Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Greenlodge, Massachusetts
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |

What our customers are saying:
I would like to take the time to thank you for stopping by and showing my family and I what a great product the Interlocking shingles are. We really appreciate the time that you spent here (2hrs.) to go over every inch of your product. You answered every question my family and I had about going with the aluminum shingle vs the asphalt shingle. I also want to say that you were in our home for 2 hours and that you did not spend the whole time talking about your product and that you took the time to talk a bit about yourself and where you were from. It was also nice that you took an interest in knowing a little about my family and I and our backgrounds. That really meant a lot to me. It showed me that you are a classy guy, a great businessman and that you care about the customer. Interlock Industries is very lucky to have a Marketing Manager like you. I will recommend the Interlock roof to anyone that needs a roof! Thank You for a great Product! P.S. THE ROOF LOOKS GREAT!
We recently purchased a new roof for our 30 year old home. The original roof on our home was in poor shape and as I work with many contractors in town, I realized that a new asphalt roof would not last the 30 years that the original roof did. We were first introduced to Interlock Industries at the home show at Gillette Stadium. From there we were visited at home by a salesman, Michael Yaniv. He explained how the whole process worked and was very helpful in choosing our roof - the one we ended up with was my least favorite but it works wonderfully with our house and we are very pleased with the final look. The workman completed the work in less than a week - and that included working all day Easter Sunday! Their work ethic and consideration of us and our home is to be commended. They were always pleasant, they worked long days and at the end of each day the work site was completely clean. The took care to avoid damaging any of our shrubs and gardens. The finished roof looks gorgeous and we have already had many comments on our "beautiful new roof." I was also surprised at how quiet it is during rainstorms - and it was tested this past weekend! We highly recommend your company and roof to anyone interested. You can call us at (number removed) if you have any questions.
After many years of having my roof repaired or replaced, I decided to call Interlock Industries, Inc. since I had miraculously just received an advertisement in my mail. After Paul Forrer came to my house in July and explained the procedure, etc, I was ready to hire the company. In October, the dumpster and shingles arrived. I was excited. Two men came at the end of October and have diligently worked almost everyday for two weeks. They are precise, neat, and knowledgeable. I am impressed with their work. I can not get over the change in the appearance of my house that their work has made. People slow down and gawk, others have stopped as they " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and have complimented me on it. Thank you for making my home my castle!!!
I have been the owner of my home since 1979. Since then, I have been through water heaters, paint jobs and one roof. After the third water heater let loose, I decided there had to be better products out there. I now own a water heater that I can trust and my oil company will stand by. Two years ago, I saw two houses nearby with the Interlock roof. I said that is what I need for the same satisfaction that I got from the water heater. And I also got a roof that looks good and compliments the last paint job and shutters. I also have the guarantee to back up an excellent job that was done installing the roof. My next project is to find paint/siding that will give me a home with little maintenance and less worries.
Interlock metal roofing came within a few weeks after we had agreed to the new roof. They covered all the roofs with plywood. Then a layer of waterproof material. They were very neat picking up after themselves. They used a large magnet to get the nails. The finished job looks wonderful. I also liked that their office was in Walpole just the next town. The only complaint I have is that on the next to last day they worked in between a Thunder storm and pouring rain. I wished they had waited until the roof was dryer to install the metal shingles. Positive: Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Greenlodge
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Greenlodge, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Greenlodge.
How does a metal roof handle the snow and ice we get in Greenlodge?
Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels shed snow reliably because the smooth, slick surface prevents ice dams—the real problem in our 75 cm annual snowfall. Unlike asphalt, which softens under freeze-thaw cycling (we average 84 such days yearly), aluminum stays structurally sound through countless thaw-refreeze events. The interlocking seams form a unified system that moves with thermal expansion without cracking, so melting snow drains cleanly rather than pooling behind ice ridges. Optional snow guards let you control runoff safely if you prefer.
Will a metal roof crack or degrade from our freeze-thaw winters?
No—aluminum's chemistry actually improves under freeze-thaw stress. With approximately 84 freeze-thaw days annually in Greenlodge, roofing materials face constant expansion and contraction. Asphalt and wood become brittle; concrete and clay tiles develop microcracks that widen over time. Aluminum alloy (ASTM B209 grade 3105-H24) flexes elastically without permanent deformation, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating remains pliable across the full temperature range. After 26 years of operation here in New England, Interlock roofs show no coating failure or structural degradation tied to thermal cycling.
With 1200 mm of rain a year, how do you prevent leaks?
The four-way interlocking panel design creates overlapping channels that direct water downslope—no gaps for water to exploit, even during the 1,194 mm annual rainfall we receive. Installation requires a solid deck and ice-and-water shield underlayment, which is standard practice; combined with the interlocked seams, this creates a watertight system comparable to asphalt shingles but with flatter, faster water drainage. The Guardian Warranty explicitly covers leaks caused by material defect. Proper installation by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. ensures gutters handle our heavy precipitation without overflow.
Can a metal roof withstand the wind gusts we get here?
Yes—Interlock panels are warranted to resist sustained winds up to 120 mph, and Greenlodge's typical gusts peak around 135 km/h (84 mph). The four-way interlocking system locks each panel to its neighbors, distributing wind load across the entire roof plane rather than creating individual points of failure. That means even severe nor'easters won't lift panels or cause fastener pull-through. The ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirms compliance with IBC wind-load requirements for our region, so your roof stays secure year after year without the creep and fastener corrosion that affects asphalt over time.
Does metal roofing really resist hail, or is that marketing?
Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification available—with warranty coverage for hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter. That's backed by independent laboratory testing, not claims. Many homeowners find their insurers offer premium reductions for Class 4 metal roofs because the claim history is exceptional. The aluminum's strength comes from its alloy composition; combined with the double-sided Alunar 70% PVDF coating, it absorbs impact energy without cracking or losing weather protection. Over our 3,062 annual sunshine hours and occasional severe spring storms, a rated metal roof provides insurance security that asphalt and wood cannot match.
I hear aluminum doesn't rust—is that actually true?
Yes, it's true: aluminum contains no iron, so it cannot rust. When aluminum is exposed to air, a thin oxide layer forms naturally on the surface—and unlike iron oxide (rust), this layer is self-sealing. If the surface scratches, the oxide instantly reforms. The Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating on both sides of every Interlock panel adds 30 years of protection against salt, acid rain, and UV exposure. With 1,194 mm of annual rainfall here, that two-layer defense (aluminum + coating) means zero concern about corrosion, no maintenance painting, and no structural deterioration over the roof's lifetime.
Can my house handle a metal roof, or do I need new framing?
No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile weighs just 0.41 lb/sq ft—so light that a typical 2,000 sq ft roof adds only 820 pounds total. The Mediterranean Tile profile, which replaces heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs roughly 0.59 lb/sq ft but is about 96% lighter than the real thing it mimics. Most existing roofs in Greenlodge can support this additional load easily; even homes with older framing can upgrade without costly reinforcement. That means lower installation costs and the ability to install directly over your existing shingles if desired, eliminating tear-off debris and labor.
Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost compared to asphalt?
Yes—calculate the total cost over 50 years, not the first year alone. An asphalt roof lasts 15–20 years and requires tear-off, replacement, and landfill disposal—repeating that cycle 2–3 times over 50 years. Interlock's Guardian Warranty covers the original owner for life and transfers once to the next owner for 50 years total, with no prorated deductibles. You stop paying for roofing. The Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against fading and chalking (ASTM D4214), so color stability outlasts asphalt by decades. With our current offer—no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation—the math strongly favors aluminum over the long term.
How much upkeep does a metal roof actually need?
Metal requires far less maintenance than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles curl, crack, and shed granules within 15–20 years under our 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles. Wood shakes rot and split. Tile requires periodic regrouting and individual piece replacement. Interlock aluminum sheds debris naturally and resists algae growth; most homeowners simply rinse their roof during spring cleanup—no power-washing, no chemical treatments, no structural repairs. The CALGreen verification confirms reduced maintenance burden. With approximately 3,062 sunshine hours yearly, UV exposure is moderate, and the Alunar 70% PVDF coating resists fading far longer than any competitor material. Truly the last roof you buy.
Is metal roofing really more eco-friendly than standard shingles?
Yes—aluminum is approximately 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels remain in service 50+ years (often longer), so they avoid the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle entirely. A typical asphalt roof generates 2–5 tons of landfill waste per replacement; over 50 years in Greenlodge's freeze-thaw climate, that's multiple tear-offs. Interlock aluminum eliminates that burden and, at end-of-life, enters the metal recycling stream rather than a landfill. The published solar-reflectance listing with up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance also reduces cooling demand during our 3,062 annual sunshine hours. Choosing metal means one installation, no waste, and genuine environmental responsibility.
