Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Ravenna

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Ravenna often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Ravenna may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

A metal roof in Ravenna commonly lasts 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles typically need replacement much sooner (15–25 years). Ravenna experiences a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and notable spring/summer rainfall—conditions that accelerate asphalt aging but are less damaging to metal roofing. Proximity to the Blue Mountains/Georgian Bay can increase lake-effect snow and moisture, raising snow-load and ice-dam risk on roofs, so homeowners favour durable systems that resist heavy snow, freeze–thaw and wind. Metal resists rot, shed snow and tolerates repeated freeze cycles better than asphalt, and performs well against wind and hail. For long-term protection, Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy-gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50-year transferable warranty designed for extended durability in Ravenna’s climate.
Metal roofs in Ravenna, ON usually cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but final price varies with roof size, slope, complexity, tear-off, flashing, skylights and labour. Local conditions—notably substantial winter snow loads and the region’s frequent freeze–thaw cycles—affect material choices and installation details, which can raise costs for sturdier underlayments, ice‑dam protection and stronger attachments. Because of those factors, contractors may price for extra labour and materials. Many homeowners compare options by lifetime value rather than initial price: a durable metal roof can reduce future repair and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing positions its systems for long‑term ownership value—prioritizing longevity, warranty and lower lifecycle costs rather than competing as the low‑cost roofing option.
Short answer: metal roofing is often worth the extra cost in Ravenna if you prioritise durability and long‑term protection, but asphalt shingles can be a lower‑cost option for shorter ownership horizons. Lifespan: metal 40–70+ years vs asphalt 15–25 years. Maintenance: metal needs little upkeep and resists moss; asphalt requires more frequent inspection, moss/flake removal and earlier replacement. Durability: metal sheds snow and resists freeze–thaw and wind better; asphalt is more prone to curling, granule loss and ice‑dam damage over repeated freeze–thaw cycles. Long‑term value: higher initial cost for metal typically pays back via longer life, fewer repairs and better resale value. Local note: Ravenna sees regular winter snow and freeze–thaw stress that accelerates shingle wear, and humid spring/fall conditions encourage moss on shaded roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to homeowners seeking long‑term performance, snow shedding, low maintenance and strong architectural curb appeal.
This is a common myth — modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking don’t sound like barn roofs. In Ravenna, ON, significant winter snow and frequent freeze–thaw cycles (and local spring/fall humidity that encourages moss in shaded areas) influence roof design and insulation choices, which affect sound. Insulation, attic volume and the full roof assembly (decking, underlayment, battens) reduce rain noise, and quality installation matters. From inside a properly insulated home the rain sound is typically indistinguishable from asphalt shingle. Properly installed residential metal roofs are therefore similar in sound to other materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and fitted as complete residential roofing systems.
Yes — a metal roof can be energy efficient in Ravenna. Metal panels reflect sunlight to reduce summer cooling loads, and when paired with the right roof assembly, continuous insulation and balanced ventilation they also help control heat loss in winter. Local climate matters: Ravenna sees cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw swings, so retaining heat and preventing ice dams are priorities for net energy performance. Homeowners researching replacements often weigh energy savings, comfort, and long‑term operating costs alongside durability and maintenance. Proper insulation, airtight air barriers and attic ventilation usually have as much impact on bills as the roof material itself. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support those assembly‑level goals and long‑term home performance.
Q: How does metal roofing perform in Ravenna, ON severe weather? A: Ravenna experiences strong seasonal winds and frequent precipitation, with locally variable rain and wind events that can occur year‑round, and the area is affected by lake‑effect heavy snow and freeze–thaw cycles from Lake Erie during winter. Properly designed and installed metal roofs shed snow, resist ice-related damage, and can withstand high winds and hail—performance still hinges on system design, installer quality, and material durability (gauge, coating, attachment details). Homeowners weigh weather resilience because it affects longevity, maintenance, insurance and resale value. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, but ensure the specific profile, substrate fastening, and flashings are specified for Ravenna’s snow loads and wind conditions.
FAQ: Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing — In Ravenna, ON, heavy winter snowfall, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation increase moisture exposure and corrosion risk. Metal roofing performance depends on the metal: steel, galvanized or galvalume, and aluminium behave differently. Some alloys and coatings resist corrosion far better; aluminium naturally forms a protective oxide and performs well in wet or near‑coastal conditions. Homeowners should prioritise corrosion resistance here because repeated wetting, snow loads and freeze–thaw stress accelerate coating wear and metal degradation, affecting longevity and maintenance. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminium construction for strong corrosion resistance and are further protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra durability — a good choice for Ravenna homeowners.
As a homeowner in Ravenna comparing roofing materials: metal roofing is generally low‑maintenance and very durable, resisting rot, moss and ice‑related damage better than asphalt shingles. No roof is completely maintenance‑free, so inspect your metal roof at least twice a year and after heavy storms. Check for accumulated debris, clear gutters and downspouts, examine flashing, fasteners and sealant around vents and penetrations, and remove any moss or leaf build‑up. Local heavy snow, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal rain and runoff can strain seams and fasteners, while gusty winds may loosen flashings in this area. With routine checks, a metal roof performs reliably for decades.
In Ravenna, ON, heavy winter snow loads and frequent freeze–thaw cycles put extra stress on roofs, so buyers tend to favour durable, low‑maintenance materials. A well‑installed metal roof can increase home value because buyers value longevity, reduced upkeep and improved curb appeal. Premium roofing materials signal quality and can make a property stand out, while a long lifespan improves buyer confidence at resale. Architectural style also matters in neighbourhoods — choose a profile that suits nearby homes. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles (slate, cedar shingle, mediterranean tile, shake and standing seam) available in heavy gauge aluminum and solid copper, giving you both performance for local snow/ice conditions and attractive, context‑appropriate aesthetics.
As a homeowner in Ravenna, ON, consider that lake‑effect snow and freeze–thaw cycles from nearby Lake Erie raise snow loads and ice‑dam risk. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are compatible with solar installation when fitted with custom solar brackets supplied by Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. Roof lifespan matters: durable roofing reduces the chance you’ll need to remove panels for roof replacement. When comparing materials, plan for future solar at re‑roofing time—choose long‑lasting, UV‑ and freeze‑resistant systems. Interlock’s metal systems are engineered to support solar mounting solutions and are often preferred in Ravenna for their longevity and resilience to snow and wind storms.

Calgary, AB Metal Roofing Review — 2008 Roof, Warranty Honoured & Same‑Day Repair

Review: May 13, 2026

Completion: May 30, 2008

After a relentless 12+ hour windstorm, our 18-year-old roof needed a repair. When I called to book it, that's when I learned the previous owner and my senior parents hadn't transferred the warranty when the house was bought 13 years ago. Despite that, the owners came out the very same day and honored it! The repair itself was simple — just two screws — but high up on the roof with a sloped ground below, making it tricky and time-consuming. First time in 18 years our roof has needed work, and their honesty, professionalism, and prompt service were incredible. Highly recommend this company!

This is the 3rd roof I've had installed by Interlock. I put one on my original house, my cottage, and now my new house. They have always done an excellent job, and the aluminum shingles are a great product — light, sturdy, and still looking good even years down the road.

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Review: April 23, 2026

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
