Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Tigard, Oregon
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Interlock was a great process, their sales team was very helpful and knowledgeable, the install team had the old roofing removed and the new one installed in a few days. We chose the black "slate" panels and it looks awesome and it doesn't sound much different in the rain than our old asphalt shingles. A bit of an investment but I'm glad we went with interlock.
We were so impressed with Interlock Roofing. The entire process was great from sales, to installation to clean up. They made the process easy even when we had a few curveballs for them. They worked with us wonderfully the entire time and our roof looks amazing. The installation team was so nice and respectful. Our roof is beautiful.
It's expensive, but other than that - a great roof. Interlock Roofing could have improved on their communication between salesman and installers.
Interlock Roofing did a very good job of installing our roof. I was worried that it would be a little too hard to do this in the middle of winter, but they did a great job. I would recommend this company to anyone contemplating a metal roof for their home. The only negative comment I have is the clean-up could have been a bit better. I covered my gutters after the roof was installed, and found a lot of debris in the gutters as well as on the ground. The debris were mostly pieces of cut metal tiles with very sharp edges. In fact I found this debris on the ground for several months after the job was completed. I suspect that the installation crew was cold and tired and may not have taken as much time as they normally would have because of the weather. Our expectations of this medium ( metal) was fully confirmed and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Thank you Ralf C.
We live in Tigard Oregon. We were able to schedule the installation of the new roof just before the Rainy season began. We had the old shingles removed and found that our plywood was rotting and that it could not support the nails for the new metal roof. Interlock removed the rotting plywood and then we found that some of the supporting roof truss pieces were also rotting and cracking. So Interlock also replaced them. The price for the additional work was reasonable and though it all took longer to accomplish the goal, they worked hard and efficiently and it was completed before it began raining seriously. We continue to be thankful and we enjoy our new roof!
with the price of the product and the amount of delays I would not recommend this product. Deliver on the start dates.
We are just trying to put together a list of things we need to do before we call you guys to come do our roof.
Would like more information on financing and terms.
Being able to pay with credit card also.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Tigard
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Tigard, Oregon. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Tigard.
Can aluminum metal roofing rust? Why is it better than steel for Tigard's rainy climate?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. Instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal even when scratched. In Tigard's wet environment—averaging 1208 mm of rain annually with 37 freeze-thaw days per year—this is critical. Steel roofing can corrode from moisture cycles, but aluminum's chemistry makes it immune. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy, plus a Alunar 70% PVDF coating warranted 30 years against fading, giving you dual protection in a climate where moisture is constant.
Do metal roofs leak in heavy rain? How does Tigard's rainfall affect the design?
Tigard receives about 1208 mm of rain yearly, so your roof must shed water reliably. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a locked seam system that prevents water infiltration at panel edges. The panels install over solid deck with underlayment—the same water-shedding principle as asphalt shingles, not exposed fasteners. With proper installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., which has served your region since 1997, water runs off before it reaches seams. The interlocking design itself becomes your first line of defense against the Pacific Northwest's persistent rainfall.
Will a metal roof blow off in Tigard's wind and storms?
Tigard experiences gusts up to 120 km/h, and Interlock's roof is warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together mechanically, creating a unified system rather than individual shingles that can lift. Each panel's edges interlock with its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof. This design earned an ICC-ES evaluation report (ESR-1790, reissued 2025) for compliance with current building codes. Even in Pacific Northwest windstorms, the interlocking prevents the progressive failure that can plague other roofing systems.
Does metal roofing hold up to hail? Can I get an insurance discount in Tigard?
Yes. Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Oregon insurers recognize this durability. Many homeowners see premium reductions after switching to impact-rated metal, since metal roofs outlast asphalt through multiple hail seasons without loss of protection. Tigard's average annual conditions (37 freeze-thaw days) can make asphalt brittle; aluminum maintains its integrity. Contact your insurer with Interlock's UL 2218 Class 4 rating to discuss discounts—many carriers offer them for non-combustible, high-impact roofing.
Do metal roofs reduce cooling costs? How much does Tigard's sun help?
Tigard averages about 3033 sunshine hours per year. Interlock's energy-efficient colors feature thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55, reflecting heat that asphalt absorbs. CCRC-rated Cool Roof colors reduce surface temperature in summer, lowering air-conditioning load. The effect is modest in mild Pacific Northwest climates—Tigard's mean is 11.2°C—but cumulative over 40+ years. Every degree of cooling savings compounds across decades. If you plan to live here long-term, the reflective coating pays dividends during summer peaks and reduces your carbon footprint year-round.
Is metal roofing fire-safe? Does Tigard's fire code matter?
Yes. Interlock offers Class A fire classification on non-combustible aluminum—the highest fire rating available. The material itself cannot ignite. Oregon's fire codes recognize non-combustible roofing as a protective asset, especially in communities near wildland interfaces. Even in suburban Tigard, a Class A roof can lower insurance rates and may be required by municipal code or HOA. Aluminum's non-combustibility also means the roof won't contribute to flame spread or smoke production in an adjacent fire. Request energy-efficiency colors with Class A rating to maximize both energy performance and fire safety.
Is metal roofing cheaper than asphalt over 40 years? How does the math work?
Metal roofing costs more upfront but outlasts asphalt by decades. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years in Tigard's wet, freeze-thaw environment (37 freeze-thaw cycles annually); metal roofs last 40–70 years. Over that span, you replace asphalt 2–3 times, each tear-off costing labor and landfill fees. Interlock's Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, transferable for 50 years to the next owner—eliminating replacement anxiety. When you factor in avoided labor, repeated tear-offs, and the resale premium a metal roof commands, the total cost of ownership favors metal decisively. Current promotion: no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?
Interlock metal roofing is nearly maintenance-free. Unlike asphalt, it doesn't crack, curl, or lose granules in Tigard's 1208 mm of annual rain and 29 cm of snow. Unlike wood shake, it won't split or rot. Unlike tile, panels won't break if you walk on them. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (tested to ASTM D4214/D2244). Annual gutter cleaning is standard for any roof; beyond that, metal requires only occasional inspection. The Guardian Warranty covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance—all failure modes that plague traditional materials. In the Pacific Northwest's damp climate, this peace of mind is invaluable.
What's the warranty on Interlock metal roofing, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is lifetime limited and non-prorated for the original owner, covering material defects including rust, rot, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact loss. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a rare feature that boosts resale appeal. Real-world durability: Interlock has manufactured aluminum roofing since 1998 and installed everything from coastal salt-air homes to Antarctic research stations, proving performance across extreme climates. Tigard's conditions (1208 mm rain, 37 freeze-thaw days, gusts to 120 km/h) are well within aluminum's proven range. Many homeowners view this as their last roof, retiring the cycle of replacement that asphalt demands every 15–20 years.
