Sales Knowledge

★★★★☆ Agree
“I had pretty much decided on Interlock before the sales call (based on the Interlock website) but still had questions. Chris was able to answer additional questions I had and he also went through the changes Interlock has made to their product over the years, which I found reassuring since it indicated that they were continually trying to improve their product.”

Employees Professionalism

★★★★★ Strongly agree
“Jen Simons who coordinated everything was very responsive and helpful.”

Communication

★☆☆☆☆ Strongly disagree
“This is the one area in which I was disappointed. Only after the work began was I informed that there was a change in the scope of the work order. This change added more than $10,000 to the original quote (a more than 15% increase). The work crew arrived ready to do this additional work, so it was known before they began that additional work would be needed, but I only heard from Chris AFTER they began the work and didn't know the amount of the increase until a couple of days into the project. When did Interlock first know of this change? Such a large increase should have been been communicated as soon as possible. I wrote an email to Chris about this but he never responded. A representative did swing by to discuss the change order and I did fully understand the reasons and agree that the changes would result in a better performance of the roof. A new roof is a large expense, and I had carefully arranged my finances to cover the cost of the roof based on the original quote. This additional costs made things a little tricky for me.”

Installation Crew

★★★★★ Strongly agree
“The crew worked really hard (and late into the night a couple of times!!).”

Quality Of Materials

★★★★★ Strongly agree
“Fantastic roof.”

Quality Of Workmanship

Problem Resolution

★★★★☆ Agree
“A storm window was broken during the tear down. They took the frame and replaced the glass (got it back last week).”

Schedule

★★★☆☆ Neutral
“Had no real schedule. I ordered in December, with the hope that we could get some clear weather in Feb. or March. I had solar panels, so we had to co-ordinate with the solar crew to remove panels before Interlock arrived. Jen Simons called the solar people to give them a heads up and everything went smoothly.”

Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Westwood

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Westwood often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Westwood may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

How long will a metal roof last in Westwood, MA?

A metal roof in Westwood typically lasts at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles usually last 15–30 years depending on quality and maintenance. Westwood has a prolonged snowy season (roughly early November to mid‑April) and above‑average annual precipitation, so heavier snow loads, freeze–thaw cycles and winter wind events can accelerate wear on asphalt and roof flashings—metal sheds snow, resists moisture intrusion and tolerates freeze‑thaw far better than shingles. Homeowners often choose durable systems for longevity, lower maintenance, and better performance in snow, rain and windy Nor’easter conditions. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and include a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection.

How much does it cost to install a metal roof in Westwood, MA?

Metal roofs in Westwood typically cost more up front than asphalt shingles, but final price varies widely with roof size, pitch, complexity (hips, valleys), tear‑off, flashing, skylights, and labor. Westwood sees cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and Nor’easter-driven snow/ice, which raise the value of a durable, corrosion‑resistant metal roof; local annual precipitation and humidity also affect coatings and underlayment choices. Because metal roofs last longer and resist snow loads and freeze–thaw damage, many homeowners compare lifetime value (lower repair/replacement over decades) rather than initial cost. A durable system can reduce future repair and replacement expenses, offsetting higher installation cost over time. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long‑term ownership value and durability rather than competing as the lowest‑cost option.

Should I choose metal roofing or asphalt shingles for my Westwood home?

Metal Roofing lasts over 50 years. In Westwood, cold snowy winters, frequent freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation (high humidity) increase ice‑dam and moss/algae risk—factors that stress roofing materials. Lifespan: Metal typically outlasts asphalt (50+ years vs ~15–30 years for shingles). Maintenance: Metal needs less routine repair and resists moss and rot; asphalt requires more frequent inspection, cleaning, and shingle replacement. Durability: Metal resists snow loading, freeze–thaw damage and UV better; asphalt can lose granules, crack, and trap moisture. Long‑term value: Higher upfront cost for metal often pays off via fewer replacements and lower lifetime repair costs, but asphalt can be cost‑effective for lower initial budgets. Homeowners who prioritize durability and long‑term protection often choose metal. Interlock Metal Roofing systems appeal for lasting performance, superior water‑shedding and clean architectural curb appeal.

Are metal roofs noisy when it rains in Westwood?

No — that’s a common myth. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking with proper underlayment, insulation and an attic space don’t sound like barn roofs; they’re typically similar in sound to shingle or tile roofs. In Westwood, where moderate annual precipitation (~44 in.) and snowy winters with regular freeze–thaw cycles affect roof assemblies, a closed deck, sound-absorbing underlayment and attic insulation greatly reduce rain noise. Installation quality matters — exposed purlins, gaps, or thin underlayment increase noise. Properly installed residential metal roofs are typically no noisier than other materials. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are installed as complete residential roofing systems designed to address acoustic and weather performance.

How energy-efficient are metal roofs in Westwood?

Yes — a metal roof can be energy efficient in Westwood. Westwood has cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers, so roofs face significant freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal cooling/heating demands. Metal roofing reflects sunlight, lowering summer cooling loads, and its smooth surface sheds snow (reducing prolonged snow loads). However, overall performance depends on roof assembly: adequate insulation, proper attic ventilation, and vapor control determine winter heat loss and condensation risk. In this climate, homeowners compare materials for lower utility bills, year‑round comfort, and long‑term durability. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support those goals—reflectivity, durable panels, and compatibility with quality underlayment, insulation, and ventilation to help long‑term home performance.

How does metal roofing in Westwood, MA withstand wind, hail, and severe weather?

Q: How does metal roofing perform in severe weather in Westwood, MA? A: Westwood experiences cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and seasonal Nor’easters that bring heavy rain and strong winds—local stresses for any roof. Metal roofing can perform very well in wind, hail and heavy storms when the system is properly designed, installed, and made from durable, impact‑resistant materials. Performance hinges on roofing system design (panel profile, fasteners, underlayment), installation quality (flashing, fastening pattern, ventilation) and material durability (coatings, steel/aluminum grade). Homeowners weigh weather resilience to reduce leaks, ice‑dam damage, maintenance and long‑term costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, but final performance will depend on the specific product, workmanship and local roof details.

Will a metal roof rust or corrode in Westwood's wet climate?

FAQ: How corrosion‑resistant is metal roofing in Westwood, MA? Metal roofing performance depends on the metal used—steel, Galvalume, and aluminum differ in corrosion resistance. Some metals (stainless steel, aluminum) resist corrosion better than untreated steel. Westwood has cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles that stress coatings and joints. It also sees year‑round precipitation and relatively high humidity, raising corrosion risk. Aluminum performs particularly well in wet or coastal environments and resists rusting. For homeowners comparing options, prioritize corrosion‑resistant metals and durable coatings to reduce maintenance and prolong roof life. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.

How often should I inspect and maintain my metal roof in Westwood?

Q: How much maintenance does a metal roof need in Westwood, MA? A: Metal roofing is generally low‑maintenance and very durable, a strong choice for Westwood’s snowy winters, freeze–thaw cycles, and year‑round precipitation which can influence roof performance.Timeanddate climate data for Westwood and regional summaries show these conditions. No roof is maintenance‑free: inspect roofs seasonally and after storms. Clear debris and leaves, keep gutters free, check flashing and roof penetrations (vents, chimneys), and remove moss or buildup. Heavy snow/drifting, ice dams, or wind‑driven debris can change inspection frequency. Overall, metal roofs shed snow well and resist rot and moss, making them a durable, low‑maintenance option compared with shingles when sited and maintained properly.

How does curb appeal affect my home's resale value in Westwood?

Yes—metal roofing can raise home value in Westwood when matched to neighborhood style and local climate. Buyers here prize durable, low‑maintenance roofs because Westwood experiences a snowy season and frequent freeze–thaw cycles (Nov–Apr), which stress shingles and flashing. Combined with moderate annual precipitation across Massachusetts, a long‑lasting metal roof reduces future repair risk for buyers. Premium materials boost curb appeal and signal quality; long lifespans improve buyer confidence and resale value. Architectural style matters—choose profiles that fit the street. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer slate, cedar shingle, Mediterranean tile, shake, and standing‑seam profiles in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting you match aesthetics while gaining durability.

Can I install solar panels on my Interlock Metal Roofing System in Westwood?

Westwood’s cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw cycles and year‑round precipitation can stress roofing materials and attachment points for solar mounts; plan for ice/snow loading and corrosion risk. Interlock Metal Roofing Systems are solar‑compatible when fitted with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. Roof lifespan is critical—longer‑lasting materials reduce the chance you’ll need to remove panels for reroofing. When comparing roofs in Westwood, prioritize durable, corrosion‑resistant systems (like Interlock’s metal interlock) if you plan to add solar, since they’re designed to support solar mounting solutions and withstand local snow and freeze‑thaw stresses.
