Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Stanwood, Washington
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
We have the InterLock sigh out front and are awaiting the chance for a video flyover. I would hire them again.
The product is fine but it was just the service to put it on the roof that was horrible. We were treated so poorly considering we spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on our roof. They lied to us over and over saying they were going to be there the next day then they don't show up. We call and they bring out one guy. This happened over and over as well. We are not satisfied with the company who sent the workers out because they lied to us but the workers were fine. They could improve on communicating truthfully. They said they would deliver materials on Friday and did not come for about a week.
To Whom It May Concern: It is our pleasure to highly recommend Ross and Interlock Roofing for your next roofing project. Our roof was installed in August of 2017 it’s amazing the performance it provides to our home. The temperature indoors during the summer is cooler allowing energy savings, our Shake profile stands out with lasting beauty and durability. The installation crew is as great as the product they are polite and professional and went above our expectations they answered all our questions with no concerns. Our investment to have Interlock roof on our home gives us Peace of mind knowing for years to come we will never have to worry about our roof again. We would not hesitate to recommend Interlock Roofs and their awesome products to anyone looking for a new roof.
The sales guy was great and I love the product.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Stanwood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Stanwood, Washington. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Stanwood.
Will a metal roof rust in Stanwood's rainy climate?
No. Interlock roofs are made from 3105-H24 aluminum alloy, which contains no iron and cannot rust. Aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal even when scratched. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish is applied to both sides of every panel—extra defense against Snohomish County's 1148 mm annual rainfall and salt-air exposure. The coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, so your roof resists corrosion year after year while asphalt degrades.
How does a metal roof handle Stanwood's snow and ice?
Interlock's four-way interlocking panels are engineered to shed snow and resist ice dams. The lightweight design—about 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—distributes snow loads efficiently without straining your structure. Stanwood receives roughly 37 cm of snow annually and experiences about 31 freeze-thaw cycles per year, which cause asphalt to crack and curl. Metal's smooth surface and expansion properties reduce ice backup, and optional snow guards let you control shedding. The warranty covers performance through these repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Can a metal roof withstand Stanwood's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification. Snohomish County's typical gusts reach 112 km/h, well within the roof's design envelope. The four-way interlocking system locks panels together on all edges, preventing uplift and edge separation that plague shingle roofs. Unlike asphalt, which tears and lifts in high wind, aluminum's rigid construction and mechanical fastening keep it secure through the region's winter and spring storm season.
Do I need to reinforce my roof for a metal installation?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—it installs at roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft, while traditional tile weighs 15+ lb/sq ft. Even the heaviest Interlock profile weighs less than asphalt shingles. Because the panels are so light, the roof can be installed directly over most existing roofs without strengthening beams or framing. Your home's structure bears no additional burden, making the upgrade cost-effective and fast.
Will heavy rain leak through a metal roof?
No. Interlock's four-way interlocking design and sealed seams prevent water penetration. Snohomish County receives about 1148 mm of rain annually—enough to test any roof—and Interlock's lap-lock system channels water downward and outward. The panels interlock on all four sides, eliminating gaps that allow water to migrate under shingles. Combined with proper underlayment and the installation expertise of Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., which has served the region since 1997, your roof sheds rain as efficiently as asphalt but without the deterioration asphalt suffers from constant moisture exposure.
Will a metal roof reduce my heating and cooling costs?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Select Interlock profiles with thermal emissivity of 0.84 and solar reflectance up to 0.55 reduce heat absorption. Stanwood averages about 2898 sunshine hours per year; reflective coatings bounce that solar load away instead of letting your roof absorb it like asphalt does. In summer, this lowers cooling demand. The Cool Roof Rating Council verification confirms measurable energy savings. Winter heating benefit comes from the roof's durability—you keep it for 50+ years instead of replacing asphalt every 15–20 years, eliminating the energy cost of manufacturing replacement shingles.
Does hail damage a metal roof, and could it lower insurance?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the warranty covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. While Snohomish County's climate data doesn't show frequent severe hail, the Class 4 rating means the roof outperforms asphalt, wood, and tile in impact resistance. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ESR-1790 code compliance document to explore savings. The non-prorated lifetime limited warranty backing the roof's impact integrity may also appeal to underwriters.
What warranty covers a metal roof, and how long does it really last?
The Guardian Warranty is a non-prorated lifetime limited material warranty for the original owner, covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. It transfers once to the next owner for 50 years from completion—a significant resale advantage. Because Interlock panels are aluminum with a 30-year-warranted Alunar coating, they won't degrade like asphalt (15–20 years) or wood shake (20–30 years). Real-world installations span 25+ years in coastal salt air and Antarctic research stations. In Stanwood's 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw cycles, aluminum's stability shines. This is genuinely the last roof you buy.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need?
Virtually none. Unlike asphalt, which requires periodic sealing and shingle replacement, or wood shake, which needs annual treatment for mold and rot, Interlock aluminum is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance. Snohomish County's 1148 mm annual rainfall and 31 freeze-thaw days accelerate asphalt deterioration and wood rot, but aluminum oxide resists both. A simple annual gutter cleaning is all you need. No power washing, no sealant reapplication, no algae treatment. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating doesn't chalk or fade for 30 years. Your time and money stay in your pocket, not on roof maintenance.
Is a metal roof better for the environment?
Yes. Interlock aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable at end of life, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle. Every replacement asphalt roof generates tons of waste; Interlock breaks that pattern. Because the roof lasts 50+ years instead of 15–20, you avoid multiple manufacturing cycles and replacements over a century. The lightweight design means fewer installation trucks and fuel. Snohomish County's 1148 mm annual rainfall won't degrade aluminum, so you never dump water-logged shingles into landfills. The coating is PVDF fluorocarbon—proven durable and free of the volatile compounds that plague cheaper finishes. Choosing Interlock removes hundreds of pounds of waste from your local waste stream.
