Never have them do business with them. Not honest, transparent. They then tried to take legal action against me. Transparency and being honest. They used subcontractors. They should not be rude and disrespectful to their customers. Patrick should be fired.

Jonathan, Thank you, Interlock Roofing, for providing a high-quality product and professional installation from which we will receive years of permanent protection from the elements. In addition, the really great thing is how the new roof has transformed this flat-roof ’60s Seattle house! We’re not in the ’60s anymore. We’ve just completed the worst Seattle winter in 30 years, and the application and quality of the materials is beyond expectations. We have been enjoying the roof through the high winter winds and rain and " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">hail and snow of the Pacific Northwest. People ask if it is noisy when it rains. It is even quieter than the old roof we just replaced. The installation only took about four days. Vladimir and Greg, our installers, were very friendly and worked diligently. They took the time to explain what they were going to do and how they were going to do it. Their craftsmanship really shows on the finished roof, even down to the trim around the chimney. It looks great! There is no moss, no mold, and no fir needles. We won’t hesitate to recommend Interlock Roofing whenever we have an opportunity. This company has developed a product that really measures up to everything it advertises.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Des Moines

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Des Moines, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Des Moines.

How does a metal roof handle snow and ice buildup in Des Moines winters?

Metal roofs shed snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface prevents the bond that causes ice dams. With Des Moines averaging about 33 cm of snow annually and roughly 21 freeze-thaw cycles per year, that cycling works against traditional shingles but not against aluminum. The four-way interlocking panels lock together so tightly that no water penetrates, and you can add snow guards if you want controlled shedding. The weight advantage matters too—Interlock Shake weighs just 0.58 lb/sq ft, so accumulated snow won't strain your structure.

Why won't an aluminum metal roof rust like steel roofing can?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—rust requires iron oxide to form. Instead, aluminum develops a transparent oxide layer that self-heals when scratched, so the metal stays protected without ongoing maintenance. In King County's wet climate—1280 mm of rain per year—that oxide layer is constantly renewing itself. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) finished with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against fading. Steel roofs require active maintenance and eventually corrode; aluminum just works.

Will my metal roof hold up in King County wind gusts?

Yes. Des Moines typical gusts reach about 101 km/h, and Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels create a unified system that moves as one rather than individual shingles peeling away. The warranty covers wind performance explicitly, and with gusts in this region regularly topping 100 km/h, that margin of safety keeps your roof intact through seasonal weather swings. Installation to spec means proper fastening into the deck—something your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has perfected since 1997.

Does a metal roof actually resist hail, and could it lower my insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That real, testable rating often catches the attention of homeowners insurers, who may offer discounts for non-impact-vulnerable roofs. While hail isn't a major statistical threat in Des Moines (annual data centers on 2931 sunshine hours and 1280 mm rainfall), the durability story signals to insurers that you've chosen a roof that won't generate claim frequency. Check with your carrier about available discounts for Class 4-rated installation.

What warranty does Interlock Metal Roofing actually offer, and how long will the roof last?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty to the original owner—it covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion, which strengthens resale appeal. Real-world installed examples range from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station, all manufactured since 1998. In Des Moines' 11.3°C average climate with 21 annual freeze-thaw cycles, the aluminum and Alunar 30-year coating warranty handle thermal cycling reliably. This is the last roof you'll install on that house.

Is a metal roof worth the cost compared to replacing asphalt shingles every 15 years?

Metal roofing costs more upfront than asphalt, but over 40+ years you replace asphalt 3 to 4 times while Interlock roof lasts a lifetime under the Guardian Warranty. Asphalt shingles typically need replacement every 15–20 years; each cycle means tear-off labor, landfill disposal, and new materials. With Des Moines' 1280 mm annual rainfall and 21 freeze-thaw days, asphalt degrades faster here than in milder climates. The current promotion—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off—makes the entry point more manageable. Spread the cost over the roof's actual lifespan and aluminum becomes economical.

Will a metal roof reduce my cooling costs in summer?

energy-efficient Interlock colors with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, lowering attic temperatures and cooling load. In a region averaging 2931 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance matters across late spring through early fall. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings back the performance claim. Coupled with Des Moines' moderate 11.3°C annual mean temperature, you won't see dramatic summer savings like in hot climates, but you will eliminate the attic heat spike that pushes HVAC harder. The benefit compounds over 40+ years.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Virtually none compared to asphalt, wood, or tile. Interlock aluminum panels don't require sealing, recoating, moss treatment, or algae removal. With Des Moines' 1280 mm annual rainfall, a simple rinse from gutters ensures no debris accumulation; the hard, smooth surface won't trap standing water like organic shingles. No splitting, no curling, no granule loss. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. Compare that to asphalt shingles needing inspection after high winds or hail, wood shakes requiring annual treatment, or clay tiles needing pointing repair. CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance demands. Once installed, a metal roof mostly takes care of itself.

Do I need to reinforce my roof structure for metal roofing?

No. Interlock Slate, Cedar Shingle, and Shake profiles are extraordinarily light—Shake installs at 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile profile at 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. That weight savings means most homes install Interlock directly over existing roofing without structural reinforcement. The aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) provides the strength to span roof framing normally, so you avoid costly beam or rafter upgrades. ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 confirms code compliance for installation as a direct replacement. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW), will assess your specific framing, but in the vast majority of King County homes, no structural work is needed.

What does installation look like, and how long does it take?

Interlock installs over your existing roof in most cases, eliminating tear-off labor and disposal cost. The four-way interlocking panels snap together and fasten to the deck—no complicated flashing or sealants to fail. A typical residential roof takes a few days depending on size and pitch. Because aluminum weighs so little (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft), crews move faster than with traditional materials and there's no structural strain during installation. Your local installer, Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., has been refining this process since 1997 across the region. They'll schedule around Des Moines' weather and walk you through the timeline before starting.
