Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Amesbury, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
I like the product but the staff I did not have a good experience with.
We are very happy with the beautiful roof. We had a heavy rainstorm just a week after installation and the rain on the roof was very quiet as Jeff told us it would be. The crew was great. They were well organized, did a great job on the roof and did a great job with clean up.
No improvements needed
Dear Sirs, To quote from T. S. Eliot, “Home is where one starts from.” And our home needed a kick to start it again! We built our home 12 years ago, but our roof was already showing real signs that we needed to replace it, as the shingles where curling, slipping out of place and although not causing leaks at the time it surely would have. The way our home is situated on our lot, it gets total New England weather. There is also “a lot” of roof in the front, so we needed it to look incredible as well. We had looked into Interlock a year prior, but with children and careers, sometimes if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! But a year later we knew that our roof was the first project on our list to get attention. We got in touch with Interlock, and that is the best decision we have made! Our initial visit with Dan was pleasant, not pressure packed to purchase on the spot, as we had done our research. The cost to re-roof with asphalt shingles at this time, plus the possibility of having to do another 12-15 years versus the price presented to us go with Interlock AND NEVER ROOF AGAIN was well within our budget! We decided that meeting to go with Interlock. We received updates on our order process at each step, from the order being received to when the order was being shipped. The kept us informed and provided excellent customer service. Our roofing system went on ahead of schedule and the installers were excellent! Nick and Serge were pleasant, extremely hard workers and cleaned up the site each night! They were a pleasure to have around! Our home is beautiful, again! We have a company to back up our roofing system and feel that going with Interlock was the best decision we have made! Thank you so much for having such quality employees, for your communication and for brining peace of mind to us!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Amesbury
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Amesbury.
How does a metal roof handle Amesbury's 116 cm of annual snow?
Metal roofs shed snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because the smooth aluminum surface and four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration. Amesbury receives about 116 cm of snow yearly across roughly 93 freeze-thaw cycles, which repeatedly stresses asphalt shingles. Interlock's lightweight design (the Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) eliminates the need for structural reinforcement, and the panels can be fitted with snow guards if desired. The continuous aluminum surface resists the cracking and curling that freeze-thaw cycles cause in conventional roofs.
Why does aluminum roofing outperform asphalt in freeze-thaw climates?
Aluminum's crystalline structure and oxide layer remain stable through freeze-thaw stress; asphalt becomes brittle. Amesbury experiences approximately 93 freeze-thaw days per year, where temperature swings cause traditional shingles to curl, crack, and lose granules. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating is warranted 30 years against these weathering modes. Aluminum expands and contracts minimally, maintaining panel integrity and seam security. This durability translates directly to avoiding the roof replacement cycle that asphalt imposes.
Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a rainy climate?
No. Aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust—only asphalt-backed steel roofs develop rust. Amesbury's 1025 mm of annual rainfall and proximity to coastal salt air would accelerate steel corrosion, but Interlock's 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys (ASTM B209) develop a self-healing oxide layer that protects against moisture. The Alunar coating is applied to both sides of every panel for extra salt-air defense. This chemistry eliminates the hidden rust damage homeowners discover during roof inspections after 15–20 years on steel.
Does a metal roof leak in heavy rainfall?
No. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create overlapping seams that channel water downward; the solid deck and underlayment prevent water from penetrating gaps. Amesbury averages 1025 mm of rain annually, yet properly installed Interlock systems do not leak because water follows the panel contours rather than pooling. The same gravity-driven flow that works in light rain works in downpours. Most leak complaints stem from improper installation around penetrations (vents, chimneys), not the panels themselves.
Will a metal roof blow off in Amesbury's wind gusts?
No. Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph and are engineered for the typical gusts that reach 104 km/h in this region. The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind pressure across the entire roof plane rather than concentrating it at fasteners. ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms compliance with IBC/IRC wind-load standards. Amesbury's mean daily winds of about 17 km/h with occasional stronger gusts pose no risk to a properly fastened metal roof.
Does hail damage a metal roof, and will insurance recognize that?
Interlock aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This non-combustible aluminum is inherently more dent-resistant than asphalt, and Class 4 rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage. While denting is theoretically possible in extreme hail, perforation (the functional failure that causes leaks) is warranted against. Many insurers recognize metal roofing as a premium risk reduction and adjust premiums accordingly.
Does a metal roof weigh less than tile, and does that matter?
Yes. The Interlock Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—so no structural reinforcement is needed. Amesbury homeowners can install metal roofing over most existing asphalt roofs without rafter upgrades or engineering review, reducing labor cost and installation time. This light weight also means lower shipping costs and easier handling during installation. The Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft and Cedar Shingle at roughly 0.41 lb/sq ft deliver traditional visual appeal without the structural strain that authentic materials impose.
Does an aluminum metal roof keep homes cooler in summer?
energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into the attic. Amesbury receives about 3057 hours of sunshine annually. Cool Roof Rating Council certification confirms that reflective aluminum roofing reduces cooling loads compared to dark asphalt. The reflective advantage is greatest on south-facing roofs and in homes without heavy attic insulation. Over a roof's 50-year lifespan, energy savings compound, especially as utility costs rise.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Yes, when evaluated over the roof's lifetime. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock carries a lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner and a transferable 50-year term for the next owner. The Guardian Warranty is non-prorated, covering rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact loss. A homeowner who installs metal at age 40 will likely never replace it again, and the next owner gains 50 years of protection. Current financing offers—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—reduce entry cost. Amortized across decades, metal roofing costs less per year than the asphalt cycle.
