I would like to take the time to thank you for stopping by and showing my family and I what a great product the Interlocking shingles are. We really appreciate the time that you spent here (2hrs.) to go over every inch of your product. You answered every question my family and I had about going with the aluminum shingle vs the asphalt shingle. I also want to say that you were in our home for 2 hours and that you did not spend the whole time talking about your product and that you took the time to talk a bit about yourself and where you were from. It was also nice that you took an interest in knowing a little about my family and I and our backgrounds. That really meant a lot to me. It showed me that you are a classy guy, a great businessman and that you care about the customer. Interlock Industries is very lucky to have a Marketing Manager like you. I will recommend the Interlock roof to anyone that needs a roof! Thank You for a great Product! P.S. THE ROOF LOOKS GREAT!

Review: April 13, 2005 Completion: March 29, 2005

We recently purchased a new roof for our 30 year old home. The original roof on our home was in poor shape and as I work with many contractors in town, I realized that a new asphalt roof would not last the 30 years that the original roof did. We were first introduced to Interlock Industries at the home show at Gillette Stadium. From there we were visited at home by a salesman, Michael Yaniv. He explained how the whole process worked and was very helpful in choosing our roof - the one we ended up with was my least favorite but it works wonderfully with our house and we are very pleased with the final look. The workman completed the work in less than a week - and that included working all day Easter Sunday! Their work ethic and consideration of us and our home is to be commended. They were always pleasant, they worked long days and at the end of each day the work site was completely clean. The took care to avoid damaging any of our shrubs and gardens. The finished roof looks gorgeous and we have already had many comments on our "beautiful new roof." I was also surprised at how quiet it is during rainstorms - and it was tested this past weekend! We highly recommend your company and roof to anyone interested. You can call us at (number removed) if you have any questions.

Review: November 13, 2004 Completion: November 12, 2004

After many years of having my roof repaired or replaced, I decided to call Interlock Industries, Inc. since I had miraculously just received an advertisement in my mail. After Paul Forrer came to my house in July and explained the procedure, etc, I was ready to hire the company. In October, the dumpster and shingles arrived. I was excited. Two men came at the end of October and have diligently worked almost everyday for two weeks. They are precise, neat, and knowledgeable. I am impressed with their work. I can not get over the change in the appearance of my house that their work has made. People slow down and gawk, others have stopped as they " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and have complimented me on it. Thank you for making my home my castle!!!

Review: May 12, 2007 Completion: March 24, 2007

I have been the owner of my home since 1979. Since then, I have been through water heaters, paint jobs and one roof. After the third water heater let loose, I decided there had to be better products out there. I now own a water heater that I can trust and my oil company will stand by. Two years ago, I saw two houses nearby with the Interlock roof. I said that is what I need for the same satisfaction that I got from the water heater. And I also got a roof that looks good and compliments the last paint job and shutters. I also have the guarantee to back up an excellent job that was done installing the roof. My next project is to find paint/siding that will give me a home with little maintenance and less worries.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Islington

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Islington, Massachusetts. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Islington.

How does a metal roof handle Islington's heavy snow and ice buildup?

Interlock metal roofing sheds snow and ice effectively because its smooth, interlocking aluminum surface resists adhesion far better than asphalt shingles do. Islington averages about 75 cm of snow annually across roughly 84 freeze-thaw cycles per year—conditions that crack and curl asphalt but leave aluminum unaffected. The lightweight panels (Cedar Shingle at 0.41 lb/sq ft) mean no structural reinforcement is needed, even after heavy accumulation. Snow guards are available if you want to manage roof-to-ground snow release, giving you control while the metal itself remains undamaged by the freeze-thaw stress that degrades traditional materials.

Will freeze-thaw cycles in Massachusetts damage an aluminum metal roof?

Aluminum's molecular structure makes it immune to the damage freeze-thaw cycles cause to asphalt, wood, and concrete. Islington experiences about 84 freeze-thaw days per year, with temperatures cycling above and below freezing repeatedly—yet aluminum doesn't absorb water, so it cannot expand, contract unevenly, or crack. The roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) is specifically engineered for coastal and cold climates. Its oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and it's coated with Alunar 70% PVDF on both sides, warranted 30 years against degradation. After 84 annual freeze-thaw cycles, your roof remains as structurally sound as the day it was installed.

Can Islington's winter wind gusts damage a metal roof?

No—Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph, well beyond the typical gust speeds in Islington (which average around 135 km/h or 84 mph, with occasional stronger peaks). The interlocking design transfers wind load across multiple panels rather than stressing individual fasteners, and the lightweight aluminum (Shake profile at 0.58 lb/sq ft) means wind has less mass to catch. This engineering also allows the roof to install directly over most existing roofs without structural reinforcement, even in exposed coastal areas from Nova Scotia to salt-air environments where Interlock has been installed since 1998.

With 1,200 mm of annual rain, will an Islington metal roof leak?

Islington receives roughly 1,194 mm of rain annually, and metal roofing handles that volume with superior protection when properly installed. Interlock's four-way interlocking seams create a water-shedding surface that channels rainfall downward, never allowing standing water. The panels install over a solid deck with underlayment—the same base detail that makes asphalt roofs leak-proof—so rain protection depends on installation quality, not material. When installed to spec per ESR-1790 (ICC-ES, reissued 2025), the interlocked panels, fastening pattern, and flashing details create a watertight assembly. Many homeowners worried metal roofs will leak are surprised to learn the real risk is poor installation anywhere, and Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. has managed that since 1999.

Does hail damage affect metal roofing insurance in Massachusetts?

Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. This durability often translates into insurance savings; some carriers reduce premiums for non-combustible Class A roofs that resist impact damage better than asphalt. While Islington's hail risk is moderate compared to western regions, the Class 4 rating means you're protected against the severe convective storms that do occur in New England. Speak with your insurance agent about potential discounts when you upgrade; the combination of impact resistance, non-combustibility, and a transferable 50-year warranty term appeals to underwriters.

Why doesn't aluminum rust like steel metal roofing?

Aluminum contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and rusts. When aluminum is exposed to air, an invisible oxide layer forms instantly and seals the surface, protecting the metal beneath. If that layer is scratched (by a ladder, branch, or falling debris), it self-heals in hours. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 / 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) coated with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon on both sides, warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—extra protection meaningful in salt-air climates but also valuable in Islington's 1,194 mm annual rainfall and high moisture. Steel roofing requires constant maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum requires none. This rustproof nature is why Interlock has been installed since 1998 from coastal homes to Antarctic research stations.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt?

Interlock metal roofing is CALGreen-verified for reduced maintenance and requires far less than asphalt, wood, or tile. Asphalt shingles curl, split, and degrade over 15–20 years in climates like Islington (with 75 cm snow and 84 freeze-thaw cycles annually), demanding replacement. Metal roofing needs only occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal—no re-sealing, re-coating, or replaces. The aluminum cannot rot, rust, or crack; the Alunar coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. While asphalt requires professional inspections and spot repairs every few years, Interlock's transferable lifetime limited warranty (50 years for the next owner) and durable materials mean you spend your time and money elsewhere, not on roof maintenance.

Can my Islington home's structure handle a metal roof, or do I need reinforcement?

No structural reinforcement is needed for Interlock metal roofing. The Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft, Cedar Shingle at 0.41, Shake at 0.58, and Mediterranean Tile at 0.59—all extraordinarily light. For comparison, concrete or clay tile weighs about 15 lb/sq ft, so Interlock's Tile profile is roughly 96% lighter. This weight advantage means the roof installs directly over most existing structures and often over your current asphalt shingles, saving the expense of tear-off and new framing. In Islington, where about 75 cm of snow accumulates annually, a lightweight roof actually simplifies load management across your home. The Guardian warranty and ICC-ES evaluation (ESR-1790) confirm the engineering; your home's existing framing can support a metal roof.

Is a metal roof worth the upfront cost over the life of my home?

Yes—metal roofing is the last roof you buy. Asphalt shingles last 15–20 years and require replacement twice in a 40-year period; Interlock's Guardian warranty is lifetime limited for the original owner and 50 years for the next, meaning you'll never replace it and the next owner inherits a half-century of protection. Over a 40-year span, asphalt's tear-off, disposal, and re-installation costs add tens of thousands; metal has none of those cycles. Maintenance is minimal (no re-sealing, no repairs). Energy-efficient energy-efficiency colors reduce cooling costs year-round. Current financing offers include no payments and no interest until Spring 2027, or 10% off installation. Calculate the total cost of two or three asphalt replacements against one metal roof that outlasts your ownership—metal wins decisively.

Is Interlock metal roofing environmentally responsible?

Yes—approximately 95% of Interlock aluminum is recyclable, ending the asphalt tear-off-to-landfill cycle that repeats every 15–20 years. Asphalt shingles are petroleum-based and difficult to recycle; millions of tons go to landfills annually. Metal roofing installs over existing roofs, eliminating tear-off waste. At the end of its extraordinary lifespan, aluminum is infinitely recyclable without degradation, so your roof becomes raw material for new products indefinitely. Islington receives about 3,062 sunshine hours per year, and energy-efficient Interlock colors with up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 emissivity reflect heat that asphalt absorbs, reducing cooling loads and carbon emissions. Choosing metal roofing aligns with both environmental responsibility and long-term home energy stewardship.
