Review: September 4, 2020 Completion: August 18, 2020

This is the roof I’ve been dreaming of since I started to see my old one fail. It looks so sleek and modern and it was a great experience from estimate to installation! N/a Metal roofing is more expensive than asphalt, that’s a known variable. But, I’ll never need to reroof my house again and the last roof only lasted 11-12 years. Jonathan convinced me, vs. another company that uses the same product or similar. It was two long days for the crew who stopped only once for a lunch break each day. The product looks great and offers so much peace of mind for me as a homeowner who has had to deal with ice dams and peeling shingles. I get happy just thinking about what’s now overhead.

Review: July 17, 2017 Completion: May 11, 2017

Give home owners a better option for small roofs than they did to us. Extremely disappointed. We are considering having this roof removed at this point and replaced with a roof that is not so horrible to look at and does nothing for the RESALE VALUE of our home. We also considered posting pictures of this roof on FACE BOOK on the Interlock website to warn other potential customers to beware of what can happen to them.

Review: November 13, 2004 Completion: November 12, 2004

After many years of having my roof repaired or replaced, I decided to call Interlock Industries, Inc. since I had miraculously just received an advertisement in my mail. After Paul Forrer came to my house in July and explained the procedure, etc, I was ready to hire the company. In October, the dumpster and shingles arrived. I was excited. Two men came at the end of October and have diligently worked almost everyday for two weeks. They are precise, neat, and knowledgeable. I am impressed with their work. I can not get over the change in the appearance of my house that their work has made. People slow down and gawk, others have stopped as they " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and have complimented me on it. Thank you for making my home my castle!!!

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Roslindale

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Roslindale, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Roslindale.

How does a metal roof handle Roslindale's snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice more effectively than asphalt because aluminum's smooth, hard surface resists ice bonding and allows snow to slide safely away with optional snow guards. Roslindale receives about 84 cm of snow annually across roughly 76 freeze-thaw days per year, where ice dams commonly form on traditional roofs; the metal panel's four-way interlocking seams and low-profile design prevent water infiltration even when ice persists at the eave. Snow load itself poses no structural risk since the heaviest profile—the Mediterranean Tile—weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft, about 96% lighter than real tile, so existing framing supports the weight without reinforcement.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Massachusetts damage an aluminum metal roof?

Aluminum's inherent physics makes it immune to freeze-thaw damage because it contains no iron and cannot rust or rot. Roslindale experiences roughly 76 freeze-thaw days per year, where moisture trapped in asphalt shingles and wood expands and contracts, causing cracking and curling; aluminum simply expands and contracts with temperature swings while maintaining structural integrity. The material's 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 specification) is specifically chosen for roofing because it withstands this cycling indefinitely, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating—warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—protects the surface across decades of seasonal stress.

Can an aluminum metal roof rust in a New England climate?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; instead, it forms a self-healing oxide layer that protects the metal beneath and repairs itself when scratched. While Roslindale's 1065 mm annual rainfall and coastal-influenced humidity create conditions that accelerate rust in steel roofing, aluminum thrives in this environment. Interlock applies Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating to both sides of every panel, an extra measure against salt-air corrosion that extends the 30-year finish warranty and ensures the roof resists the chloride-laden moisture common in the Northeast.

Can a metal roof survive New England wind gusts?

The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together so tightly that they function as a unified system, resisting wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification—and Roslindale's typical wind gusts reach about 130 km/h (81 mph), well within that safety margin. The ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1790 certifies the roof's structural performance under IBC/IRC wind standards, and the Guardian Warranty explicitly covers wind resistance to 120 mph, so you have manufacturer backing if a nor'easter or severe gust tests your roof. The interlocking design distributes lateral force across all panels rather than concentrating stress on fasteners alone.

What hail damage protection does a metal roof offer, and can it lower insurance?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian Warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches, which is extreme weather protection most homeowners never experience. Class 4 impact resistance often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts on comprehensive coverage, since the material dramatically reduces roof replacement claims from hail. Some insurers also recognize the 30-year coating warranty and the roof's non-combustible aluminum construction as risk factors that lower premiums, though discount amounts vary by provider; ask your agent about metal roof credits when you receive a quote.

Does a metal roof help with energy costs in New England?

energy-efficient color options on Interlock panels reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it like dark asphalt, which helps lower cooling loads during warmer months and reduces thermal stress on roofing materials. Roslindale receives about 3109 annual sunshine hours, and panels with initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity 0.84 are Cool Roof Rating Council rated, meaning they measurably cool the building envelope compared to conventional shingles. Lower roof temperatures also mean less expansion and contraction during the roughly 76 freeze-thaw days per year, so the metal experiences less mechanical stress and longer service life.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt shingles?

A metal roof is typically the last roof you install; asphalt shingles need replacement every 15–20 years, but Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life with non-prorated material coverage and remains transferable for 50 years from completion, so you buy once and never replace. Over 40 years, most homeowners spend significantly less on a metal roof than on two or three asphalt replacements, tear-off labor, and debris disposal. Current regional promotion offers no payments and no interest until Spring 2027 or 10% off installation, making the entry cost manageable while you recoup the investment through durability, minimal maintenance, and potential insurance discounts.

How much upkeep does a metal roof require compared to asphalt or wood shakes?

Metal roofing requires almost no routine maintenance; the sealed interlocking panels shed debris, resist algae and moss growth, and never need patching, resealing, or recoating like asphalt or wood. Asphalt shingles in Roslindale's damp 1065 mm rainfall environment become brittle and curl within 15 years; wood shakes rot from moisture and freeze-thaw stress over the same period. CALGreen verification documents Interlock's reduced-maintenance profile, and the only typical upkeep is clearing gutters and inspecting fasteners after severe wind (which Roslindale's 130 km/h gusts occasionally trigger). This means no annual roof inspections, no moss removal, and no partial repairs—genuine peace of mind over the roof's life.

Can a metal roof be installed over my existing asphalt roof?

Yes, the extraordinary lightness of Interlock panels—the Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft, the Mediterranean Tile at 0.59 lb/sq ft—allows installation directly over most existing asphalt roofs without structural reinforcement or costly tear-off and disposal. Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has served the region since 1999 and handles the assessment of your current roof's condition, installation timeline, and any prep work needed. Installing over existing shingles saves thousands in labor and landfill fees, shortens the project timeline, and the new metal roof's solid deck and underlayment make it as quiet as asphalt in rain, so you gain durability without disruption.

Are metal roofs recycled, or do they end up in landfills like asphalt shingles?

Interlock aluminum roofing is approximately 95% recyclable; at the end of its life—far beyond your ownership—the panels can be melted down and reformed into new products, breaking the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that has buried millions of tons of used shingles over the past 50 years. Recycled aluminum also requires far less energy to produce than new aluminum, so choosing metal over asphalt reduces your roof's embodied carbon footprint. Since the Guardian Warranty's 50-year transfer term means your roof may outlast two or three of your heirs' home tenures, the sustainability advantage compounds: one Interlock installation prevents landfill waste and resource consumption across generations.
