Top 10 Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Epping

Homeowners researching metal roofing in Epping often have several important questions before replacing their roof. Many people want to understand how metal roofing compares to traditional materials like asphalt shingles in terms of lifespan, durability, cost, and long-term value. Roofing decisions can also be influenced by local weather conditions. Homes in Epping may experience environmental factors such as rain, wind, snow, heat, fire, or seasonal storms that can impact roof performance over time. The following frequently asked questions help explain what homeowners should know when evaluating metal roofing and why many people choose durable roofing systems designed for long-term protection.

Metal roofs in Epping commonly last at least 50–75+ years, while asphalt shingles usually last much less (often 15–30 years depending on quality). Epping experiences cold, snowy winters with regular freeze–thaw cycles and moderate year‑round precipitation—conditions that accelerate asphalt aging but that metal handles well because it sheds snow and resists moisture damage. Homeowners pick more durable systems here to reduce reroofing frequency and withstand snow loads, freeze‑thaw stress, rain and occasional wind/hail. Heavy‑gauge metal panels minimize thermal cycling issues and resist rot or moss that can affect shingles. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use heavy‑gauge aluminum and come with a lifetime limited 50‑year transferable warranty designed for long‑term protection in Epping’s climate.
Metal roofs in Epping typically cost more upfront than asphalt shingles, but total cost depends on roof size, pitch, complexity (hips, valleys), tear-off, flashing, skylights, and local labor rates. Epping sees significant winter snow and repeated freeze–thaw cycles—plus about 46 in. annual precipitation and ~57 in. average snowfall—so durable materials and stronger attachments matter for long-term performance. Those local factors can raise initial installation standards (and cost) but also make metal’s longevity and resistance to ice, snow, and water intrusion a better lifetime value for many homeowners. Durable systems often lower future repair and replacement expenses, so many compare options by lifecycle cost rather than initial price. Interlock Metal Roofing emphasizes long-term ownership value and performance rather than competing solely as the lowest-cost roofing option.
Metal roofing vs asphalt shingles in Epping, NH: Metal roofing lasts over 50 years, while asphalt typically lasts about 20–30 years. Maintenance: metal needs occasional inspections and fastener checks; asphalt requires more frequent repairs, flashing replacement, and is prone to granule loss. Durability: metal sheds heavy snow, resists wind and ice-dam damage better; asphalt can deteriorate faster under repeated freeze–thaw cycles and heavy winter loads. Long-term value: metal’s higher upfront cost is often offset by much longer service life and lower lifetime repair/replacement costs. Epping experiences cold, snowy winters with frequent freeze–thaw events and seasonal heavy precipitation—conditions that favor long-lived, low‑maintenance roofs for homeowners prioritizing durability and protection. Interlock Metal Roofing appeals to owners seeking 50+ year performance, strong snow and wind resistance, and refined architectural curb appeal.
Common myth: metal roofs are noisy in rain. Modern residential metal roofs installed over solid decking don’t sound like barn roofs. Epping sees about 46 in. of annual precipitation and roughly 50–60 in. of snow, plus frequent freeze–thaw cycles—snow cover often muffles rain noise, while freeze/thaw and moisture affect long‑term roof performance. Insulation, attic volume, and the full roof assembly determine how much sound you hear, and installation quality matters. Properly installed residential metal roofs typically sound similar to asphalt or composite roofs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are supplied and installed as complete residential roofing systems designed for homes.
Yes — a metal roof can be energy efficient in Epping. Metal panels reflect sunlight and reduce summer heat gain, cutting cooling loads, but true performance depends on the complete roof assembly—underlayment, insulation R‑value, and attic ventilation—which control heat flow more than the surface alone. Epping’s cold, snowy winters and frequent freeze–thaw cycles mean metal’s snow‑shedding and durability help performance, yet poorly insulated or ventilated assemblies can still drive high heating use. Homeowners compare materials for energy savings because lower heating bills, moisture control, and lifecycle cost matter. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are designed to support long‑term home performance when paired with proper insulation and ventilation.
Epping sees cold, snowy winters with regular heavy snowfall and freeze–thaw cycles, plus occasional Nor’easters and gusty storms that raise wind and snow-load concerns for roofs. Metal roofing performs well in wind, hail and heavy weather when the system is engineered for local loads: properly rated panels, secure fastenings, good underlayment and snow/ice control reduce ice dams and uplift. Performance depends on system design, installer quality and material durability—thicker gauges, impact-resistant coatings and tested wind ratings matter. Homeowners in Epping pick weather-resilient materials to limit leaks, ice-damage and replacement costs. Interlock Metal Roofing systems are engineered for durability, hail protection and wind resistance, and—when specified and installed for local snow loads and freeze–thaw conditions—are a strong choice compared with conventional shingle options.
FAQ: Corrosion and rust resistance in metal roofing for Epping, NH Metal roofing performance depends on the type of metal—some (like galvanized steel) are more prone to corrosion over time, while others (notably aluminum) resist rust. Epping averages about 46 in of annual precipitation and roughly 57 in of snow, producing wet, humid conditions and frequent freeze–thaw cycles that accelerate coating wear and corrosion. Homeowners should weigh corrosion resistance when choosing roofs because long-term durability, maintenance needs, and protection against leaks depend on it. Aluminum performs especially well in wet or coastal environments due to its natural oxide layer. Interlock Metal Roofing systems use aluminum construction designed for strong corrosion resistance and are protected further by the Alunar Coating System for extra protection.
Metal roofing is generally low‑maintenance and durable for Epping, NH, where cold, snowy winters with significant snowfall and frequent freeze–thaw cycles plus roughly 46 inches of annual precipitation can challenge roofs. No roof is completely maintenance‑free: inspect periodically (after storms and in spring) and check for debris, cleared gutters, secure flashing, and sealed penetrations. Seasonal snow, ice dams and spring leaf debris can block drainage or loosen fasteners; metal sheds snow well but still needs occasional clearing and gutter care. Compared to asphalt shingles, metal resists moisture, UV and freeze–thaw damage better, making it a durable, low‑maintenance choice for Epping homeowners considering roofing options.
Can metal roofing increase my home’s value in Epping, NH? Yes. In Epping’s cold, snowy winters and notable freeze–thaw cycles that stress roofs, buyers tend to value durable, low‑maintenance roofing that resists snow loads and ice dams. Premium materials boost curb appeal, and a long metal roof lifespan improves buyer confidence versus shorter‑life shingles. Architectural style matters locally—choose a profile that fits the neighborhood. Interlock Metal Roofing systems offer multiple architectural profiles (slate, cedar shingle, mediterranean tile, shake, and standing seam) available in heavy‑gauge aluminum and solid copper, letting you combine performance with the look buyers expect.
Yes — Interlock Metal Roofing systems can accept solar panels in Epping, NH when paired with custom solar brackets installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (New England) Inc. Epping’s cold, snowy winters and frequent freeze–thaw cycles increase snow loads and thermal cycling, so choose long‑lasting materials that minimize penetrations and thermal movement to protect both roof and arrays. Roof lifespan matters — install panels on a mature, durable roof to avoid removing panels for replacement. If you plan solar, specify solar‑ready details when replacing your roof. Interlock systems are solar‑compatible and engineered to support mounting solutions, making them a strong choice versus shorter‑lived materials.

Calgary, AB Metal Roofing Review — 2008 Roof, Warranty Honoured & Same‑Day Repair

Review: May 13, 2026

Completion: May 30, 2008

After a relentless 12+ hour windstorm, our 18-year-old roof needed a repair. When I called to book it, that's when I learned the previous owner and my senior parents hadn't transferred the warranty when the house was bought 13 years ago. Despite that, the owners came out the very same day and honored it! The repair itself was simple — just two screws — but high up on the roof with a sloped ground below, making it tricky and time-consuming. First time in 18 years our roof has needed work, and their honesty, professionalism, and prompt service were incredible. Highly recommend this company!

I’ve had my interlock roof for 14 yrs and have had no issues with it until this last winter. We had heavier than normal snow and a lot of freeze thaw conditions. Several of the snow deflectors were pushed forward and lifted some of the roof. I emailed Dave and Tyler and repairs were made quickly . You can’t tell there was any concerns at all.

Metal Shingle Roof Review in Sudbury, ON (Interlock - Installed 2017)

Review: April 25, 2026

Completion: June 7, 2018

We had our roof replaced in 2017 with an aluminum roof by Interlock Metal Roofing. We live on the lake, and prior to the replacement, we were spending thousands of dollars every year because shingles would fly off in the wind.

We haven’t had any issues in the past 7 years. Our experience with Interlock Metal Roofing was excellent — they were very professional and did a beautiful job, even though our roof is quite high and challenging.

Our roof still looks beautiful, and we haven’t had to worry about it at all in the past 9 years.

I love my Interlock roof! No more climbing up to clean it, and no more gritty debris falling into my garden after a few years. It looks fantastic and performs exactly as it should.

The installers were excellent—knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and personable. Ivan is a gem! He handled a small flashing addition efficiently and cleaned the entire roof with a blower in no time.

After almost ten years, it’s still the only roof I would choose.

Interlock Metal Roof Review - Ramara, ON (Installed 2019)

Completion: April 23, 2026

We are so happy with our interlock roof from Bruce. We had shopped around because we live on the lake with strong winds and we wanted a quality, long lasting product. Our roof has never changed colour and looks just as good now as the day it was installed. We also love the lifetime transferable warranty. We also love that it is made in Canada so there are no tariffs. Bruce was our sales person. He came right away, explained everything to us. We made the right decision not choosing shingles because of the environment and quality of the product. This was an affordable investment that was worth it. The crew was professional in every aspect. If I move, I will definitely be contacting Bruce again for another interlock roof.

Portland, OR Metal Shingles Review — Safety Anchors Installed 2019

Review: April 20, 2026

Completion: June 20, 2019

We’ve had our roof for about 7 years and have been very pleased with it. Recently, I scheduled gutter cleaning which was complicated by a run of wet weather which makes the roof very slippery. The gutter contractor asked if we had ever considered installing safety anchors. I didn’t know there was such a thing. I called Interlock and Ivan came by to take a look. He quickly determined appropriate locations for the anchors that the gutter cleaners could clip their safety harnesses to and showed me an example of the anchor itself. He also offered to paint them black to make them more inconspicuous on our dark roof. He returned about a week later for the install and afterwards showed us pictures of the anchors from the roof and pointed them out from the ground. Overall very professional, prompt, excellent service.

Interlock Metal Shingle Roof Review in Bay View, WI (Installed 2009)

Review: April 16, 2026

Completion: February 20, 2009

I had Interlock put on a beautiful red slate roof 17 years ago.The roof still looks beautiful. 5 years ago, I had them also re-roof my garage with the same type of slate. The roofs look gorgeous and I have no maintenance whatsoever.I get complements all the time. The guy whom I contracted with was named "Tim' but has since died. He was a really nice guy. Back in 2009, the roof was much cheaper. ( I actually paid more for the garage 5 years ago!) I am extremely happy with the roofs. The guys did a wonderful job, replacing rotted boards where necessary. They also told me about very cheap gutters I could buy at Menards instead of those ridiculously - priced "special" gutter systems. I bought them and they placed them on my buildings. This home will go to my daughter one day; I do not want her to have to lift a finger. Note that I had an asphalt roof previously. It lasted only 12 years. The shingles curled up under the sun and cracked. They looked terrible. I can honestly say that these metals roofs by Interlock are very much worth what you pay for them. They will last a lifetime with almost no maintenance. Instead of replacing a roof every 15 years and paying lots for asphalt or fiberglass, their metal roofs last very long and you will never have to re- roof again.

Interlock Metal Roofing Review in Saint Paul, AB — 50-Year Warranty (Installed 2025)

Review: April 15, 2026

Completion: August 31, 2025

We recently installed a new Interlock Roofing System, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. Knowing it’s backed by a limited lifetime, non-prorated, fully transferable 50-year warranty gives us real peace of mind—it truly feels like a smart long-term investment. Mr. Yorman and his crew were outstanding from start to finish. Their commitment to customer service is second to none. They showed up exactly when they said they would and worked diligently until the job was completed. The finished product looks fantastic, and the cleanup was so thorough that our property actually looked better than before they arrived. A special mention to Tyler, who did an excellent job walking us through the benefits and helping us feel confident in choosing this system. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!

We installed an Interlock roof in 2017. The roof is still like new. Due to an insulation issue and snow depth of over 4 feet, we had an ice build up problem. Ken, Greg and Cheri provided consultation and prompt service in addressing the addition of snow guards. Their knowledgable and friendly service was greatly appreciated. We highly recommend both the product and the team.

I recently had my 25 year old asphalt roof replaced with an Interlock Metal roof. I'm so very happy with my decision. In fact, best decision ever to have Interlock Industries install. The metal roof is manufactured in Delta, BC and they have their own installers. It's not panels! It looks very much like a cedar roof! Colour is awesome as well! My home is located in Victoria on Vancouver Island and looks great with my new roof! Interlock is a very professional business from contract signing to installation. Amazing crew that gets the job done in a timely manner. My roof looks fabulous. It's a work of art!!

Aurora, ON Metal Roofing Review — Interlock Installation (2016)

Review: April 13, 2026

Completion: May 3, 2016

We moved into our new house in 1984. Our new house came with new 25 year shingles. In 2004, 20 years later we noticed that our roof shingles needed to be redone. Now, back in 1984 they used asbestos in the roof shingles and although at the time they said they were 25 year shingles, we were still happy to get 20 years out of them. So, in 2004 we got a quote and had the roof re-shingled. We paid extra for the 25 year shingles as we had such a good result with the original shingles. In 2016 (i.e. 12 years later) my neighbour told us that our shingles on the south side of the house were cracked with rolled up edges and needed to be replaced. (We can't see the south roof of our house unless we are visiting the neighbours.) The shingles on the north side were still ok, but since you can't really shingle half a roof we knew that we had to have the whole roof done...after just 12 years. We were a little upset about this and decided to go to the National Home Show in Toronto to look at alternatives. We met Tom Watson at the Interlock Metal Roofing booth and he took a lot of time and explained the complete roofing system to us. We liked what we saw and what was explained to us and we arranged to have a home visit from Interlock and to give us a quote. The metal roof was certainly a lot more expensive than a regular asphalt shingle roof, but we decided to get the metal roof anyways because we did not want the hassle of having to re-shingle every 10 or 11 years...and there are also some other unforeseen benefits detailed below that we did not know about at the time. The metal roof comes with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, 50 year transferable, not prorated so even though more expensive it adds value to lyour home because if in the future you are looking to sell, the buyer knows he won't have any roof problems for the 50 year life of the roof. Your roof becomes an asset instead of a liability. The installation happened over 4-5 days. I paid a lot of attention to what they were doing and how they were doing it. The roof vents were removed. These are the same roof vents that raccoons like to rip off for access to your attic, so that potential problem went away. A ridge vent (google it) was installed on the top of the roof and it is low profile and fits in so you would not know that it is there. Raccoons have been known to chew a hole in asphalt shingles and roofing plywood to get into your attic. With a metal roof, it isn't happening. That mode of access is eliminated. Now, with our previous asphalt shingles we had constant problems with raccoons pooping on our roof (sound familiar?) and for some reason, at least for the last 10 years that we have had the metal roof, that has not happened. I don't know why, but I can speculate that the raccoons find the metal roof very slippery and they are not comfortable being up there and doing their business while trying not to slide off the roof. Also, in the past we have had squirrels occasionally make their way through, under, beside our asphalt shingles and get into our attic. That will never happen with a metal roof because the whole roof is sealed and northing is getting that way. If you are concerned about high winds ripping off your shingles you don't have to worry with a metal roof. Each and every metal shingle is fastened to the roof with aluminum screws (note the metal roof shingles are painted and baked to a tough finish) and they are interlocked with each other, so you may lose your entire roof in a hurricane, but the metal shingles will still be attached to it. We moved into our new house in 1984. After about 2 years of sweating through humid summers, we installed an A/C system. Our new A/C system worked ok in that it removed the humidity and cooled the house, but with the high 37 deg C temperatures it was struggling. The A/C would run continuously and never stopped on those hot days, but once the metal roof was installed it cycled on and off as designed. We highly recommend Interlock Metal Roofing.

We had our roofed replaced by Interlock Roofing in 2016. One of the best decisions we’ve ever made! Our roof looks like slate shingles but is entirely metal. We e received many compliments on it over the years Recently we had a lot of strong wind and hailstorms and our representative, John Mondeshean, checked in with us to see if we sustained any roof damage. He came out and inspected our roof for us within a day or two. Luckily we didn’t have any damage. I’ve been impressed by this company and their product from day one. John is the consummate professional. Our roof is now 10 years old and I still say it was the best investment! Highly recommend!
