| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Our house experiences high wind and exposure to the elements on the Maine coast. Interlock offered competitive pricing on aluminum shingle roofing. The entire experience was good, from quotation, removal of the old roof, and installation of the new roof.
We really like our roof.
Interlock was great, and installation was just as told to us by sales. The crew worked hard, cleaned area each day and roof looks great! I was impressed by their professionalism and also had a call from home office checking during the install and had a visit from a home office inspector checking progress and quality of install.
The roof looks great Jonathan did a great job of explaining the features of the new roof.the crew was great and very professional and did a great clean up after the installation
Our entire experience; inquiry, ordering, installation, and follow up has been excellent. The roof was justifiably costly and definitely worth the investment. The appearance of our house has been greatly enhanced.
Nazar was awesome to fix roof from winter ice damage. !!
Bought this roofing 20 years ago. It was installed well. Needed improvements to my roof structure were suggested and made to ensure the longevity and worthiness of my roof. All these years later I am still happy I made the investment in my 160 year old home.

Interlock was very professional. They installed my roof in a timely manner and the workmanship was great. Glad I went with interlock. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof damage repair, Roof installation
Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value To Potential Interlock Customer: We intentionally waited almost two years to write a review (roof replaced in August 2019). Replacing a roof (whether asphalt or Interlock) is an expensive project, and we felt it was important to have the perspective of someone who has experience with the Interlock roof for 2 years. Our house is an old colonial built in about 1890. It is almost 3200 square feet with an attic that could be converted to a third floor. We also have an L-shaped wrap-around porch at the front of the house. I am very familiar with the effort it takes to replace a roof, as I have helped re-roof five different houses, including my own. I did this with the help of several friends, putting a layer of asphalt shingles on my house about 20 years ago. However, after 20 years, I had shingles beginning to fail and lost a couple during wind storms. I had a couple of asphalt shingle contractors look at the house for an estimate. One never provided a quote. The second refused the work because my house is 34 feet at the peak, and he felt it was too tall for him to work on. Michael Baldarassi came to our house in June 2019. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable about the construction of old houses and correctly identified that the gable ends would need repair as it was common to not fully extend roof boards to the gable end. He explained the product extremely well, and we were happy to choose the black, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">slate-looking tiles for our roof. The work team started in the second week of August on a bright sunny, " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hot week. My roof needed to be stripped to the boards, and I was amazed at how quickly they dealt with the very hot asphalt shingles. It is an extremely hard-working team, and it was to the point that I wanted to tell them to take breaks. Sheets of plywood were carried up to the roof, gable ends were repaired, and several spots needed repair prior to installing the Interlock shingles. They did an excellent installation, along with cleanup and the weather-supported completion in 5 days. We immediately started receiving compliments from townspeople who thought we were having a slate roof put on. The roof definitely adds appeal to our house. Our experience with the Interlock roof has been outstanding. I no longer worry during the strong winds of winter. Having the snow slide off the roof has been a big benefit. Our first snowstorm in December 2019 was 20 inches. It was predicted to be followed by rain four days later. For the past 20 years, I have had to go out onto the wrap-around porch roof to shovel it off so that the 20 inches of snow with rain on it wouldn’t overload the porch. Not with Interlock. The snow had slid off during the snowstorm and before the rain, so no more shovelling the roof. I love not having to stand on a snowy roof shovelling anymore. Having the snow slide off has other benefits. It removed tons of weight from the snow on the roof. That snow weight does nothing good for a house. I used to have minor changes in door fitting, etc., during the winter, but that has stopped because the snow weight on the roof is gone. Additionally, no snow on the roof means no icicles. As one side of my house faces the sun all day, there are winters where if it is 10F and sunny for several days, massive icicles form that weigh hundreds of pounds. These become dangerous when they unexpectedly drop. Icicles do not happen when there is no snow on the roof. Our Interlock roof has been a fantastic choice, and it has added to the value of our house. One day when we sell our house, I have no doubt that our Interlock roof will help to attract a buyer, and the price of the roof will likely be recouped in part or all. What is a big question a potential homebuyer has? - how old is the roof? Being able to answer with a 50-year " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">warranty that can be transferred to one buyer will bring a lot of weight to the sale. The warranty gives us peace of mind that the roof will never worry us again. Thank you again, Interlock. Service: Roof installation
All of the above...we had a positive experience and live the look of our roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Otisfield
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Otisfield, Maine. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Otisfield.
How does a metal roof handle 150 cm of snow in Otisfield winters?
Interlock panels shed snow and ice efficiently because aluminum has a smooth, low-friction surface and the four-way interlocking design creates a unified plane that prevents ice dams. Otisfield receives about 153 cm of snow annually, and freeze-thaw cycling (roughly 91 days per year) is where metal roofs excel—unlike asphalt, which degrades under repeated freezing, aluminum's oxide layer actually self-heals, remaining intact through countless thaw cycles. Snow guards are available if you want to manage snow slide direction.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Maine damage an aluminum metal roof?
No. Aluminum doesn't absorb water, so it cannot swell, crack, or split when frozen—the three failure modes that destroy asphalt and wood in climates like Otisfield's, which average 91 freeze-thaw days yearly. The material expands and contracts uniformly; the four-way interlocking panels accommodate this movement without leaking. After 27 years of installation records from coastal and alpine sites, perforation and corrosion remain absent. Your roof will outlast the freeze-thaw calendar.
Does heavy rain leak through a metal roof in Otisfield?
No. Otisfield receives about 926 mm of rain annually, and metal roofs are engineered to shed water faster than it can pool. The four-way interlocking seams create a continuous, overlapped surface—water cannot penetrate. Installation over solid deck with underlayment (standard practice) provides the same leak-free performance as asphalt, but without the vulnerability to UV degradation or hail punctures that plague traditional shingles over time.
Can an Otisfield metal roof withstand heavy wind and gusts?
Yes. Otisfield's typical wind gusts reach 115 km/h, and Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—exceeding your local wind exposure. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four edges, creating a unified structure that doesn't lift or separate. This engineering also means no fastener creep or loosening over decades. UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating further ensures the roof maintains its integrity through severe weather.
Does a metal roof in Maine qualify for hail-damage insurance discounts?
Interlock metal roofs carry UL 2218 Class 4 impact certification—the highest rating available—and the warranty covers hailstone perforation up to 1.5 inches. This durability may qualify you for insurance discounts with carriers that recognize non-susceptible roofing. Many insurers reduce premiums for aluminum metal roofs because they eliminate the hail-replacement cycle that drives claims in Maine. Contact your agent with the ESR-1790 evaluation report and UL listing for a quote adjustment.
Does my house need reinforcement to support an aluminum metal roof?
No structural work is needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and even the Tile profile—which replicates heavy ceramic or concrete tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than the real thing. Most Otisfield homes can support this load without modification. The aluminum can install directly over your existing asphalt roof, eliminating the cost and hassle of tear-off. Lightweight installation is one reason the 25-year payoff is so dramatic.
Why won't an aluminum roof rust like a steel metal roof?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust is iron oxide, a chemical reaction that simply doesn't occur in aluminum alloy. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, invisible oxide layer that self-heals when scratched. This is why Interlock panels have been installed in salt-air coastal environments and Antarctic research stations for over 25 years without corrosion. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (applied to both sides) adds a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, giving you two independent protection layers in Otisfield's wet climate.
Do energy-efficiency metal roof colors really reduce cooling costs?
Yes, measurably. energy-efficiency-certified Interlock colors achieve thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, meaning they bounce heat away instead of absorbing it like dark asphalt. Cool Roof Rating Council testing confirms this. Otisfield averages about 3,051 sunshine hours yearly, so even modest reflection compounds into real summer savings. The energy benefit is strongest in spring and fall when you run AC selectively—the color won't pay for the roof alone, but it's genuine and documented in ASTM D6775 testing.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need versus asphalt or tile?
Nearly none. Asphalt requires moss/algae treatment, loose-shingle inspections, and eventual replacement. Wood tile rots and splits. Concrete tile cracks in freeze-thaw cycles. Aluminum sheds debris, resists moss because it doesn't absorb water, and is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. A rinse every few years if you live under heavy trees is the extent of it. In Otisfield's 926 mm annual rainfall, self-cleaning is a genuine asset. No sealants, no coatings to reapply—just install and live.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Yes, over the roof's lifetime. Asphalt lasts 15-20 years and requires tear-off and landfill disposal—typically a $7,000–12,000 cycle repeated 2-3 times over 50 years. Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner), and is installed over your existing roof, eliminating tear-off costs. Current promotion: zero interest and payments deferred until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. The math favors aluminum, especially when you factor in energy savings and resale appeal.
