Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Westwood, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |

What our customers are saying:
Yes. It just looks so good and you will never have to replace it. As mentioned above, communication, especially if there is a scope of work change, should be done as soon as possible. I really love my new roof. The cost was more than twice what I would have paid for a high-end "architectural" asphalt roof; but the longevity and look of the new roof is worth it. I know I will never have to think about my roof ever again. I have gotten many complements already from our neighbors, and many think it's a real slate roof (it looks that good).
Once they started the project they appeared to be overbooked. The scheduling was awful. The first day we hadfour men. After that, we only had two. There were days we were told they would come and then they wouldn't andthere were days we were told they weren't coming and they did. We kept being told they had people working in other states, or they had to work on other jobs. It was very difficult to decide on the color due to the small samples in the case. I ended up going to the office inWalpole and got an actual sample. I was able to easily make an informed decision. Had the salesman had thatsample the whole job would have gone much easier for everyone. Pictures and small samples in suitcasesaren't really reliable. Seeing the actual product made all the difference.
Placement of materials: On the contract sheet, it stated materials would be located on the driveway but I was told or led to understand by the salesman just prior to signing that they would be placed on a palate on my lawn to the right or left of my driveway. They were instead placed right in front of my garage doors so I had no ingress/egress through my garage for eleven days. One thing verbally intimated while another written down, and of course the written instruction prevailed. Should have been clearer about this, especially with a small driveway. Also I could have used a reminder to run an electrical cord out the window in the phone call I got the day before the first day of installation. I'm preoccupied (like everybody else) and that would have helped.
This would depend on if and when we find a resolution and/or compromise or even a response from Walpole, MA Interlock. We live on a street that is very busy and visible. Interlock could be more consistent with treatment of customers and communication of information. The contract was suppose to reflect several 'discounts' if we signed on the dotted line the day the salesman first visited, which we did. Upon requesting detailed breakdown of how the cost was determined, Interlock got all 'crazy' on us and very, very defensive. This is not how to build customer confidence or trust. We would like to take this opportunity to say we have requested arbitration over the balance Interlock claims we owe them. Due to the math errors made on the contract and subsequent explanation, which interlock admits, we do not feel this is an honest job estimate or billing process. We received very different answers to our questions depending on who we talk to at Interlock, Walpole on any given day, mostly the run-around.The square footage roofed was not 2000 square feet as stated by Dave to us over the phone. Simply put, he talks in circles.
The project itself was fine. The dumpster was placed infront of one of garage doors so we couldnt use the car for the duration of the project. That wasn's a major issue as we have another car just an inconvienence Very happy thus far, provided we have no issues with the snow staying on the roof, if it slides off as advertised, I'll be estatic.
The salesman was wonderful. It is just that the price was too high for me. I just didn't need something as fancy and expensive but meeting with the salesman was a great educational experience. If I decide to make my porch a walkout porch, I am likely to come back to Interlock Roofing.and I will let others know about the company. The only thing I did not like is the pressure tactic of offering a discount for deciding today.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Westwood
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Westwood, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Westwood.
Does a metal roof handle Westwood's snow and ice buildup?
Yes. Westwood averages about 75 cm of snow annually across roughly 84 freeze-thaw days, and Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow efficiently without trapping moisture. The non-porous aluminum surface won't absorb water that refreezes into ice dams. Snow guards are available if you prefer controlled shedding, and the panels' light weight (Slate profile at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means your home's structure carries no extra load even during heavy accumulation. The aluminum's thermal conductivity also helps prevent the roof-to-attic temperature differentials that create ice dams.
How does aluminum perform through freeze-thaw cycling?
Aluminum excels in freeze-thaw environments because it contains no iron and cannot rust, even as water cycles through freezing and thawing. Westwood experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days annually, a condition that degrades asphalt and wood shingles. Interlock's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy is ASTM B209 certified and has been installed since 1998 in coastal and cold climates worldwide. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, warranted 30 years against deterioration, seals both panel surfaces against moisture infiltration. After 25+ years in service across similar climates, the material and coating show no weakening.
With over 1200 mm of rain yearly in Westwood, how waterproof is a metal roof?
Westwood receives roughly 1194 mm of annual rainfall, and Interlock's interlocking design channels water downward and outward without pooling. The four-way interlocking panels overlap at every seam, eliminating the pathways that cause leaks in traditional shingles. Installation includes an ICC-ES ESR-1790 compliant underlayment and solid deck, creating a dual-barrier system. When installed to spec, the roof is warranted against leakage; the Guardian Warranty covers the material if water penetrates the panels themselves—a claim rarely filed in decades of service.
Is a metal roof safe in Westwood's wind gusts?
Westwood's typical gusts reach about 135 km/h, and Interlock roofs are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph (193 km/h). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors on all sides, so wind pressure across the roof is distributed, not concentrated at fasteners. This interlocking geometry, combined with proper fastening to the deck, has been tested in coastal and mountain regions where gusts regularly exceed 100 km/h. No loose panels, no uplift failures—the warranty backs wind resistance when installed to specification.
Why won't my aluminum metal roof rust?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron. When aluminum is exposed to air, it forms a transparent aluminum oxide layer that seals the surface and actually heals itself when scratched—a property iron-based steel does not possess. Westwood's 1194 mm annual rainfall and 75 cm snow melt mean your roof faces constant moisture, the primary driver of rust in steel roofs. Interlock's roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloys are engineered for this exposure. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating, applied to both sides, adds a second protective layer and is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading.
Can hail damage reduce my insurance costs?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating means the roof withstands repeated impacts that would puncture asphalt or damage wood. Many insurers offer discounts for Class 4-rated roofing because claim frequency drops dramatically. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ICC-ES ESR-1790 documentation; Interlock installations have qualified customers for premium reductions across multiple insurers.
Does a metal roof actually lower cooling costs in Massachusetts?
Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Westwood averages about 3062 sunshine hours annually, and Interlock's energy-efficiency-verified colors have thermal emissivity of 0.84 and initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny). This reflectance bounces incoming heat away rather than absorbing it like asphalt, reducing attic temperature during warm months. Cool Roof Rating Council ratings quantify the effect. The lighter weight means no structural cost for the energy upgrade, and the coating is warranted 30 years, so the reflectance benefit persists for decades without degradation.
Do I need to reinforce my home's framing for a metal roof?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Mediterranean Tile profile is about 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, and even the heaviest profile (Shake at 0.58 lb/sq ft) is a fraction of slate's weight. Westwood homes built to support asphalt shingles easily carry aluminum roofing. The light weight becomes an advantage: it installs directly over most existing roofs without tear-off costs or disposal fees, compresses the timeline, and reduces labor expense. Fewer fasteners per square are required because the panels' weight won't shift or settle over time.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over a typical asphalt roof?
Calculate the true cost of ownership over the roof's life. Asphalt shingles last 15-20 years and require tear-off, disposal, and reinstallation—repeating the cycle 2-3 times over 50 years. Interlock's lifetime limited warranty to the original owner, with transferability to the next owner for 50 years, eliminates replacement cycles. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years, so refinishing costs don't apply. Maintenance is minimal: occasional debris clearing and gutter cleaning, unlike asphalt's moss treatment and wood's staining. Current promotion: no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Over 50 years, a single installation typically costs less than three asphalt cycles.
Who installs Interlock roofs in Westwood, and how long have they served this area?
Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served this region since 1999—25+ years of local installation expertise in Norfolk County's climate. They understand Westwood's snow load, freeze-thaw patterns, and wind exposure, and they're familiar with local permitting and insurance requirements. The installer provides warranty administration and service access if questions arise post-installation. Installation timeline typically spans 3-5 business days for a residential roof, weather permitting, with work performed to ICC-ES ESR-1790 specification.
