Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Spanaway, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Ivan replaced our exhaust vent on the roof that had some leaking issue. We were impressed with his professionalism, courtesy and fixing the problem to our utmost satisfaction. We certainly would recommend him and the company for any roofing issues being it a new roof or repairs.
Of the five name brand roofing contractors I screened for this project I chose Interlock and I am very pleased with the roof. Coordination and communication was critical especially since Interlock was to perform the installation immediately following another contractor performing a siding replacement. Communication with the interlock team was great and they remained flexible. Interlock was able to adjust their installation timeline as issues popped up with the siding project. Interlock promptly scheduled and dispatched materials and crew as soon as the siding contractor cleared out. I was a bit concerned about introducing a ">metal roof to the neighborhood, but could not be happier with the end result. In an effort to help tie everything together I had the siding contractor match the fascia wrap and gutters to the interlock ">roof black slate finish. The installation team was courteous, professional, and they notified me of any issues they ran across with the structure during the tear-off phase. Clean-up performed by the installation team was better than that performed by other contractors that had worked at the site. Great attention to detail and they took extra measures to protect sensitive areas around the house. I am currently working with their finance department as I Refinance the house and they are by far the friendliest finance team I have ever worked with. Great communication and customer care standards! The roof looks amazing and definitely grabs the attention of people driving by. The most amusing reaction so far was while I was watering the plants in the front yard a vehicle drove by, stopped abruptly, turned around, and pulled up into the driveway. A salesman in corporate attire for another roofing company stepped out of the vehicle and started asking questions about the roof. I was very familiar with the brand he represented because their product is rated among the best asphalt roofing products in the country. I thought that was quite amusing because here I am giving him contact information for a competitor . He was interested in something similar for his home so we talked for a bit about the Interlock Roof and he was very impressed. Reminded me of those old Coke versus Pepsi commercials.
In 2004 my wife and I decided to purchase the lifetime Interlock Roof. I was fifty at the time and had been called over to my Father In Laws house several times to clean out his gutters and clean off his roof with a pressure washer. I told my wife I did not want our kids to have to do that for us in our later years. The situation with my in-laws provided the motivation to start the search for a permanent roof. We landed on the Interlock Roof at the Western Washington Fair in 2004. The roof was installed and have not had any problems afterwards. There are some idiosyncrasies with this type of roof: The roof is not made to be walked on When it snows the snow builds up for a 1 to 3-inch amount and then slides off the roof and onto the ground below The roof keeps its original look, never needs to be pressure washed off or any other maintenance. We are very satisfied with the roof and very glad we will never have to purchase another roof again.
We just wanted to let you know how thoroughly-pleased we are with our new Interlock Roof. It is absolutely beautiful and we have had a lot of people stopping as they walk or drive by to admire how nice it looks. Everything progressed on the job exactly as you had shared with us when we signed the contract. There were no surprises. From the beginning when we got the call to set up a start date, to the final clean up and retrieval of the waste bin everything was handled so professionally. Viktor and Alex were a dream to work with-so-pleasant and each day everything was left so tidy that it would have been hard for guests to tell that we were in the middle of a re-roofing job. We will highly recommend your product and doing business with such a professional and obviously well run company.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Spanaway
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Spanaway, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Spanaway.
Will a metal roof hold up to Spanaway's freeze-thaw cycles?
Yes—aluminum actually thrives in freeze-thaw conditions because it has no iron and cannot rust, even when expanding and contracting through Spanaway's approximately 46 annual freeze-thaw days. Unlike asphalt shingles, which crack and curl as moisture penetrates and freezes beneath them, Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy expands and contracts uniformly without degradation. The self-healing oxide layer on aluminum also resists the corrosive effects of repeated temperature swings, making it far more durable than materials that depend on a static coating to survive cycles like yours.
How does Interlock handle Spanaway's heavy rainfall without leaking?
Spanaway receives about 1,195 mm of rain annually, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed water by design—each panel overlaps its neighbors on all four sides, forcing water downward and outward with no seams for moisture to penetrate. Combined with a solid deck and underlayment (which muffles rain noise to asphalt-shingle levels), the system achieves ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliance for water management under IBC/IRC standards. The interlocking geometry also prevents water from ever reaching the fastener holes, so leaks at vulnerable points—common with shingle roofs—simply do not occur.
Can Interlock metal roofing handle Spanaway's wind gusts?
Spanaway experiences gusts up to 98 km/h, and Interlock is warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h)—well above your region's peak conditions. The four-way interlocking system mechanically locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, distributing uplift forces across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on individual fasteners. This geometry is why the warranty covers such extreme wind loads: the panels work as a unified structure, not as separate shingles vulnerable to flutter or edge-lift.
Do I need to reinforce my roof framing for an Interlock metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at only 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that most existing residential framing accepts it without modification. To put this in perspective, the Tile profile, which looks like heavy concrete or clay, weighs about 96% less than the real thing yet meets the same aesthetic expectations. This lightweight design means you avoid tens of thousands of dollars in structural upgrades while gaining a roof that outlasts multiple asphalt installations and can often go directly over your existing roof.
Why doesn't an aluminum roof rust in Spanaway's wet climate?
Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), which contains no iron and therefore cannot rust—a fundamental material property, not a coating trick. Even if scratched during installation or by weather, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals, closing off the bare metal from the environment. In salt-air climates and humid regions like yours, this matters tremendously: steel roofs require constant coating vigilance, while aluminum becomes more stable over time. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish (both sides, 30-year warranty) adds further protection, but rusting itself is physically impossible with this alloy.
How does Interlock handle snow accumulation in Spanaway winters?
Spanaway averages about 30 cm of snow annually across a typical winter. Interlock's smooth, interlocking profile sheds snow and ice efficiently—the panels' low friction coefficient and angled geometry prevent dangerous accumulation on steep roofs and reduce the likelihood of ice-dam formation along gutters. Unlike asphalt shingles, which develop rough, weathered surfaces that grab and hold snow, aluminum maintains a consistent, smooth finish even after decades. Snow guards are available if you want to slow shedding for safety reasons, but the roof's natural design already promotes melt-through and drainage far better than traditional materials.
What maintenance does an Interlock metal roof actually need?
Interlock requires only occasional visual inspection and gutter cleaning—no coating reapplication, no shingle replacement, no wood treatment. Asphalt roofs demand re-coating every 10–15 years; wood shakes need stain and fungicide; tile and concrete require periodic sealing. Interlock's Alunar 70% PVDF finish is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 standards), so the appearance and protective properties remain stable through Spanaway's 2,943 annual sunshine hours and regular wet seasons. You clean your gutters, and the roof cleans itself.
What does Interlock's lifetime warranty actually cover and for how long?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated, lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance with no dollar cap and no time limits. When you sell, it becomes a one-time transferable 50-year warranty for the next owner, adding significant resale appeal. This structure reflects Interlock's confidence in the product: roofing-grade aluminum simply does not degrade in ways that asphalt, wood, or concrete do. You are buying the last roof you will install on your home, and the next owner gets decades of additional protection.
How does Interlock's cost compare to asphalt over 40+ years?
Interlock costs more upfront than asphalt but eliminates the replacement cycle. Asphalt requires tear-off and reinstallation every 15–25 years; each cycle costs thousands in labor, disposal, and materials. Over 40 years, a home might need 2–3 asphalt replacements. Interlock installs once and lasts your lifetime plus the next owner's 50-year transfer term. When you factor in maintenance (asphalt needs periodic repairs and recoating), energy savings from reflective coatings with up to 0.55 solar reflectance, and the transferable warranty boost to home value, Interlock becomes the lower total-cost option. Current financing—no payments or interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—makes the entry cost manageable.
Is Interlock metal roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt?
Yes. Interlock is approximately 95% recyclable at end of life, while asphalt shingles end up in landfills—breaking down over decades and releasing binders and granules into soil. Over your roof's lifetime, you avoid the landfill impact of 2–3 asphalt tear-offs, each weighing several tons. Aluminum's recyclability also means old Interlock panels have genuine scrap value, incentivizing proper disposal. The manufacturing process in Delta, BC (since 1998) uses established, efficient extrusion and coating methods. By choosing a roof you install once and keep for 50+ years, you reduce the total material consumption and waste footprint of your home—CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance impact.
