Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Sharon, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock metal roofing came within a few weeks after we had agreed to the new roof. They covered all the roofs with plywood. Then a layer of waterproof material. They were very neat picking up after themselves. They used a large magnet to get the nails. The finished job looks wonderful. I also liked that their office was in Walpole just the next town. The only complaint I have is that on the next to last day they worked in between a Thunder storm and pouring rain. I wished they had waited until the roof was dryer to install the metal shingles. Positive: Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value
I don’t want to do roof this year
The only thing that I was confused about was Dave said it would be in May because it was custom made and from Canada. Then 2 days later I received a call from Jennifer and she said the materials were in and they can start next week. I just hope it's the right material by what Dave said.
The lifetime guarantee is great, having the income to do so ultimately affects my decision. I could put on a roof with a thirty year warranty for a lot less money. If and when I am able to the amount of money that comes in depends on if I am going to spend $10,000 or $25,000.Michael is very experienced, knowledgeable and attentive. He understood where I am coming from financially. I appreciate Michael following up with me and not pressuring me. Michael understands that if and when I am ready I will contact with my decision.
I was not informed before the fact that the roof overhang(s) on the gable ends of the house were to be cut back some,I would not have agreed to any cutting. There was an issue on the contracted snow guards per the Interlock contract I signed. After the roof installation we were told no snow guards for standing seam roofs. I pointed out several other metal roofing firms have snow guards available for standing seam roofs. Now I must install them myself. Not a satisfied customer I felt it would be odd to have 1 roof with the snow guards and the snow rail offered for the standing seam roof. Other roof Co.'s offer double and triple round bar railings with the mountings very similar to the snow guards in appearance. Had we been correctly informed initially I may have changed my mind and shingled all three roofs, although I prefer standing seam.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Sharon
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Sharon, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Sharon.
How does a metal roof handle 75 cm of snow in a Sharon winter?
Metal roofing sheds snow efficiently because its smooth, hard surface prevents snow from bonding to the panels like it does to asphalt. Sharon averages about 75 cm of snow annually with gusts reaching 135 km/h, so snow load and ice dams are real concerns. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and lightweight aluminum (the Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean your roof supports heavy wet snow without structural upgrades. Optional snow guards can be installed at the eave if you want to control discharge. The rigid deck and underlayment prevent the flex that traps meltwater on asphalt roofs, reducing ice dam formation in the freeze-thaw cycle Sharon experiences about 84 days per year.
Why does freeze-thaw damage asphalt roofs but not aluminum?
Asphalt absorbs water, expands when it freezes, and contracts when it thaws — this cycle cracks, splits, and curls the material over time. Aluminum does not absorb water. Sharon's approximately 84 freeze-thaw days per year, combined with 1194 mm of annual rainfall, create ideal conditions for asphalt failure. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy remains dimensionally stable through thousands of freeze-thaw cycles. When the oxide layer on aluminum's surface is scratched, it self-heals — no rust initiates. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers splitting, cracking, and curling; asphalt roofs simply age and fail under these stresses.
Can an aluminum roof rust in Massachusetts?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a thin, transparent oxide layer that actually protects the metal beneath and self-heals when scratched. This makes aluminum ideal for Sharon's maritime-influenced climate with moderate salt exposure and 1194 mm of annual moisture. Steel roofing, by contrast, requires paint or coatings to prevent rust, and once that coating fails, rust spreads quickly. Interlock adds a second layer of protection: Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Even if the coating wears, the aluminum substrate remains protected indefinitely.
Do metal panels stay attached during Sharon's gusty storms?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Sharon's typical peak gusts reach 135 km/h (about 84 mph), well within the warranty. The four-way interlocking design means each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides — no exposed fasteners, no seams for wind to exploit. Wind cannot lift or separate a properly installed Interlock roof. Compare this to asphalt shingles, which are vulnerable to blow-off in high winds. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 covers installation methods for wind resistance. Given the region's seasonal nor'easters and occasional microbursts, this mechanical interlock is a substantial advantage over fastener-dependent systems.
What's the hail rating on Interlock, and does it help with insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4, the highest available hail impact rating. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches — a level of protection most asphalt and slate roofs cannot match. Class 4 rating demonstrates impact resistance that many insurance carriers recognize; some offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs because the loss history is strong. While Sharon's climate does not feature routine hailstorms, the region occasionally experiences severe thunderstorms and spring convection that can produce damaging hail. Documenting your roof's Class 4 rating and lifetime limited warranty when you apply for homeowners insurance or renew your policy may reduce your premiums and simplify claims if impact damage does occur.
What does the Interlock warranty cover, and how long does it last?
The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original homeowner. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance — all the failure modes that plague other roofing materials. It does not wear down over time; a defect in year 29 is covered as fully as in year 1. The warranty is one-time transferable: the next homeowner gets 50 years of coverage from the date of completion. This matters at resale. Most asphalt roofs last 15–20 years before needing replacement; Interlock's durability, combined with the transferable term, means your next roof investment is your last. For a homeowner planning to stay in Sharon, this eliminates re-roofing costs for decades.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Metal costs more initially but eliminates the repeat replacement cycle asphalt requires. Asphalt roofs in Sharon's climate — with 1194 mm of rain, 75 cm of snow, and 84 freeze-thaw days annually — typically need replacement every 15–20 years. A metal roof, by contrast, lasts 50+ years. Over that span, you avoid two or three asphalt tear-offs and re-installations, plus disposal costs and the disruption of reroofing. Interlock's aluminum is ~95% recyclable, eliminating landfill tipping fees asphalt incurs. Current financing (no payments, no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation) closes the upfront gap. Homeowners who plan to stay in their home long-term and factor in energy savings from reflective coatings (up to 0.55 solar reflectance) typically recover the difference in 10–15 years of reduced cooling costs and avoided repairs.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need?
Interlock requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional inspection and gutter cleaning — exactly what asphalt, wood, and tile demand anyway. The panels do not curl, split, or degrade like asphalt shingles do after 10–15 years of Sharon's 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Unlike wood shake, aluminum does not rot, attract insects, or require treatment. Unlike tile, it does not crack from impact or settle unevenly. The Alunar coating (PVDF fluorocarbon, warranted 30 years) resists fading and chalk residue — no power-washing needed. Rain, snow, and the region's 3062 hours of annual sunshine clean the panels naturally. Most homeowners never call for a roof repair after installation. This contrasts sharply with asphalt, which requires patching, shingle replacement, and regular inspection as it ages.
Do I need to reinforce my house structure for a metal roof?
No. Interlock's extreme lightness is one of its primary advantages. The Cedar Shingle profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft — about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means you can install Interlock over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, saving thousands in framing upgrades. Asphalt shingles weigh roughly 2–3 lb/sq ft; Interlock's Tile profile is still a fraction of that. Because Sharon receives about 75 cm of snow per year, a lightweight roof that does not require reinforcement is especially valuable — you avoid expensive structural work while gaining superior durability. The ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 confirms installation feasibility over existing structures. A structural engineer will typically clear your home immediately.
