Had we to start over, looking for a new roof again, we would go with a high quality composite material. This was way more expensive and we won’t live long enough to make the investment worthwhile. Yes, it will increase the resale value, but I doubt it will be enough to offset the cost differential. Also, now there is no way for me to walk on this extremely steep and slippery metal roof. Cleaning the gutters on the dormers is too dangerous and I have been unable to find anyone willing to climb on a metal roof. My internet communication antenna is at the highest point of the roof and should it ever require service I am concerned of my service provider’s ability to access it. And yes, it has to be at the highest point to “see” the transceiver at the service provider’s end. The positive aspects are its appearance, fire resistance, and long life.

“I have no doubt the aluminum shingles will last a long time. As they are so light weight, they can be installed over the existing composite roof. Our roof now has four layers of material: tar paper and composite shingles of the existing roof, and the newly added waterproof underlayment and aluminum shingles. It should be very water tight.”
