I would have liked less of a wait time but once the job was completed it was worth it for the quality product we received. The roof is excellent and all of the work was completed in 3 days which was very impressive. It improved the appearance of our home and it is awesome to know we won't have to worry about our roof ever again.

Review: January 19, 2015Completion: May 23, 2007

I had an Interlock roof put on several years ago and I am not sure I agree with the statement “more expensive, sure”. While it does cost more to put on the roof, I think the payback more than covers the extra price. I am sitting in my attic office, a place that got cold even with the heat this time of year, it is warm now. It stays cooler in the summer as well which saves on cooling costs. The sales person told me that it would be the case but I really didn’t believe it. I would buy this roof again in a heartbeat.

Review: June 23, 2014Completion: March 28, 2014

I would not only recommend the product from Interlock Roofing but I would also recommend the installation crew to anyone! I couldn't be more pleased with how my project turned out, the roof is beautiful! I was worried about the new roof being noisy, but it is quieter than my old roof and I can even sleep through major thunderstorms! I was worried about the possibility of an unprofessional installation crew, but my salesperson assured me all of the Interlock Roofing crews are professional in every way and he was right! I wouldn't change anything about my experience with Interlock Roofing because they did a fantastic job!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Derry

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Derry, New Hampshire. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Derry.

How does a metal roof handle Derry's heavy snow — about 117 cm per year — without ice dams?

Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow and ice reliably because the smooth, hard surface resists buildup better than asphalt, and metal conducts heat from the sun's 3018 annual sunshine hours, helping prevent ice dams at the eave. The panels are so lightweight (Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) that even significant snow load poses no structural risk, and optional snow guards keep slides manageable. Unlike asphalt, which traps moisture in freeze-thaw cycles — Derry sees about 98 freeze-thaw days yearly — aluminum's oxide layer simply doesn't degrade from repeated freezing and thawing.

Why won't my aluminum roof rust like steel roofing can?

Aluminum contains no iron, so rusting is chemically impossible; it forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air, and that layer automatically repairs itself if scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides, protecting against salt air and Derry's annual 1007 mm of rain. Steel corrodes because iron oxidizes; aluminum never will, making it the only roof material that becomes more corrosion-resistant over time as the oxide layer thickens through its 100+ years of expected service life.

Does freeze-thaw damage aluminum roofing in New England winters?

No — aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splintering, or absorbing water. Derry experiences roughly 98 freeze-thaw cycles annually, which devastates asphalt shingles (they become brittle and curl) and wood shakes (they split), but aluminum simply flexes. The four-way interlocking panels accommodate movement without creating stress points, and the lightweight design (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) never adds structural strain during winter's ice weight. Unlike traditional roofing, Interlock aluminum won't develop the small cracks that allow water infiltration when temperatures swing between freezing and thaw.

Can my house handle a metal roof, or do I need to reinforce the structure?

Your house almost certainly needs no reinforcement — Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile weighs about 0.59 lb/sq ft, roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so it installs directly over most existing roofs and framing without additional bracing. Even the heaviest Interlock profiles weigh far less than asphalt shingles with multiple layers, so older homes and those with modest framing handle the load easily. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 (reissued 2025) confirms installation over existing structures, and the aluminum's strength-to-weight ratio means you gain a roof that resists 120 mph winds and UL 2218 Class 4 hail without the structural cost of slate or traditional tile.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Most homeowners compare Interlock to asphalt shingles over the roof's full life, and aluminum wins on economics once you factor in the math. Asphalt requires replacement every 15–20 years; Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime non-prorated for you and transferable 50 years to the next owner, eliminating the tear-off-and-landfill cycle that costs thousands per replacement. Over 50 years, three asphalt roofs (labor, materials, disposal fees) often exceed Interlock's installed cost, and you never deal with the 1007 mm of annual Derry rainfall degrading your roof or insurance premiums rising due to age. Current financing includes no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the switch affordable now.

Will my metal roof blow off in Derry's winter storms and wind gusts?

No — Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well above Derry's typical gusts of 107 km/h (about 67 mph). The panels interlock on all four sides, creating a unified system that distributes wind load across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners like asphalt shingles do. This design means your roof becomes more resistant to uplift the larger it is — the opposite of how shingles fail. Combined with the aluminum's inherent rigidity and the permanent mechanical lock between panels, your roof will outlast the framing beneath it without ever needing repair from wind damage.

Does a metal roof hold up to hail, and could it lower my insurance costs?

Interlock is rated UL 2218 Class 4 — the highest hail impact classification available — and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, so damage from severe hail is exceptionally rare. Class 4 impact rating often qualifies you for homeowners insurance discounts because insurers recognize the roof's superior durability; contact your agent with the UL 2218 certificate to explore premium reductions. Aluminum's hardness and the panel's engineering mean that even a direct strike simply creates a small dent (cosmetic only) rather than puncture or water infiltration. Many Derry homeowners recover part of the installation cost through lower insurance premiums over just 5–10 years.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood shake?

Interlock aluminum requires virtually no maintenance beyond occasional gutter cleaning — no stain removal, no moss treatment, no individual shingle or shake replacement, and no coating reapplication. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 and D2244 standards), so it resists Derry's 1007 mm annual rainfall and 117 cm snow without degradation. Asphalt shingles need frequent inspection and spot repairs; wood shakes split in freeze-thaw cycles (about 98 per year locally) and invite moss in damp climates. Interlock's non-porous aluminum surface never rots, never splits, never curls, and never requires the seasonal maintenance that traditional roofing demands — you genuinely install it and forget it.

Is metal roofing actually better for the environment?

Yes — Interlock aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, whereas asphalt shingles end up in landfills by the millions of tons yearly with no recovery value. Over a homeowner's lifetime, choosing Interlock instead of asphalt eliminates two or three complete roof tear-offs and disposals, each generating significant waste and transportation emissions. The aluminum itself is infinitely recyclable without loss of properties, so your roof becomes a resource, not refuse. Because Interlock installs over existing roofs (thanks to its ultra-light weight), you also avoid the carbon and cost of tear-off labor. For a climate-conscious homeowner in Derry experiencing about 3018 sunshine hours annually, pairing this durable, recyclable roof with solar panels is seamless — no roofing replacement will interrupt future solar installation.

Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Derry, and do they know our local weather?

Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999, so they understand Derry's freeze-thaw cycles (roughly 98 annually), heavy snow load (about 117 cm per year), and wind gusts up to 107 km/h — they've installed hundreds of roofs through these exact conditions. The parent company manufactures in Delta, BC, and has installed in climates from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, so your local installer combines regional expertise with proven engineering across extreme environments. They'll ensure your roof is installed to specification for 120 mph wind warranty coverage and proper snow-load handling, and they know exactly how Derry's 1007 mm annual rainfall will interact with your specific roof pitch and drainage. You're getting both local knowledge and access to a manufacturer backing every installation with the Guardian lifetime warranty.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Derry’s climate?

Yes. Derry averages about 117 cm of snow, 1007 mm of rain, roughly 98 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 107 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
