Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Lake Michigan Beach, Wisconsin
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
Better communication regarding start date & delivery of materials - whether permit was obtained. Cleanup at completion needs improvement.
In March 2017 we had an Interlock Lifetime Roof installed. Greg Weber, the salesman, was not pushy. We were very impressed with his salesmanship and the product. He also offered to have the Interlock product put on our wishing well in the front yard. That was something we really appreciated. The clean-up was excellent! Many neighbors and people who " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by the house have noticed the roof and asked a lot of questions. We have gotten lots of compliments!
We had gutter covers installed about 3 years prior to our getting our new roof. Once the new roof was installed we realized the old gutter covers could not be put back on. So there is some additional expense involved in that. In the future, that might be something to make the homeowner aware of. Maybe, new gutter covers could be part of the deal for the new roof.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Lake Michigan Beach
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Lake Michigan Beach, Wisconsin. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Lake Michigan Beach.
How does metal roofing handle Lake Michigan Beach's heavy snow loads and freeze-thaw cycles?
Interlock aluminum panels shed snow effectively because the smooth, hard surface prevents ice dam formation—critical in a region that averages about 101 cm of snow annually and experiences roughly 51 freeze-thaw days per year. The four-way interlocking system distributes load evenly across the structure, and aluminum's non-corrosive properties mean repeated freeze-thaw stress doesn't degrade the material. Unlike asphalt, which becomes brittle in cold cycles, the 3105-H24 aluminum alloy maintains flexibility and integrity season after season.
Why doesn't aluminum roofing rust in coastal Sheboygan County's salty air?
Aluminum is iron-free and cannot rust—only aluminum oxide forms on its surface, which self-heals when scratched. This matters in Sheboygan County's humid, salt-influenced climate. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating (applied to both sides of every panel) provides a 30-year warranty against chalking and fading, adding a protective barrier that keeps the underlying aluminum safe. Steel roofing requires constant maintenance to prevent rust; Interlock aluminum simply does not corrode, regardless of salt spray or moisture.
Is metal roofing really worth the cost compared to asphalt shingles?
Metal roofing costs more upfront but becomes your last roof purchase. Asphalt typically lasts 15–20 years and requires multiple cycles of tear-off, landfill fees, and reinstallation over a homeowner's lifetime. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty (non-prorated for the original owner, transferable to the next owner for 50 years) eliminates that cycle. In Lake Michigan Beach's climate—with about 725 mm of annual rain and 101 cm of snow—durability directly cuts long-term cost. When you factor in no maintenance, no replacements, and one-time installation, metal roofing recovers its investment within 15–20 years and saves thousands thereafter.
Will a metal roof withstand Lake Michigan Beach's wind gusts?
Yes. Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h) when installed to specification—far exceeding typical Lake Michigan gusts (average daily-max winds around 35 km/h, with gusts to 104 km/h). The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors horizontally and vertically, so wind cannot work panels loose. This interlocking system, combined with proper fastening, creates a unified roof system rather than independent shingles. Your metal roof will remain secure even in the region's strongest seasonal winds.
Does metal roofing require expensive structural reinforcement?
No. Interlock panels are extraordinarily light—the Shake profile weighs about 0.58 lb/sq ft and the Mediterranean Tile approximately 0.59 lb/sq ft, making it roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile. This means most homes need no structural upgrade. You can install a metal roof directly over an existing asphalt roof without adding support beams or reinforcement. In Lake Michigan Beach, where many homes were built decades ago, this weight advantage eliminates costly framing work and allows faster installation, keeping your project on schedule and budget.
How does freeze-thaw cycling affect aluminum metal roofing?
Freeze-thaw stress does not damage aluminum. With about 51 freeze-thaw days annually in the Lake Michigan Beach area, expansion and contraction are constant. Aluminum's molecular structure remains stable through these cycles—it does not become brittle, crack, or lose integrity the way asphalt shingles do. The Alunar coating, warranted for 30 years against fading and chalking per ASTM D4214 and D2244, protects the surface through thousands of freeze-thaw events. Wood shingles split and curl; asphalt hardens and becomes fragile. Aluminum simply absorbs the stress without degradation.
Can I get insurance discounts for a metal roof in Wisconsin's hail zone?
Possibly. Interlock holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Many insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4 impact-rated roofs because the likelihood of claims drops dramatically. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES evaluation ESR-1790 documentation. Wisconsin insurers increasingly recognize metal roofing's superior durability in hail-prone regions. Your improved risk profile can translate directly to lower annual premiums over the roof's 50-year lifespan.
How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or wood?
Virtually none. Asphalt requires regular inspection, shingle replacement, gutter clearing, and moss/algae treatment. Wood shingles need sealant reapplication, splitting repair, and frequent replacement. Interlock aluminum requires no coating touch-ups, no sealant renewals, and no material repairs. Gutters need routine cleaning (standard for all roofs), but the roof itself is maintenance-free. Lake Michigan Beach's 101 cm annual snowfall and 725 mm rain don't degrade aluminum. The CALGreen-verified roofing system is specifically rated for reduced maintenance. Over 50 years, the time and money you save by not maintaining a metal roof is substantial.
Who installs Interlock metal roofing in Lake Michigan Beach?
Interlock Metal Roofing has been serving the region since 2001 with direct, local installation. The company manufactures Interlock panels in Delta, BC, and has installed roofing in climates ranging from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station—experience that translates to expertise in Sheboygan County's demanding freeze-thaw and snow environment. Your local installer understands Lake Michigan Beach conditions and can ensure proper fastening, interlocking, and flashing to achieve the full 120 mph wind warranty and long-term performance. Local service also means responsive follow-up and warranty support without middlemen.
Do Interlock metal roofs reduce cooling costs in summer?
Yes, when you choose energy-efficient colors. Interlock offers profiles with thermal emissivity up to 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny), rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These colors reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, keeping attics cooler and reducing air-conditioning load during Lake Michigan Beach's warmer months. With about 3,112 annual sunshine hours, reflective coatings provide measurable cooling benefit. Combined with the roof's 30-year coating warranty, energy-efficiency colors maintain their reflectance over decades, delivering consistent summer cooling and lower utility bills without recoating.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Lake Michigan Beach’s climate?
Yes. Lake Michigan Beach averages about 101 cm of snow, 725 mm of rain, roughly 51 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 104 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
