back and was on the roof for hours on Tuesday 6th October. As they were leaving we were told that if there is any issues to call them directly as John would like to see the leak as it rains. More rain came and on October the 7th at 12:11pm I called Mel Martin to inform her that the rain was pouring through the soffit. Mel said she will call me back and 12:17pm that day she called me and said that John will be over on Monday or Tuesday and would I prefer one of those days. I told her either one was fine with me. Monday arrived and nobody came, Tuesday arrived and nobody came. I am sat here with an expensive useless roof that leaks. I have had no contact from Derek King or John. I am not happy with my purchase and would like a full refund. $6,042.70 – Deposit for roof. $1,361.65 – 2 skylights with flashing kits. $18,111.10 – Remaining roof payment. Total spent of this roof = $25,515.45

Review: July 5, 2019 Completion: June 4, 2019

Keeping me informed of the delivery and information ahead of time, not just 24 hrs notice. The notice did not allow much time for me to prepare. I also asked several times to talk to the installers ahead of time. I had a few questions Dave Brown couldn’t answer about installation, but didn’t get a response. This is a big expensive job and I would have liked to know how it was going to be done and some of the procedures. All turned out quite well but it was more stressful than it had to be due to unanswered questions. Love my roof. Thanks much!

It's such a beautiful roof. We are very happy and very satisfied with the company and the way that they treated us. Everything was excellent! I will give them a very good reference and we have already told many people how happy we are with our roof. I also filled out another survey with all of my comments and sent it in that the roofer gave me.

Review: October 16, 2016 Completion: September 28, 2016

The roof originally was supposed to begin on Monday, Sept 12, 2016 but the job only started on Wednesday, Sept 14, 2016. We were under the impression that the roof would be finished by the weekend, but late Friday afternoon, we were told that it would only be finished the week after. One day, the workers had to stop early because they were waiting for supplies to be delivered that was only delivered the next day. In addition, the snow guards were installed and screwed on top of the roof contrary to the model installation diagram that was provided to us. We are concerned that this may be troublesome in the future. We had submitted these same comments along with our payment. No one has ever contacted us to discuss the issues that were indicated. We would appreciate if an Interlock professional would contact us.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cornwall

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cornwall, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cornwall.

Will a metal roof handle Cornwall's freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or degrading?

Yes. Aluminum expands and contracts with temperature swings, but it doesn't crack, rot, or split the way asphalt, wood, or concrete tile do. With about 81 freeze-thaw days per year in this region, material brittleness is a real problem for rigid roofing — but aluminum's flexibility absorbs that stress. The 3105-H24 alloy used in Interlock panels is engineered for exactly this: the oxide layer that forms on aluminum actually self-heals when scratched, so micro-fractures from thermal cycling don't propagate into leaks. Your roof stays watertight through decades of winters.

How does metal roofing handle the roughly 140 cm of snow Cornwall gets annually?

Aluminum's extreme lightness is the advantage here. Interlock panels weigh about 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile — roughly 96% lighter than slate or concrete tile — so your home's frame carries the snow load without needing structural reinforcement. The smooth, sloped surface also sheds snow and ice more predictably than asphalt. Optional snow guards can be installed to manage roof runoff if gutters or walkways are a concern. With annual snowfall around 140 cm, a traditional tile roof would demand expensive frame upgrades; aluminum avoids that cost entirely.

Does heavy rainfall cause leaks in metal roofing installed in Cornwall?

No, if installed correctly. The four-way interlocking panel design is the key: water runs across and down, never sideways into seams. When installed over solid decking and underlayment (as Interlock specifies), the system is as watertight as asphalt. Cornwall gets about 923 mm of rain annually plus roughly 140 cm of snow melt — that's a lot of water — but the overlap geometry and pitch shed it all. ICC-ES ESR-1790 certification confirms the system meets code for water infiltration. The real leak risk is poor installation or neglected gutters, not the material.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

When you do the math over 40+ years, yes. Asphalt fails every 15–20 years; you'll replace it twice or more, plus haul away tons of waste each time. Interlock comes with a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner and transfers 50 years to the next owner — you're buying your last roof. There's no tear-off cycle, no landfill cost, and negligible maintenance. Current regional promotion includes interest-free payments for 3 months and saves at least $2499 on installation. The cost-per-year over 50 years is actually lower than asphalt-every-15-years.

What maintenance does a metal roof require in a climate like Cornwall's?

Almost none. Unlike asphalt (which dries, cracks, and sheds granules), wood (which rots and splits), or tile (which breaks and stains), aluminum simply doesn't degrade. Gutters and downspouts need routine cleaning like any roof, and you should clear debris annually — but that's standard for every home. With about 2889 sunshine hours and 923 mm of rain yearly, weather exposure is constant, yet the Alunar fluorocarbon coating (30-year warranty against fading and chalking) means your roof color and finish remain stable. No sealant reapplication, no moss treatment, no shingle replacement. That's the real advantage.

Will hail damage hurt my roof, and could it lower insurance costs?

Interlock Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Tile, and Standing Seam profiles are all rated UL 2218 Class 4 — the highest hail impact rating available. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. In a region where wind gusts reach 88 km/h and severe weather happens, impact resistance matters. Some insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4 metal roofs; contact your agent with the UL rating documentation. The lightweight aluminum also means less stress on fasteners during impact, so the panels stay secured. Over a 40-year roof life, hail protection pays dividends.

Does a metal roof reduce cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock's reflective finishes achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84 — meaning they bounce heat back into the sky instead of absorbing it like asphalt does. On days with strong sun (Cornwall averages about 2889 sunshine hours per year), this prevents attic heat buildup and reduces air conditioning demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council has verified these properties. You won't see dramatic savings in a 8.1°C mean climate, but summer cooling bills noticeably drop, and the roof keeps your upper floors more comfortable during the warmest weeks.

How long does installation take, and do I have to tear off my old roof?

Installation typically takes 3–5 days depending on roof size and complexity. Because Interlock panels weigh 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft, they install directly over most existing asphalt, wood, or tile roofs without structural reinforcement — no expensive tear-off and hauling. Installers add solid decking and underlayment as needed, then fasten the interlocking panels. The lightweight design means faster work and lower labor costs than slate or concrete tile. Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served this region since 1998 and schedules around your timeline. Ask for a site visit; they'll assess your existing roof and give you exact timing before you commit.

Is a metal roof fire-resistant in case of a house fire or wildfire?

Aluminum is non-combustible — it will not ignite or spread flame. Interlock offers Class A fire rating across all profiles, and the material itself poses no fire load. In comparison, asphalt shingles are Class C (at best), wood shakes are typically unrated or low-rated, and tile is non-combustible but heavier. ICC-ES ESR-1790 confirms Interlock's fire performance against IBC and IRC code. If wildfire risk or building code fire resistance matters to you, aluminum delivers certainty. The roof itself becomes a defensible barrier rather than a fuel source — a meaningful safety advantage for your home.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Cornwall, Ontario?

Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has been the local installer for this region since 1998. They know East Ontario's climate — the roughly 923 mm rain, 140 cm snow, 81 freeze-thaw days, and 88 km/h wind gusts — and they've handled roofs in every condition. The company manufactures panels in Delta, BC and has installed roofs from salt-air coastal homes to Antarctic research stations, so a Cornwall home is well within their expertise. Current promotion: interest-free payments for 3 months and save at least $2499 on installation. Contact them directly for a no-obligation site assessment and timeline.
