Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Milton, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
None that I can propse
Tony (from the Interlock Roofing team) did a fantastic job on the quality and workmanship of our roof. We have the nicest roof on our street by far and look forward to its aesthetics and protection for many, many years! Very happy with quality of job, but here were the issues: 1. Installation dates moved up with minimal communication. 1. Job took 4 weeks to complete (only 1 installer available). Originally quoted 2 weeks completion. No explanation given but assumed short staffing. Only issue with this was that we had to move funds around for the final payment earlier than expected. 1. Installer was very "short" with his answers to my wife, but spoke to me without issue. B/c of this I had to listen to my wife complain about him being prejudiced against women for 4 weeks during the install. Tony is a nice guy overall but he came across rude to my wife. 1. Upon completion, email communication began QUICKLY (came off a little pushy). We opted to not finance and just pay the entire project off in one payment. Once we paid it off, I had to email multiple times about the final "Paid" invoice being sent. I did however receive it after the 3rd email 1. Wish you took credit card for final payment. Bloody CC companies and their fees...
I found Interlock Metal Roofing online searching to upgrade my old asphalt roof to something more durable, sustainable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient. Interlock was at the top of my list for roofing companies after doing some product research, but I still contacted 3 different companies for a comparison. Interlock responded immediately, unlike the other companies of which one never even responded. After meeting with John Turnbull and the VP of Interlock, it was clear that Interlock had a superior product both in quality and design. From the first response from Marcella with my initial inquiry, to meeting John and the VP, I was so impressed with their professionalism. The installation occurred earlier than estimated and was completed over a 3 day period with 2 installers who were very hard working, polite, professional, and attentive to detail. The installers pointed out that I had some rust developing on several roof vents which I was unaware of, and they kindly offered to spray paint them with Tremclad paint to also match the colour of the roof. They also did a great job cleaning up my yard, leaving me with no concerns about the safety of my dog or kids running around afterwards. The final results are beyond my expectations, so a big thumbs up to John and the whole team. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism Services: Roof installation
Interlock had installed other metal roofing in our neighborhood. We were impressed with what we saw and decided to use their services for our home. The price was very competitive and the end result looks great. The installer was professional, courteous and efficient. We are very impressed by Interlock and would recommend them for anybody looking to install a metal roof. Positive: Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof installation
Bruce was very professional and quick to respond to any and all of my concerns without feeling pressured. The installation staff are excellent and provided great workmanship along with a safe working environment. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an excellent product from a great company that has been around for years. Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Milton
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Milton, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Milton.
How does a metal roof handle Milton's heavy snow and ice buildup?
Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt shingles, reducing the weight your roof carries through our typical 107 cm annual snowfall. The four-way interlocking panels bond tightly—there are no gaps for ice dams to exploit—and the lightweight design (Shingle profile at just 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your structure isn't straining under accumulated load during Milton's roughly 88 freeze–thaw cycles each year. You can add snow guards if desired, but the metal itself won't crack or curl from freeze-thaw stress like asphalt or wood eventually do.
Will freeze-thaw cycles damage my metal roof over time?
No. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy has no iron content, so it cannot rust or degrade from repeated freeze-thaw exposure—even across Milton's approximately 88 freeze–thaw days per year. Unlike asphalt shingles, which become brittle and crack, or wood shakes, which split, aluminum simply expands and contracts elastically without fatigue. The Alunar® 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, ensuring the finish itself endures our ~717 mm of annual rainfall and temperature swings without breakdown.
Can a metal roof survive Milton's wind gusts without leaking or failing?
Yes. Interlock panels are four-way interlocked and warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—well above the 118 km/h gusts Milton experiences. The interlocking geometry distributes wind load across the entire roof plane, and because the panels weigh almost nothing (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft), uplift forces are dramatically reduced compared to heavy shingles. Installation over a solid deck with proper fastening creates a cohesive system that won't flutter, lift, or separate during our typical 19 km/h winds or seasonal storm peaks.
Does metal roofing hold up in hail, and will my insurance company care?
Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Milton's climate data doesn't flag hail as a dominant threat, but when it does occur, aluminum's hardness outperforms asphalt, wood, and traditional tile. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts; ask your broker about metal roof credits. The combination of Class 4 impact resistance and a lifetime limited material warranty reduces long-term risk far below what you'd face with shingles that degrade over 15–20 years.
Will a metal roof help lower my cooling costs in summer?
Yes—energy-efficient colors reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like asphalt does. Our Aged Copper Penny profile achieves initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, so in summer months when Milton receives about 3007 sunshine hours per year, you'll feel a measurable difference in attic temperature and cooling runtime. The reflective coating doesn't degrade over time; it's warranted 30 years against fading (ASTM D2244 measured). Over a 50-year roof life, this energy edge compounds into real savings and a smaller carbon footprint.
How much upkeep does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Aluminum doesn't split like cedar shake, curl like asphalt, or rot like wood. You'll never need to replace individual shingles, scrub algae, or patch rot damage—especially important in Milton, where ~717 mm of annual rainfall and high humidity accelerate decay in organic materials. The roof is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Two decades of real-world data (Interlock has been installed since 1998) shows that a solid deck, tight seams, and an inert metal surface simply don't accumulate the labor costs that shingle and wood roofs do over their lifespans.
Can my new metal roof be installed over my existing shingles?
Yes, in most cases. Because aluminum roofing weighs so little—the Mediterranean Tile profile at just 0.59 lb/sq ft is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—it installs over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement. Our local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd., assesses your deck during a free estimate and determines whether an overlay or tear-off is right for your home. An overlay saves time and landfill impact; if your existing deck is compromised, a clean tear-off and solid deck installation ensures peak performance through Milton's varied weather.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty cover?
The Guardian Warranty offers a lifetime limited material warranty to the original owner, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—and it's one-time transferable, giving the next owner an additional 50 years from completion. That means even as a resale benefit, the roof is protected well beyond any other material. Real-world installations have performed for 25+ years in demanding environments from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations. In Milton's moderate climate, a properly installed Interlock metal roof will almost certainly outlast the house itself.
Is a metal roof actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?
Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and has a long in-service life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that happens every 15–20 years across the region. When a metal roof eventually comes down—likely decades from now—it goes back into the aluminum supply chain rather than to waste. Milton residents who choose Interlock reduce their carbon footprint twice: once by avoiding the energy costs of replacing shingles repeatedly, and again by supporting a circular material. Over a 50-year lifespan, the environmental math favors aluminum decisively.
Can I get the look of slate, cedar shake, or tile with a metal roof?
Absolutely. Interlock offers five distinct profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each profile is manufactured to authentic texture and dimension, so your home's aesthetic depends entirely on your choice, not the material. Whether you prefer the formal elegance of slate, the rustic warmth of cedar, or the Old World charm of tile, you get that visual impact paired with aluminum's durability, lightness, and 30-year coating warranty. Our local installer can show you samples and help you pick the profile that matches your home's character and Milton's architectural neighborhood.
