Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Alford, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
The warehouse manager went out of his way to accommodate my payment related requests. My installer was professional, answering all my questions and providing pictures of each step in the repair process.
I thought they did a great job.
Don't hire these people if you have a TV antenna or satellite dish on your roof. hire crews that can comminicate with homeowners I've hired a professional, English-speaking bucket truck crew to repair my broadcast antenna rotor I'll let you know when all the mistakes and broken accessories are corrected/replaced but I don't want to see any of those idiots on my roof ever again. .
You should stipulate that the subcontractor always have someone on site who speaks English. This didn't create an issue but it could have.
We had our whole house done by Interlock in 2005, we've only had one issue (wind damage) and they came out the next day to repair the damage. At the time we left a small overhang undone with plans of removing it, however our plans changed and the roof had deteriorated with the passing of time. I called and they were very receptive to coming out to inspect and then replace. The work was done quickly, on time and to my complete satisfaction. I highly recommend Interlock, you wont be sorry!
Jonathan was not great at reading the room. I did not need a lengthy sales pitch; just information. See above. I did not love interacting with Jonathan Brown; he does not seem to recognize when someone knows what they want and doesn't need to be sold. It also would have been helpful if the installers were more proactive in communicating with me. They would mention that I could talk to their foreperson if I had questions, but I wouldn't know what to ask since the activity was happening on the roof and I couldn't really see what they were doing.
Very good communication from start to finish, always on time, a quality product. The crew installing the roof were very professional.
From the Salesman to the work crew, everyone was extremely professional. Although expensive I do feel I have made a great investment for my home.
The roof was installed over 20 years ago. I called this morning and someone came by within a couple of hours and spent a few hours here and didn't leave until it was fixed. Couldn't possibly ask for more.
Very quick response for a minor repair. Prompt, explained the repair in detail and done in less than half an hour. Interlock Metal Roofing is number 1!!
They could've improved on cleanliness and care on the jobsite during the job. They did great cleaning afterwards.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Alford
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Alford, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Alford.
Does a metal roof handle Alford's heavy snow load without ice dams?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice dam formation. Alford receives about 95 cm of snow annually across roughly 92 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that trap moisture under asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a unified surface with no seams for water to pool behind. Snow guards are available if you want to manage the descent. The lightweight design means no structural reinforcement is needed, even when snow accumulates.
How does aluminum metal roofing stand up to Berkshire County freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum is naturally immune to the spalling and cracking that plague asphalt, wood, and concrete tile during freeze-thaw cycles. Your region experiences approximately 92 freeze-thaw days annually, subjecting roofing to repeated expansion and contraction. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy does not absorb water, so ice cannot form within the material itself. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warrantied 30 years against peeling and breakdown. This combination means the roof's integrity remains stable through decades of Alford winters.
Can aluminum metal roofing actually rust in a wet climate like Alford?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element required for rust formation. When aluminum's surface oxidizes, it forms a protective oxide layer that self-heals if scratched, creating a barrier that strengthens over time. Alford averages about 1060 mm of rainfall annually, yet an aluminum roof will never corrode, rot, or degrade chemically from moisture. The Alunar coating is applied to both sides of every panel for additional salt-air and acid-rain protection. This is why Interlock panels have been installed from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations since 1998.
Is a metal roof safe in Alford's typical wind gusts?
Yes—Interlock's metal roof is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Alford's typical gusts reach about 117 km/h (73 mph), well within the safety margin. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a unified structural system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than failing panel-by-panel like asphalt shingles. The system has been field-tested across North America's windiest regions. Your roof will remain secure during severe weather events without special bracing.
What's the hail rating on metal roofing, and could it lower my insurance cost?
Interlock metal roofing holds the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available in the industry. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum design may qualify you for homeowner's insurance discounts; speak with your agent about metal-roof premium reductions. Class 4 performance is particularly valuable in New England, where spring and summer storm systems bring large hail. The rating is backed by independent third-party testing and is recognized by insurers nationwide.
Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles over 40 years?
A metal roof is typically a single lifetime purchase; asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years, meaning two to three complete tear-offs and disposal costs over 40 years. Interlock's Guardian warranty is non-prorated for the original owner and transferable (50 years for the next owner), covering rusting, splitting, cracking, and impact loss. Factor in avoided maintenance, potential insurance discounts from the Class 4 hail rating, the energy savings from reflecting heat away, and transferable value at resale. Current financing includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
Can a metal roof actually cool my home during Alford summers?
energy-efficient Interlock colors reflect rather than absorb solar heat, with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reducing the cooling load compared to dark asphalt. While Alford's climate features about 3034 sunshine hours per year and a mean temperature of 9.8°C (modest by national standards), reflective metal roofing still measurably lowers attic temperatures and air-conditioning runtime. Cool Roof Rating Council certification verifies this performance. The lighter roof surface reflects the heat that conventional materials absorb, lowering utility costs year-round.
Does a metal roof need much maintenance compared to asphalt or tile?
Metal roofing requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. There is no granule loss, no cupping, no algae growth prone to wet climates, and no cracking from freeze-thaw cycles. Alford's approximately 1060 mm annual rainfall means moisture is constant; asphalt absorbs it, leading to decay and algae; aluminum is impervious. A simple periodic inspection and gutter cleaning (standard for any roof) is sufficient. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 cites CALGreen verification for reduced maintenance burden. You'll spend less time and money on upkeep than you would on traditional materials over the roof's life.
What warranty comes with Interlock metal roofing in Massachusetts?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning there is no degradation of coverage over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The Alunar coating specifically is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading (measured per ASTM D4214). The warranty is one-time transferable to the next owner, extending their protection to 50 years from completion. This is exceptional coverage in the industry and reflects Interlock's confidence in durability across New England's climate.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Alford and the surrounding area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. is the authorized installer for Alford and Berkshire County, serving the region since 1999. They are factory-trained on Interlock's four-way interlocking panel system and the full range of profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. They can install directly over most existing roofs, avoiding costly structural work, and currently offer no-payment-no-interest financing until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Alford’s climate?
Yes. Alford averages about 95 cm of snow, 1060 mm of rain, roughly 92 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 117 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
