There was some initial confusion over the one or two nails per shingle, but it was quickly resolved. This whole job was very well organized, i.e., delivery of container followed by materials and installation. The crew was very hard working and friendly. Our roof looks great and we've noticed that our upstairs room tends to be cooler than it was with asphalt shingles.

Interlock Roofing lacking customer service, no response when I reach out to them about outstanding issues. They did not wear mask when they came into my home. I am still having problems with my roof. Interlock Roofing needs to improve their communication and customer service, they are not very friendly.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in North Eastham

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in North Eastham, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in North Eastham.

Will a metal roof hold up to North Eastham's freeze-thaw cycles?

Yes—aluminum thrives in freeze-thaw environments because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking or deteriorating. Your area experiences about 45 freeze-thaw days per year, which is exactly the kind of repeated stress that degrades asphalt and wood. Aluminum's non-porous oxide layer doesn't absorb water, so ice doesn't get trapped inside the material. The four-way interlocking panels also allow thermal movement while staying locked together, preventing leaks. After 25+ years of installations across coastal Canada and mountain regions, freeze-thaw failure is virtually unheard of.

Can aluminum roofs rust, or are they immune like I've heard?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron to form. Instead, aluminum naturally develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal underneath. When scratched, that layer reforms automatically. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is coated with Alunar 70% PVDF on both sides, giving you 30 years of warranted protection against corrosion. In North Eastham's 1157 mm annual rainfall and salt-air proximity, this dual-layer defense means you're investing in a roof that won't corrode, not one that merely resists it.

How does a metal roof handle North Eastham's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice more efficiently than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip. Your region averages about 62 cm of snow annually, and metal's tight interlocking panels drain water quickly once melting begins, reducing ice dam formation at the eaves. The standing seam and slate profiles are especially effective at directing meltwater toward gutters. Metal also won't become waterlogged like asphalt in the freeze-thaw cycle, so you avoid the weight penalty. Optional snow guards can be installed if you prefer slower shedding for safety reasons.

Will my metal roof survive North Eastham's coastal wind gusts?

Absolutely. Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—well above the 160 km/h gusts your area can experience. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together on all sides, meaning wind can't lift or separate individual shingles the way it does asphalt or wood. This interconnected design distributes wind load across the entire roof system rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Combined with proper fastening and underlayment, the system has proven itself in coastal and mountain environments worldwide since 1998.

Could a metal roof lower my homeowners insurance?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating qualifies many homeowners for insurance discounts because insurers recognize that aluminum won't dent, crack, or lose impact resistance the way asphalt or slate does. Check with your agent about potential premium reductions; many carriers offer them for Class 4-rated roofs. Given North Eastham's weather variability, that combination of impact durability and warranty coverage offers real financial protection.

Do metal roofs really help with cooling costs, or is that marketing?

Metal roofs reduce cooling costs through measurable thermal properties, not marketing claims. Interlock's energy-efficient colors have solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84—both Cool Roof Rating Council verified. These mean the roof reflects heat that asphalt absorbs and radiates. North Eastham receives about 3081 sunshine hours yearly; that consistent solar load means an efficient roof genuinely lowers attic and interior temperatures. The difference compounds across summer months, especially if your home lacks air conditioning. Combined with low weight (no extra structural load) and 25+ year lifespan, energy savings add up significantly.

Is a metal roof really maintenance-free compared to asphalt or tile?

Metal roofs require far less maintenance than asphalt or traditional tile. You won't lose granules, need moss treatment from North Eastham's 1157 mm annual rainfall, or deal with wood-eating insects. No patching, no resealing, no algae cleanup. The aluminum won't split, crack, or curl with 45 freeze-thaw cycles per year like asphalt does. Periodic gutter cleaning and debris removal are normal for any roof, but Interlock's material itself is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. The Guardian Warranty covers splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for life—meaning maintenance needs are minimal and predictable.

What does the Interlock lifetime warranty actually cover, and for how long?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning no depreciation over time. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The roof is also one-time transferable to the next owner with 50 years of coverage from completion date. That's uncommon among roofing warranties, which typically prorate or expire after 20–30 years. For a home with decades of freeze-thaw stress ahead and coastal weather exposure, knowing your material is backed for life against material failure brings genuine peace of mind.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt roof, or do I need a tear-off?

Yes—in most cases, Interlock metal roofing installs directly over your existing asphalt roof with no tear-off required. The extraordinary light weight is key: even the heaviest profile (Mediterranean Tile at ~0.59 lb/sq ft) adds negligible load. That means no structural reinforcement needed and faster installation. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served your region since 1999 and can assess your specific deck during a site visit. Skipping the tear-off saves time, cost, and keeps asphalt out of landfills. Our local team can walk you through the timeline and process for your home.

Are metal roofs actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Yes. Aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable and retains its value indefinitely—you're not replacing it for decades. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are tear-off waste destined for landfills; North Eastham homeowners collectively send thousands of tons there every year. Interlock's lightweight design also means less transportation energy and no structural reinforcement needed. At end of life (which may be 50+ years away), your aluminum roof becomes feedstock for new products rather than permanent waste. The one-time transfer warranty also extends useful life beyond the original owner, further reducing material turnover.

Is a metal roof a good choice for North Eastham’s climate?

Yes. North Eastham averages about 62 cm of snow, 1157 mm of rain, roughly 45 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 160 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
