I would have liked more communication between sales people prior and during installation I'll be hiring interlock in the future for the remaining buildings on my property

Review: June 18, 2018

We did not choose them. We couldn't justify the cost for a new roof since we are moving. We just re-shingled the roof. The sales representative was fabulous. If we were keeping the house, we would have chosen Interlock Roofing.

Review: October 5, 2017Completion: September 13, 2017

I did receive a phone call from the crew notifying me of when they were going to start but I didn't receive any notice of when the materials were being dropped off. An Armour transport truck just showed up one day but the driver was extremely nice and it really didn't matter. I can't really speak to how happy I am with the roof itself as it's too early to tell if there will be any problems I think but so far I love the look of it and am happy so far but it's brand new. Roof looks great - makes the house look high end and I'm pleased with the colour I chose which was a worry to me. Overall we are very happy with our purchase so far. As long as it holds up to the sea salt air and the extremely high winds we have here on the north shore we will remain happy!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Cavendish

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Cavendish.

Does a metal roof handle Cavendish's heavy snow load, or do I need to worry about ice dams?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice from bonding underneath. Cavendish averages about 197 cm of snow per year with roughly 71 freeze-thaw cycles annually—conditions that trap moisture in traditional shingles and create dangerous dams. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that wind-driven snow finds no entry points, and the slick surface encourages melt runoff rather than pooling. Add snow guards if you prefer controlled shedding onto landscaping.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in PEI damage an aluminum metal roof over time?

Aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw environments because it has no iron content—it cannot rust, and its oxide layer self-heals when scratched by ice or debris. With about 71 freeze-thaw days per year in Cavendish and mean temperatures around 7.2°C, the material expands and contracts naturally without cracking, splitting, or losing structural integrity the way wood shake or asphalt shingles do. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating, warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading, adds another protective barrier during these wet, freeze-prone seasons.

Can a metal roof withstand North Shore coastal winds without failing?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), and Cavendish's typical gusts reach about 165 km/h during storms—well within the safety envelope when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, preventing uplift or lateral movement that loose shingles allow. This design, combined with proper fastening, means the roof stays intact even during the severe coastal squalls the North Shore experiences, protecting both your home's interior and your investment.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel roofing, especially near the ocean?

Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—period. When exposed to air, aluminum naturally forms a thin oxide layer that protects the metal underneath; if that layer is scratched by salt spray or debris, it self-heals automatically. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a two-sided Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating for extra salt-air defense. Coastal Cavendish homes experience salt-laden winds and about 891 mm of annual rainfall, conditions that would corrode steel within years but leave aluminum untouched—the company has installed systems from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations.

Does a metal roof get dented by hail, and will my insurance notice?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While a very severe hail event might cause cosmetic surface marks on some profiles, the roof remains fully waterproof and structurally sound. Many insurers offer premium discounts for metal roofs because the durability and impact resistance reduce claim frequency, but confirm with your provider whether your specific policy recognizes the Class 4 rating. In Cavendish's climate, hail is less common than freeze-thaw cycles, so this protection is a bonus, not a liability.

Will I need to reinforce my home's framing to install a metal tile roof?

No structural reinforcement is required. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs only about 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so it installs directly over most existing roofs without any framing upgrades. This is particularly valuable in Cavendish, where older coastal homes may already have aging structures or limited headroom for upgrades. The lighter weight also means faster, simpler installation over your current roof, reducing labor time and disruption. Your installer can confirm your existing deck is sound, but the aluminum tile profile's feather-light construction almost always eliminates the expensive reinforcement that traditional tile demands.

How long will a metal roof really last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—the major failure modes that plague asphalt, wood, and traditional tile. It transfers once to the next owner for a 50-year term, protecting your resale value. With proper installation and maintenance, an Interlock roof functions for 50+ years; the Alunar coating itself carries a separate 30-year warranty against chalking and fading measured to ASTM standards. In Cavendish's damp, freeze-thaw climate, this durability means your roof outlasts multiple asphalt cycles and outlasts you as the owner.

Does a metal roof need more upkeep than asphalt shingles or wood shake?

A metal roof needs significantly less maintenance. Unlike asphalt, which sheds granules and grows brittle under Cavendish's roughly 2749 annual sunshine hours and 71 freeze-thaw days, aluminum is inert—it doesn't rot, split, or curl. Unlike wood shake, it requires no staining, sanding, or fungicide treatments. Basic maintenance means clearing leaves from gutters and checking fasteners after severe coastal storms (winds gusting to 165 km/h occasionally loosen hardware). The ESR-1790 evaluation and CALGreen verification confirm that metal roofs reduce long-term maintenance costs compared to wood and asphalt, freeing your budget for other priorities over the roof's 50-year lifespan.

Can I get a metal roof that actually looks like slate, cedar shakes, or tile instead of the industrial corrugated look?

Yes. Interlock offers five profiles—Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile—each with authentic texture and shadow lines that replicate traditional materials when viewed from the street and yard. The aluminum construction underneath delivers the durability, lightweight advantage (the Shingle profile weighs only 0.41 lb/sq ft), and half-century lifespan, while the profile delivers the architectural character you want. Choose the look that suits your Cavendish home's style, then enjoy the knowledge that you've eliminated future tear-offs, asphalt maintenance, and the freeze-thaw damage that plagues traditional materials in this climate.
